Illusion/Radiation Build

Here is my idea for an illusion/radiation build. Before you judge keep in mind I have very little experience with controllers. This is designed to be a flexable build that you can solo with or team with. I was stuck on a couple parts so if the slotting doesnt look right tell me. Also for the slotting I got alot of it from Dr Strange's guide. And if you didnt get the hint I'm planning on actually using this build so please tell me anything that needs to be changed.

RE: Illusion/Radiation Build

Hey, I made one of these toons yesterday and got him up to level 9 already just by hunting, mostly solo. He's more of a 'Scraptroller'. I have to say he's pretty good so far. In PP, I drop Radiation Infection on the highest mob in the group, jump right in and start working my way around the minions: Blind + Spectral Wounds + Air Superiority = Minion down. Rinse, repeat.

If I were to comment on your build with my limited experience so far, I would say maybe slot Blind with 2 ACC instead of 1, and don't wait so long to slot Radiation Infection. RI's accuracy debuff is too great not to use to its max capacity!

Also, you might want to consider Air Superiority instead of Hover. It is a very nice attack that you can add to your attack chain and take advantage of your Containment power. It recharges fast, does decent damage (especially with Containment) and has the benefit of knocking your target down.

01) --> Spectral Wounds
  * Damage(1)
  * Damage(3)
  * Damage(3)
  * Accuracy(11)
  * Accuracy(11)

You definitely want to 6-slot Spectral Wounds.  This will be your personal primary damage power.  I'd probably throw a Recharge Reduction in the sixth slot.

01) --> Radiant Aura
  * Healing(1)
  * Healing(15)
  * Healing(15)
  * Recharge Reduction(50)
  * Recharge Reduction(50)
  * Recharge Reduction(50)

I'd remove a Recharge Reduction and add another Healing.  Plus, you don't want to wait until 50 to reduce the recharge on your only heal.  You'll be surprised  how often people will need a little boost during battles.

02) --> Blind
  * Damage(2)
  * Damage(5)
  * Damage(5)
  * Accuracy(7)
  * Hold Duration(13)

Coupled with Spectral Wounds, Blind is your one-two punch for double damage while held.  Once you've dropped PA, Phantasm, and any other AoE powers, these two will allow you to focus on single targets.  I recommend adding a sixth slot, removing a Damage enhancement, and adding additional Hold and Accuracy enhancements.

04) --> Deceive
  * Confusion Duration(4)
  * Confusion Duration(7)
  * Accuracy(13)

While Deceive is incredibly useful for a lower level Illusion Controller, it becomes obsolete in the mid to high levels.  You should probably drop it when you get your first respec.  You won't need to Deceive anything once you have PA and Phantasm.

06) --> Accelerate Metabolism
  * Recharge Reduction(6)
  * Recharge Reduction(25)
  * Recharge Reduction(25)
  * Endurance Modification(27)
  * Endurance Modification(27)
  * Endurance Modification(31)

Don't buy into the ED hype on this one.  You'll notice a definite change in recharge if you slot 5 Recharge Reductions instead of 3.  You'll want this power to be as close to perma as possible because it's probably the best buff in the game.  It increases everything that's useful in battle - speed, damage, recharge, and endurance recovery.

08) --> Flash
  * Accuracy(8)
  * Accuracy(9)
  * Hold Duration(9)
  * Hold Duration(17)
  * Recharge Reduction(17)
  * Recharge Reduction(31)

I don't have this on my main, but I've thought about respecing for it on more than one occasion.  It seems like a great power to pick up.

10) --> Radiation Infection
  * To Hit DeBuff(10)
  * To Hit DeBuff(34)
  * To Hit DeBuff(37)
  * Defense DeBuff(40)
  * Defense DeBuff(42)
  * Defense DeBuff(42)

12) --> Hover
  * Defense Buff(12)
  * Defense Buff(46)
  * Defense Buff(48)

I understand that Fly is probably your favorite travel power, but I recommend that you take Super Speed instead.  My reasoning is simple - Hasten.  You're going to want it, so you might as well pick it up early and open up your travel pool at the same time.  My main has Fly now, but I only respec'd for it because I wanted to finish up the TFs in Firebase Zulu.  Super Speed is great everywhere but there.

14) --> Fly
  * Flight Speed(14)
  * Flight Speed(36)
  * Flight Speed(36)

16) --> Swift
  * Run Speed(16)

If you take my advice and go with Super Speed, then you won't need Swift.  However, Hurdle is an excellent complement to SS, and you'll still be opening up the Fitness Pool.

18) --> Phantom Army
  * Damage(18)
  * Damage(19)
  * Damage(19)
  * Recharge Reduction(21)
  * Recharge Reduction(21)
  * Recharge Reduction(31)

I recommend removing 1 Damage and 1 Recharge Reduction, then add 2 Accuracy enhancements.  Accelerate Metabolism and Hasten will bring PA back pretty quick, so you shouldn't need to worry about recharge.  Of course, you can always feel it out.

20) --> Health
  * Healing(20)
  * Healing(37)
  * Healing(37)

I always 6-slot Health.  It never hurts to get your hitpoints back faster.

22) --> Stamina
  * Endurance Modification(22)
  * Endurance Modification(23)
  * Endurance Modification(23)

Same as Health.  You can always use more endurance.

