It seems that GMs will be playing a major role on this game. They will not only be the people who answer you when you have a problem. They will be the people who hold in game events, create quests, help design the common areas, and many other things. They claim to have "an army of GMs" for Hero's Journey.
So what kind of effect will this have on the game? Is this a 100% good thing or will there be downfalls to this?

It could go either way, good or bad. It will all depend on the GM's, but based on the Gm's in their other games, they will do good. Hopefully

It could be interesting. What if the in game npc's were no longer computer controlled, but somone who was paid (or volunteered) to be that npc? That would make for an interesting experience in my opinion.

Well they did say the GM's will be able to control the NPCs, so maybe they will take them over every now and then, and really give us a suprise!

Yeah, and to get paid to do it. I've never been to Saint Louis, but it's starting to sound like a great place to live. :)

St. Louis isn't bad, as long as you aren't in certain parts. And there are a lot of VERY nice suburbs surrounding it. And one other major good thing about MO is the cost of living is a lot lower than any of the coasts.

I enjoy visiting St. Louis every year and have since 1998. Now if they would just finish the construction on 270, life would be good.
And hello everyone. I know there is no "proof" as to who I am but I'm one of the "Army of GameMasters" that HJ has.
I've been working for Simutronics since 1999 and have been part of HJ since about... 2002.
Before you say that's a long dev cycle, keep in mind that everything about HJ has been built from the ground up, incuding the engine (www.heroengine.net)
Once I sort out these forum controls, I'm sure you'll see a tad more of me here.
My thanks to GameAmp for having a spot for us. Keep up the good work!

Welcome to Gameamp HJ-Royce!
It's cool to see someone who actually works on the games we play here for once.
I really like that you guys did that, built it from the ground up. You can make a game on someone else's engine and all, but when you do it all yourself you can really get a good feel for how things fit together. It seems that way with most anything you do, but that's just my opninion.
Looks like we have someone who applied to you Hero's council already. That would be Phedre_D, and thejeni is the Gameamp Community Manager incase you already didn't know that.
Me, I'm just here. I kinda hang out where ever the Gameamp wind blows me. :)
Hope ya like it here.

Hello Royce! Great to see you here. I love the way Simutronics has set up this game. Four years in the making is not that crazy if you really try to make something extraordinary. And it looks like you are doing just that. And I am most impressed by the way you want to get us, the players, involved. And by showing up here you proof you are not joking around. Thanks! I can't wait to see how all of this is going to develop. And you will see more of us too!

Feel free to call me Royce as it is my GM name, and has been since 1998. But I also go by Major (Yes, that's my first name).
Or "Hey! HJ dude!" works too.
As you can probably see, I'm one of the offsite crew. I live in Ohio and do work on\in HJ from home.
If anyone from here is going to be at E3 this year, please stop by and say hello! I'll be there along with "ALOT" of my fellow GM's.

Thanks Phedre_D ;)
Alot of our ideas for the game have been fleshed out with feedback from Hero's Council. So much so that, they gave us a ton of things to work on.
I think "a ton" underestimates the feedback we got when it was first opened.
I'm currently working on the clan and guild system that will be used by players for form... you guessed it... clans and guilds. Features built into that are from "direct" involvment from players and guildleaders.
And clan/guilds is just one of the many systems that they helped to inspire development on.
I do look forward to the day when all of you can see them in action. (No, I don't give dates... sorry)

While I don't know the specifics on this, as I'm not on that team of GMs, I'm fairly sure things will work like they do in their other games. We'll have a large team of volunteer players called GameHosts who will answer players problems first before deciding if it's going to require GM intervention. It's been a very nice and handy setup in the past for handling the dreaded CS side of things that can't be avoided. Plus it frees up more GM's for that army we're creating to take over NPC and kill you all with. :D
Speaking of that. If you think you would like to become a GM don't be afraid to apply over at the main site. That lovely little engine of ours has the greatest feature I've ever seen of allowing people from all over the world to help build this game of ours in real time. It's a great way to get your foot in the door if you've been thinking about joining the industry.

I can answer to this because I have seen it publicly announced before. But GM's will have the ability to do things like live events and control NPC's.
One of my favorite quotes was from Melissa and how she talked about how you may do a quest a couple of times but one of those times things seem to be more coordinated and tougher to do because the NPC's seem to have a mind of there own :) Which leads to the true excitement of the game to have that dynamic component to it. Though I didn't quote her directly that is the jist of what she said. Which if you ask me it makes things all that more interesting!

With the amount of you alone that have shown up on our forums (and other fansites) I would say you have to be an army.

I'm really really interested in this game idea and as I said in another thread I have applied to be a gm. Heh that's just how interested I am also I would like to use it to gain some of that experience stuff all those game companies keep asking me for when I try to apply to them.
Also its great to see all of you taking the time to visit the fansites.

I was wondering how close the army works together. Do the higher ups give your group an area on the world and tell you to do whatever you feel like, or do they come up with a plan what the area will be and leave only personal details to you? And how close do the groups communicate? When I wander around the world can I get the feeling that I am now walking in a Royce or Illuminatis area, or does it feel like one challenging world?

Speaking for the world team it varies. Sometimes the onsite team will come up with the layout and overall idea for an area and we come in to put in the details and others they tell us to build something with a certain theme and we're free to pretty much come up with whatever we want as long as we don't break the lore.
The quest team is different since they're building smaller, more focused, areas but to be honest I don't know their process.
As for walking through the world and knowing you're in an Illuminatis area...well I'm starting to get an idea of certain peoples style I can go in an area and say Illuminatis was here but as a player you'll probably not notice it. Also, every area has to get approved by the onsite team so they go through and make sure that it all fits together and fits the overall art design they're looking for.

Hi all,
I am one of the army of GM's also, and on the quest team. We do work with the smaller areas and try to coordinate with each other about what kinds of themes we are looking for in each quest. Mostly we are free to come up with ideas and talk with each other about them, then decide who will work on what aspect of the project. There are also times when we just freely create and then get the team leads opinion on what we have built. At that point if it is something that looks promising we get the go ahead and continue to build on that and add to it.

1st off Welcome to the site!
And it seems they give you a lot of freedom in designing. That is really cool, It means we will have some cool quests when the game launches. How often do you work w/ say the world team to get things designed how you want them?
