| Guild Wars: Factions - UPDATE!!! |
|
|
|
Pahbahzhen, Brother Mhenlo,
Today marks five years since you completed your studies with us and returned to your homeland in the distant northern kingdoms. You were one of the last Tyrian students I trained. Therefore I want you to be among the first Tyrians to learn that, although Shing Jea Monastery remains closed to foreign students, our noble emperor has reopened the port at Kaineng Center to ships of every nation. Trade and travel between Tyria and Cantha are once more returning to something resembling normalcy. And it is with even greater hope that I look upon this year's crop of new students at our humble monastery. It has been some time since I have seen such a promising group of young Canthans so eager to take up the mantle of the hero.
At long last, we have forged what I believe is a permanent peace between the Tengu and the humans of Cantha. The last of the Tengu Wars, which you saw for yourself when you trained here, has been over for almost a year now. Emperor Kisu has declared a day of celebration marking the one-year anniversary of the peace treaty, and I would invite you to join us if you are able (though I certainly understand if you are not, with the troubles Tyria has recently faced).
And yet, I am troubled. In my many years, I have learned to trust my instincts, and my instincts tell me that despite peace breaking out from Shing Jea Island to the Canthan mainland, my homeland stands on the verge of dark times. There is talk of a strange disease that strikes the remote settlements, and the piratical cultists of the Crimson Skull grow bolder by the day. The two warring vassal factions—the Kurzicks and Luxons—have been brought to the negotiating table through Emperor Kisu’s efforts, but I cannot help but feel that the two sides are not sincere. The emperor is hopeful, and I serve his wishes, but each faction seems to see only the immediate threat posed by their lifelong enemies. My instincts tell me that their conflict, if it continues, only serves to aid this dark force I cannot yet name.
Be watchful, my young friend. Though you call Tyria your home, Cantha may soon need your help.
Master Togo
23 Suzhen, 1582
WELCOME TO CANTHA
Travel to and from Cantha
In order to travel to Cantha for the first time, a Prophecies character must take the "Mhenlo's Request" quest from Firstwatch Sergio in Lion's Arch. Following the quest steps will unlock ship travel to Cantha for that character. Your account must have an active Guild Wars Factions key or Guild Wars Factions Preorder key in order to travel to Cantha.
Similarly, in order to travel to Tyria for the first time, a Factions character must take the "Chaos in Kryta" quest from Guardsman Chienpo in Kaineng Center. Following the quest steps will unlock ship travel to Tyria for that character. Your account must have an active Guild Wars Prophecies key in order to travel to Tyria.
As always, PvP-Only Characters cannot leave the Battle Isles.
Day of the Tengu
Players using the Guild Wars Factions Preorder key for early access may travel to Shing Jea Monastery and talk to the Master of Celebration to take part in a special event called the Day of the Tengu. Native Canthan characters will find their way to the monastery very quickly. Characters coming from Tyria will need to take the following steps:
* Travel to Cantha as described above.
* Travel south through the Marketplace to Kaineng Docks.
* Speak to Firstmate Xiang, who will transport you to Seitung Harbor.
* Travel west through Saoshang Trail and Linnok Courtyard to reach Shing Jea Monastery.
FEATURES
Alliances
Alliances will not be available until the official launch of Guild Wars Factions on April 28th.
Titles
Players will now be able to earn titles, which can be shown to other players. Use the Titles tab in the Hero panel to select a title for display. Only titles toward which you have made any progress will appear in the list.
Titles apply to a single character or a whole account, as appropriate. A player can display only one title at a time but may earn any number of titles. Many titles have multiple levels, with each new level indicating an increasingly difficult level of achievement.
Sample Titles:
* Canthan Explorer. You must explore 60% of Cantha to earn the first level of this title. (Character based.)
* Skill Hunter. You must capture 90 Elite skills to earn the first level of this title. (Character based.)
* Gladiator. You must have 25 win-streaks of 10 consecutive wins in the Random Arenas maps to earn the first level title. (Account based.)
* Champion. You must win 50 high-rated GvG battles to earn the first level of title. (Account based.)
Guild Services
A Guild Lord NPC now appears in guild halls outside of combat. Guild members may talk to this NPC to hire service NPCs for the guild.
Guild Scrimmages
Guilds now have the ability to fight scrimmage battles. Scrimmage battles occur between two groups in the same guild hall and do not count toward ladder standing. To initiate a scrimmage, a group of one or more players must initiate a guild battle and choose "initiate a scrimmage match." Any other group of one or more players in that guild hall may then choose to join the scrimmage battle, which will initiate after a short countdown.
User Interface
The general appearance of the user interface has been updated to mark the arrival of Guild Wars Factions. In addition, several new features have been added:
* While zoomed-in, the world map now shows the names of all explorable areas your character has visited previously.
* In addition to showing the map name, the large text that appears when you first enter a new map now features a second line indicating the type of the map and, if applicable, which alliance owns the map.
* The Party window indicates if a member is out of compass range by dimming that character's name.
* Health bars in the Party window and Target Display can now indicate when a character is under the effects of a Weapon Spell.
* The icon that appears in the Party window when a party member calls a target now shows the hotkey to select the called target. (As always, hold down CTRL when attacking or using skills to call your target.)
* New customizable targeting hotkeys have been added for Target Next Party Member, Target Previous Party Member, Target Party Members 9 –12. In smaller parties, these hotkeys will target NPCs in the Allies section of the Party Window.
* Clicking on an enemy while holding a bundle item now causes you to follow that character instead of causing an error message.
* Henchmen now sometimes chat during a mission. In outposts, players can talk to henchmen by double-clicking on them.

