Well, I finally broke down and made a Brute and I'll say, so far so good. He is a EM/Inv currently sitting at level 5 (didn't have time to take him to lvl 14 last night). However, I'm trying to decide on the best travel power for him. I wanted to the Energy secondary for the stealth option, however, I didn't really like the whole 'slide damage off of you' concept.
I'm thinking of going SS for the built in stealth to get through certain missions quickly and not being seen. I didn't want to get pidgeon held to using SJ, even though it's a great travel power, but I want to work on stealth without getting the stealth pool. I was thinking of getting fly just to try out the Air Sup. that everyone has been talking up lately.
Which would you guys recommend? I've noticed that the EM does good damage so far. I've been able to take people down with one shot at times (still getting used to the fury bar concept). I like the auto disorient in the EM attacks (I wonder why I haven't tried this build before). What would be some powers that are a must take and some that can be done without. Trying to gauge because I know the Invul set and I usually try to take almost all of those.
I know I only plan on taking 2 pool sets, a travel and fitness (i have noticed that getting that fury bar raised, takes it's toll on my stamina).
Any feedback is appreciated as I plan on getting to level 14 tonight and would like to have the travel power decision made by then.
I must say, I'm not sure about the defense piece of it, and I'm sure I'll be told that i'm playing mine wrong, however, I see a Scranker in the making. I doubt if i'll be the first in a battle, however, when I get in there, It's going to be on and crackin! Oh, should I get taunt? is that important to keep the fury bar up?
I haven't posted a pic of him yet, because I'm thinking of a bio (i don't do this for all my toons...only the special concept ones...). He's a Tech origin and the name is Slaughter 'n Pain. Coming soon to a screenshot gallery near you.

if your only doing 2 pools, my bet would go with fly for Air Sup, a great chain maker for brutes. Otherwise if you want the stealth, go with flurry for the Attack or haste to speed up your attacks. Fitnees is a definite must. I love EM, the disorient provides that extra crowd control for dmg mitigation, similarly to the bouncing air sup effects.
good luck with the new toon

hmm..
with my EM I took..
Barrage over Energy Punch - faster recharge I had barrage on Auto Attack for Fury generation.. its not on auto anymore now that I have a more stable attack chain.. then respec'd out of barrage and kept energy punch..(the 10-20 points of extra damage really helps)
Whirling Hands - great power even better with Taunt.. Taunt em all on you do a couple attacks n your fury is nice n high and since you taunted there all surrounding you maximizing the damage.. I have this slotted 3Acc-1Dam-2Disorientate - the stun on this is really nice to help buffer the useage of taunt..
Build-Up - I didnt get it at first then I respec'd into it and I still dont really like it.. its almost more effective to keep on the attack than it is to stop for a couple secs for the animation..
Taunt - alot of Brutes will tell you not to get it because there not Tanks or there not there to watch everyones Agro.. but this attack will generate so much Fury by having all the mobs focus on you I dont know why they didnt take it. this is also a great pull power for you just remember it is AE auto hit centered on your target.. be careful though learning when and how to use taunt took me for ever.. because you are not a tank and with out a good Corr/MM/Dom you can face plant easy.. just remember its centered AE so you can target one in the way back and only taunt 3 of the 6 or what have you.. that and think of how much Damage a Stalker can do without worring about his own Agro..
Total Focus-Energy Transfer - get them and be careful of Energy Transfer..
Stun - great for PvP.. PvE ya it has its uses say a tough EB and your disoreintates are not sticking.. do a Whirling Hands-Total Focas-Stun and it should be stuned after that combo.. or just beat it down..
Energy Melee is really expensive and with Inv the lite toggle set you should be good.. even with Stamina I have some End issues.. mainly it is with Total Focus wow that is expensive I would put 1End-Redux in it..
phew..
Air-Sup - great move against runners, fill your attack chain, adds defense... you prolly know the positives.. and I love it..
I plan all my toons with a Respec at or near lvl 30.. The game changes to drasticly at this stage and some of the attacks you needed when you were younger just dont function anymore but you wouldnt have gotten this far-fast without them..
eh hope some of this helps you.. 8)

thanks for the info guys...I'm still trying to see how I want to travel, is it by air or by land (wish it could be by sea).
If I go SS, I won't get flurry, just hate that to no end. I hate the animations on that thing. You are basically stuck until it's done. Hasten would be the route.

lol I chose this toon to be my first one with SS.. and I took Flurry cause I needed an attack more than hasten at the time..
oh man that attack blows nuts when it misses but with a near full fury.. it is mega powerful.. its basicly a DoT.. and it ticks off like 10 times.. I was doing before I repsec'd outa it 15 a hit.. thats 150 damage with it only being 2slotted for Acc...

Think on this for a minute...I'll wait.
...
Ok...if you're hasten-ed, ALL of your attacks come back faster, so what's better, one crappy attack with a long animation or a click power that makes ALL of your attacks come back fast? :)

no I had 3 attacks at the time.. Barrage-bonesmasher-Whirlinghands.. and I was fighting end issues.. If I would have added hasten my end would have been going down faster since both bonesmasher and whirling hands cost more than flurry.. Flurry helped out alot when I was a wee one becuase the animation time forced me to take a pause while I was doing damage..
that and Hasten is not Perma so some of the time I would be A-OK while others I would be in the same boat..
hehe I weighed both options and figured Hasten would add little to no benefit for the problem I was having..
also the animation time isnt that bad.. It is what 3.1seconds for 10 hits and hiting 15-20 a pop thats alot of damage.. specially when you compare it to Total Focus it has a 3.7 animation time.. cept you wont really notice it since you attack at the end of the animation not at the beginning...
Trash maybe but with a full Fury poping out close to 200 damage before your lvl 20 is pretty nice aye..?

Usually people take Energy Punch.. I took barrage for the Very-Fast recharge to help Fury build-up.. to be honest I should have taken Energy Punch its recharge isnt that much slower and it does more damage..

The lack of Hasten being perm-able hasn't really bothered me. I use it for the "boss fight", complete my mission and head to the next one. By the time I get to the next boss fight, it's recharged. Then again, this is on my "newspaper grind" character.
