| QUOTE | Q. How can I get involved in Hero's Journey?
A. Have your guild leader join Hero's Journey's Hero Council. The Hero Council invites gaming community leaders to come together and act as representatives of their player communities and express their desires, thoughts and ideas for game design. In this manner, Hero's Journey will continue to be developed with a broadened range of input and more accurately depict what the player population wants. Ideally, it is a mechanism by which ideas can flow from the community to the community leadership to the Hero's Journey developers, eventually reaching a stage where these ideas can be considered for inclusion into the game. If you do not yet have one, you can create a free play.net account and then fill out the Hero Council application form here. |
This sounds like an interesting way to handle player suggestions, but what about those people that don't want to be in a guild? They already have forums and whatnot, but what's the point of goin to the lengths of something such as a Hero Council, if just anyone can provide feedback? And if they do Hero Council feedback only, what about the soloists?
Cool idea, but could cause problems, IMO.

I don't think they are going to only let guild leaders in. From this maybe we could get someone from Gameamp to join to represent things we discuss here?

Yeah, that would be a cool/wise idea. Do we first have to create a guild or at least a guild name, or can we just rush in as GameAmp? I still think "GameAmp Guides" is a beautiful guild name. But somebody else might have a better name.
And maybe even more important, who will represent us?

I don't think it's refering to "Hero's Journey" guilds persay. But to people that are already leaders in another community.
I think they're targeting them because they can influence other people to join, and probably have good input on what has or hasn't worked in their community.
I applied for the Hero's Council because I was a leader in the SWG community I was a part of, and a large portion of them are looking for something new, and we'd like to stay together.
With that said I think it's best if another member here also apply. At least then the odds of someone getting in and having a voice are better.
If I do get accepted then I will be all means let all of you know, and I will be glad to share the idea's of this community with the council as well as those of my SWG community.

I think having another member here apply also would be great. And if we could have a voice as "Gameamp" that would be really, really cool.
Now I wonder where I could find someone who would enjoy doing this *looks around*

Yeah, very subtle :)
But thanks for the votes of confidence. The only worry I have is that I don't live in a US time zone. Might that be an issue?

If you're on at this hour on a regular basis I don't think it should be a problem.

How many people are actually a part of this community and do plan on playing this game when it's released? And are you mostly US based?

Well, there are 52,000 GameAmp members. But I am sure they won't all flock to this game. The release is still nearly a year away so it is very hard to say how many will join. This particular GameAmp site has only been up a week. Slowly by slowly more people will come and visit, and hopefully stay. Especially if we have interesting topics floating around :) We are US based, and I guess about 80% of the members are US based. But even under the staff members we have people from all over the world.

You think we're a year away from Beta or the actual release? Once people can get into beta then I'm sure you'll get more hits. I had no idea the site had only been open for a week though.

oh one more thing, will anyone from here be at E3? I won't be able to go but would love to hear what someone can find out about Hero's Journey if they're already going.

Actually there are 77,106 Gameamp members *grin*

The game is due out in 2007, so if we are lucky we will see beta at the end of this year, but I'm not holding my breath for it. And Gameamp (the network) has been around for a few years. We just launched this particular site on the network last week. And we are hoping it will be one of the big ones *grin*.
This game has a lot of potential (and I'm drolling already!), so this site should take off in a bit. We just like having the sites up early to start to build a community so when the game does launch you know the place to go when you have questions, want to team, ect.

We will have someone there. Not sure how many of the sites on the network he will be bringing info back on, but I'm hoping all of them.

Wow, they are pretty serious about the council. I have signed up, but not yet admitted. Which is not a surprise. But what did surprise and impress me at the same time is that they actually plan to phone interview everybody before they are admitted. Which means we will have a group of serious players. I am getting more and more excited about this game.

You're correct about it not being just guild leaders. Anyone on the council can nominate/recommend someone onto the council.
The main reason for selecting guild leaders as the primary target though is because by and large they are generally part of a large group of similar minded people. Soloists are not, but that doesn't mean their input isn't wanted. There are other ways to be heard that aren't hard to find with a little digging. mmorpg.com has quite a few of us GMs posting and taking ideas from, and here now as well. I think we also have quite a few over at IGN, but I'm not positive on that. We also frequent some of the fansites, but those places tend to be run by people already with Council reps.
If you do get on the council be forewarned that the forums can be a bit daunting to new people. I think Royce mentioned somewhere that they were looking into new forums, but that's kind of backburnered while we prep for E3.

Daunting is one way to put it. It took me forever to figure out how to read anything on there. A new layout would be great. But I do think getting us screenshots and videos ready for E3 is more important at this time *grin*

Yes, the regular HJ forum is already a lot. But that is problem with any new forum you join. I usually jump in on active discussions since there is simply too much history to read. It is uncanning to think how much people write up nowadays that is actually lost within a week. And some of that stuff is really great.

Thought I'd let you all know of this little tidbit on the official forums.

I won't say when, I won't say how, I'll only say it's in our plans, the software has been purchased, but in the meantime, those with the time and the know-how are busy doing other things.