The arrival of Assassins and Ritualists has caused many core professions to re-evaluate their skills. (Please note that the number ranges below, such as 3..8, are for attribute 0 to attribute 15.)

ARMOR CHANGES
New armor designs from Cantha have begun to influence armor crafters in Tyria. Existing armor sets will not be updated yet, but a means to upgrade existing level-20 armor for free will be provided in the near future.
Elementalist:
* Aeromancer's armor: now provides +10 armor vs. elemental damage and +10 armor vs. lightning damage.

* The word "obsidian" has been added to armor names, in accordance with the naming convention introduced in Guild Wars Factions. For example, the Monk leggings that provide additional armor against physical damage are now called "Judge's Obsidian Pants" instead of "Judge's Pants." (This change does not affect armor crafted prior to this update.)

I think what GStricto is trying to say here is a small disagreement with the statement of the factions not being nurfrd from sneek weekend to the final pack.
I am sure that a few things would have changed as to not let bugs and so on pass into the final pack. We found a few bugs and many were a little too helpful that may of stuffed long term play up.
as for GStricto statement,, beware posting your first thoughts, think first.

Alright, I was excited before I read the entire update. Now I'm pissed. 8 freakin' minions!!!! No way, that sucks. I love my MM, there is no way they can do this to me, it totally ruins it, even if you do have one level 26 minion, it just isn't worth it. Also, my guild leader, who doesn't play all that much, has been saving up for 15k platemail for like four months now, and finally bought it last week, and then they raise the armor rating. However, it seems that they only changed it for buying new stuff. What is with that?

lol,, yep a few people will be asked to put their build where there mout is in 1on1 and a few ego's will roll ,, sounds kool
I also got pre upped armour rating 15k plate and am not happy and nor will any of the others. I also got fo the same character a couple of the other 15k armours and if they also have been changed someone will not be happy.
I have not followed this in detail but if they wanted to upgrede an armour then bring it in as a new item, maybe they have done this or maybe not but Im tired of following updates n nurf posts to find out what has been lost n found this week.

It's actually 10 minions max. As for my first thought, I stand by it. If people want to complain about 12v12 and minions being too strong, learn to play a damn assassin well.

According to the update notes, a way to upgrade armor to the new specs will happen soon. What soon means is anyones guess.
The notes say that Rogue's armor no longer has less energy than standard but I still see less energy on the crafter list. Anyone else notice this, the one armor that has not changed, that they said would change?

What is it wit people always looking for the worst in updates?
I personaly find this upgrade very nice and very good! Sure, I will play my MM less, but why bother? now Ritualists and assasins are here, we have a whole bucnh of new charr and skills, who know what will happen next? Maybe there is an uber-anti-minion-master skill and MM would be pointless from now on...
I say we wait a week and then think about what the update dit for (or against) us...

