That's right! ANet released a news update confirming character slot purchase! Here's the link:

Great.
Now we have to pay for what should of been included in the Factions Game anyways.
Well without a monthly fee Arena Net have to think up of SOME ways to make a bit of extra cash.
And you call them steamed hams, despite the fact that they are obviously grilled?

The announcement didn't have a link or any more to followup with, said more information released later, but I'm guessing they'll be released as:
Online keys - (payment: credit card, paypal, etc.)
"Game Cards" - (like WoW kind of pre-paid time cards only one time cards with a key for an extra slot -- payment: cash, credit, debit, etc.)
I'm off for the night, so one last BUMP
EDIT: Should have been released in Factions? They gave us two already, 4 for the new people/unbinders. Obviously they're heeding to people's complaints/wishes for more char space. Remember, ANet is an organiztion that actually interacts (Gaile Gray) and cares about it's players, releasing new content all the time. They're not doing for extra cash...well they might be, but that wasn't their initial intention, I'm willing to bet on it.

Although I think its a pretty good idea they are going to implement buying charcter slots... I think it was kinda shady of them to wait untill a week before factions is released and have a bunch of people having to cancel the extra collectors editions they ordered so they would have the extra dances and stuff when if they had known ahead of time they could have just purchased extra slots knowing it would be cheaper on them. Although I haven't gotten or plan on getting a collectors edition, I think this was unfair to other people. Perhaps though anet wasn't sure if they where going to go with the purchase extra slots idea because of technical situations to do with game code and didn't want to disapoint anyone and wanted to make sure it could be utilized.

wow... maybe i shouldn't have bought 2 GW boxes right off the bat.
oh well, looks like there'll be some expansion definately in order when that does go through.

this is EXACTLY what i was referrign to in my above post
They make available more character classes to play than there is character slots which means that if you want to play all the characters and dont want to delete one or more of them because you have spent hard time on building them, then you will HAVE TO OUTLAY MORE MONEY TO DO THIS by either purchasing two copies as everdream has done or purchasing more character slots which has only recently become available.
My opinion on this subject is quite simple.
8 character professions
then provide 8 character slots for your players IN YOUR INITIAL RELEASE OF THE GAME.
simple.
The only possible reason for them to withhold slots is so they can make more money via the above two transactions i described.
This has teed me off since the original guild wars was released.

Ok, i don't post much..but read this site alot. Anyway, really doesn't bother me that Arenanet is charging for char slots. Think its a good way to get 1 or 2 slots if you need them.
However, for those that bought multiple copies of Prophecies..
thats not so bad either due to the extra storage space providing you have 2 computers and can trade items between accts. Still considering that for myself.. just waiting to see if price drops alittle before doing that.
Btw.. please no credits.. want to stay at zero lol

I do not think that Anet intends to make people pay for extra slots with Factions. I believe we still get the inital 2 extra slots but we have the OPTION of buying more. I think its kinda cool actually. Also, those who bought extra accounts, try not to feel to slighted. That $50 is only ten more than the $40 it would take to get those slots through this new offer.

Anet did this because we as players asked for it, not because they were trying to be shady or underhanded.
I also own 2 copies of prophecies and 2 pre orders of factions. Not really that upset about it hough. Ill use all my 12 char slots eventually.

I never really had a problem with Character Slots and don't think I will. £5 sounds very pricey though considering how much the actual game costs anyway.

i havn't been having problems with charactor slots being filled up, but i may buy one or two just so i can have one of each type of profession

I actually like this idea, but only if they start selling them in stores like EB Games, etc. They may do it online though, because if it is as a card, then they can be stolen and free accounts be made all the time. There's been too many times I deleted a character I liked, but was bored with to try something else out. I wouldn't mind paying an extra $10 to maybe make another warrior that would just be for running, etc. vs having 1 warrior that does everything and having to remember all the setups, etc for them.
I think it's a good idea to sell these extra slots, and you have to think also. Once we buy the game, ANet stops making money off of us. Why not offer another way that they can make some money to fund such an awsome game.

For me, I was kind of disappointed because I actually don't need any more character slot because playing with four character is enough for me. I have warrior, monk, ranger and necro most of this build can farm pretty much everywhere. Let say oro farming I either bring my warrior, monk or necro. Or maybe tomb farming I'll bring my ranger, monk or necro. As you can see with that four character build I'm pretty much taken care off.
Instead of extra slot character why not make the storage bigger so we can hold more stuff to it. blah..