24) --> Enervating Field
  * End Reduction(24)

I don't know why, but, for some reason, a lot of players think that Radiation Infection is better than Enervating Field.  When you're talking about endurance drain, you're correct.  When you're talking about use, you're absolutely wrong.  Enervating Field decreases the amount of damage caused by a villain, and it increases the amount of damage taken.  You can drop a boss, an elite, or an AV in half the time if you have EF running.  5 or 6-slot it with Endurance Reductions.

26) --> Spectral Terror
  * Fear Duration(26)
  * Fear Duration(29)
  * Accuracy(29)

It's amazing how useful this power can be in the higher levels.  I recommend adding at least 1 Recharge Reduction.  Always remember that you don't cause double damage to enemies that are feared.

28) --> Mutation
  * Recharge Reduction(28)

Mutation is just like Resurrect.  You want to have it up as quickly as possible.  I recommend 5 or 6-slotting it with Recharge Reductions.

30) --> Superior Invisibility

I'm sure that many Illusion types will disagree with this, but I don't feel that Superior Invisibility is a necessary power.  Why?  Simple - Group Invisibility grants the same buff with increased benefits.  If you slot GI correctly, you won't have any down time between activations.  Plus, you won't be wasting 2 power slots on powers that are incredibly similar.

32) --> Phantasm
  * Damage(32)
  * Damage(33)
  * Damage(33)
  * Accuracy(33)
  * Accuracy(34)
  * Accuracy(34)

35) --> Group Invisibility
  * Defense Buff(35)
  * Recharge Reduction(36)
  * Defense Buff(46)
  * Defense Buff(46)

Concentrate more on Recharge than Defense.  The power is useful because it allows you to stealth through missions.  It isn't really going to keep you alive because of its defense boost.

38) --> EM Pulse
  * End Reduction(38)
  * End Reduction(39)
  * Recharge Reduction(39)
  * Recharge Reduction(39)
  * Hold Duration(40)
  * Hold Duration(40)

Remove the Endurance Reduction enhancements, and add 1 Accuracy and 1 Recharge.  You aren't going to be able to regain your endurance anyway...You might as well make your one shot count.

41) --> Conserve Power
  * End Reduction(41)
  * End Reduction(42)
  * Recharge Reduction(43)
  * Recharge Reduction(43)
  * Recharge Reduction(43)
  * End Reduction(45)

44) --> Temp Invulnerability
  * Damage Resist(44)
  * Damage Resist(45)
  * Damage Resist(45)

47) --> Power Boost
  * Recharge Reduction(47)
  * Recharge Reduction(48)
  * Recharge Reduction(48)

49) --> Recall Friend
  * Empty Enhancement(49)

If you're going to get Recall Friend, don't wait until level 49.  How often do level 49s and 50s need teleports when they aren't dead?  Imagine how much more use you'll get out of the power if you pick it up in your late teens or early twenties.

I'll leave you to figure out Epics on your own. I experimented with the Stone Mastery set for its offensive and defensive properties, but I finally settled on Psionic Mastery for its protection. Just find something that lets you have fun. I hope I helped. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask. Thank you for your time, bubba.

RE: Illusion/Radiation Build

Once again thanks for the input.
Commenting on your suggestions:
Hover: WRONG. lol fly is my least favorite travel power. Hasten Im really bored of espically on my scrapper because now that its not perma I hardly notice the difference. I really hate using super speed unless i accompany it with superjump, you get stuck way to much, espically in hollows.

Swift: Grabbed it because its basically sprint with no end cost. And theres no need for hurdle when you have hover.

Superior Invis: Group invis DOESNT effect you, this is why i grabbed this.

Note: If any of this is wrong, blame hero planner. :P

If anyone wants to help me change some of the slotting order around I would be greatful. I will post the new build with your suggestions later tonight.

RE: Illusion/Radiation Build

I've got a couple things:

1. If you can't get around the game with Super Speed, then you should definitely get Super Speed. The reasoning behind it is that you really have to know the zones to use it. When I first picked up Super Speed, I had the same problem. Now, I know exactly where I need to go to move around in every zone. It's a great tool for familiarization.

2.
QUOTE

lol Then I need to freaking petition the Devs because my Group Invisibility has been effecting me since I picked it up in my toon's twenties.

3. Whoops...I forgot to talk about Hasten. On a Scrapper, Hasten probably isn't incredibly useful. I've heard it pretty often from my Scrapper friends. However, you'll notice a significant difference on a Controller. The majority of your powers will have longer recharge times than Scrapper attacks. Don't believe me? Try it out.

If you have any more questions, feel free to ask. I've had Mr Brightside (my Ill/Rad main) for quite a while. I think he's been through 4 or 5 respecs, so there aren't any powers in either set that I haven't tried. If something doesn't look right on the hero creator, just send me a PM. I'll clear it up for you, bubba.

RE: Illusion/Radiation Build

lol k ill take all of your advice, redoing the build now.

Alright heres what I have so far, this is far from complete, as you can see I dont have an order on the slots yet and mutation has no slots in it(ran out heh). Also I purposly dindt slot health because I feel RA + greens will make me happy. At 24 i will respec out decieve, stick AM in the lvl 4 slot, and get recall friend in lvl 6 slot.
