Well as I've already said I'm unsure about whether or not to create and assassin.
With 3 days to go, I'm thinking I'll change my ele's secondary to assassin (the idea of using stealth with AoEs like inferno is delicious), and I'm going to create a ritualist.
My mesmer won't have any changes made, and I'm unsure about my monk.
So that leaves me with one spot spare - assuming I keep my pvp spot (and there is no reason not to).
So I have this one spot that I'm not really sure what to do with.
Now I'm not a melee player, I learnt that fairly early on in GW, I really suck in melee. But Visu - the cinematic assassin - looked so cool! Having said that the female assassins don't really get a good choice of hair or faces. So I'm wondering - should I make an assassin, or should I leave it to those who are better in melee than I am?

Assassins will be good flag runners in GvG :)
Try W/A or A/R for melee. I wouldnt advise being a E/A except to unlock skills. Shadow stepping to use PBAoE when your best armor is the base damage of the weapon when neither character is enchanted...Well, thats just not a good idea lol.
You might as well make the assassin to get the skills in that last slot since you arent going to do anything else :D

To the best of my knowledge an assassin's base armour is the same as an elementalists. I can see your point that it could be a recipe for disaster, but I'm rather facinated by the possiblity - once again something that comes from the cinematic trailer (which I probably shouldn't go on). I might try it in pvp first perhaps before chagning my pvp character over.
Like I said, I'm not really a melee player, so I'm cautious about making an assassin. I've been contemplating a R/A also...

The Elementalist has a new selection of skills too, I know during the FPE, the Eles and Rits were the hardest to kill. Silver Armor was a nightmare, so it may be a little early to discount profession mixes.
I think the skill Recall would be great for an Ele, you could cast it on the Monk for example, then shadow step to target foe, release hell, then cancel Recall and be teleported back to safety before you take any real damage.

Yeah Genesis, this is the sort of thing I was thinking about. The idea of getting in and out quickly and still being able to produce silly amounts of damage on the unsuspecting.

So true, so true.. i truly think Silver Armor should be nerfed.
Impossible to get an attack in when they use Ward against Melee along with it, and you get damaged while attacking, too!
I don't think the armor mod will be as popular as, say, the hp mod. Unless you can use two of them, then you could atleast get the same protection against elemental damage as a warrior.
Heh. I'm definatly gonna make an Assassain, and then i'll have a pvp slot when i merge the two games YAY! :)

I was always a melee type player in other MMORPGs, but since I got into GW and finishing the game with my melee characters, I went out on a limb and tried out the casters... It was a great experience and it helped breath new life into my Guild Wars experience.
You paid to play the game, get the most out of your money. Step outside of your comfort zone and give it a shot :D If you have the characters slots, go ahead and make a sin. If you don't like playing it, try making another character such as a dervish or a warrior.

Assassin's are very good if you just keep in mind a few basic rules:
~ Hit & Run Tactics, no die-hard dmg takers.
~ Lots of Combo Skill's, so timing is sometimes important
~ Fastest attack of all, so this can be used with spells that buff you with each attack you deal.
I use a Vigorious Assassin build, and im very, very happy about it, got me through Factions, Prophecies and Nightfall.
Parties aren't too hard too find, just ping your build so they know you know how to play ;) Plus guildies always come in handy or heroes.
PvX builds currently doesn't work, so post a link when it works.

Assasins are some of the least wanted characters in a PuG so if you do that alot...skip it. They are fun to play more fun than the otehr two melee classes in my oppinions...Oh and not being good at melee is good beacause you might not tank as much...If you play alone alot and want a really fun character picka sin.

Assassins are a lot of fun but it can be hard to get into groups. If you have guildies willing to help you get trough the game with your assassin I fully recommend it. Assassins can be quite the challenge in pve you can do endless tweaking on the builds. But as a general rule of thumb when playing an assassin, just know that assassins aren't tanks or be prepared to be painfully reminded of that.

In PvP:
They own, thats all I have to say.
In PvE:
I really still don't get whats so hard about PvE for some ppl. I CAN stay in the front line and NEVER die. I got my survivor title because of 3 skills(Dark escape, heart of shadow and shadow refuge). It's not a matter of you CANT STAY in the frontline, not all sin builds are made for normal hit and run tactics. If you know how to use your build and what to expect (like a real assassin should) then thats all you need. Builds like Shadow prison, yes hit and run all day but if you combo is like : unsuspecting strike wild strike and death blossum (Moebius strike) then your not going to want to do that.
Really sins break down into 3 catagories and making all of them hit and run sins ruin the builds. When you are taking dmg, get out, but hit and run is not the only style of sin, theres still pressure builds and shutdown builds.
It's not all about how long you stay in the frontline, its how good you are. If you come to realize you have more than 100 deaths on nub island, get an ele.
To answer your queston, You said ur not a melee person so... idk if you haven't already play a war or a dervish, just don't take the idea of party tank along with you to sin.