I agree with Dark. I actually don't mind the "nerfs" too much, but we should see what happens in a week or so as I'm sure there is still much "tweaking" on Anets part to be done. I'm not going to complain about the nerfs, as I am actually excited to come up with some new builds on my own. I started GW a couple months ago, so the most effective builds for everything were already widely known. As for all u MM's out there, sorry your fav got nerfed.

I gotta say this seems to be a very positive update for the game and a most welcomed one. I'm a big fan of the little changes made such as gold armours actually containing superior runes and purples only containing major ones.
The fact that you can see area's on the in-game map is a wonderful change along with the clearer quest indidicators for missions. Little things make all the difference and Guild Wars has become that much more enjoyable for it. The title system is one of those such things as well that really mean nothing, yet give people something to strive for and continue playing when they've completed the main game.
Thank you for making a great game even better!
As for those who play minion masters like myself...there really isn't that big of a difference...unless you're trying to mass minions with only 3-4 points in death magic. Generally, most people go for the higher to highest level minions possible...if you do this...they play pretty much as good as they ever did. I say give changes a chance before assuming the game has totally been destroyed. If there were any truth to these statements to begin with...we'd never see an elementalist using fire magic anymore (among other things). I find it hard to believe that there will be no more minion masters because their life support skills were modified (yet still strong). If you truly want better healing on your minions after the changes, consider going monk as secondary to fill the gap.

Anyone notice:
# Barbs: decreased recharge time to 20 seconds.
# Mark of Pain: decreased recharge time to 20 seconds.
# Weaken Armor: decreased recharge time to 20 seconds.
Not only is my favorite build now even better, but necros have been improved as a support character. Actually, my guide on the Ranger/Necro should be popping up pretty soon, it's been in the pipe quite a few days now.
Mantra of Recovery also got major improvement. I'm way excited to play with it now.

| QUOTE | * Illusion of Haste: fixed a bug that prevented this spell from inflicting the Crippled Condition if it ended prematurely.
|
The spell reads:
For 5-11 seconds, you are no longer Crippled, and you move 33% faster. When Illusion of Haste ends, you become Crippled for 15 seconds.
Here's a new problem... and I don't know how to report it!
Now when Illusion of haste expires... it still causes the crippled condition, HOWEVER, when cast again, it does NOT remove the crippled condition, thus making Illusion of hast about as useful as an umbrella during a meteor shower.
I have not even tested to see if it to see if it removes crippled at all being as I use it merely to run places. So that will be my next check, prolly go to the isle of the nameless and see if it removes any cripple condition, or just those NOT brought on by the after-effects of the spell.

I know a few MMs who are rlly pissed with the restriction thing but overall its meant to be a positive update and thats what it is. What I find f****** annoying is that they have kinda decreased the power od prophecies so people go out and buy factions. Not customer care. Oh well. Donr have necro so thats ok for me.

Oh please stop the whining. MM isn't dead. When I played MM with guidies, I never had more than 10 minions up. The reason being was that I spread my abilities to more than just minions. Minions are still as useful as they ever will be. The only thing that gets nerfed are the stupid MMF builds in PvP. Now you don't have to depend on 20+ minions to win for you.
Verata's Sacrifice isn't nerfed.
| QUOTE | | * Verata's Sacrifice: decreased Enchantment duration to 5..10 seconds; increased recharge time to 60 seconds; skill now instantly recharges if you have 3 or fewer undead servants; this skill now only affects undead servants you control. |
This means that now, if you have a Flesh Golem or 3 strong minions, Verata's Sacrifice will instantly recharge. Having dozens of minions is overpowered, this skill change was done to make the new form of MMs MUCH more powerful.
This is just like the recent update that nerfed gear/keg/book farming. People can't seem to comprehend a world without their safe little builds.
The biggest golden nugget in this update is Power Spike. Now it's recharge is 12 seconds, which is awesome.
And with the armor, they will have a mechanism in the future to upgrade current armor for free, don't worry. Your brand new 15k or FoW armor will still be updated, they're working on it.
And umm... Explain to me how they nerfed Edenial? As far as I know, Eburn and Esurge still do 80 dmg at max Domination.
And after looking at the Ranger skills, I'm pretty sure RSpike is still useful. It's only reasonable that EoE would only affect enemies in it's area.

As a MM Ive always got 15+ minions under my command, providing theres enuff meat of course, this update not only cuts my firepower in 30% but makes then die faster. The price of MM gear is about half it was last week and its even harder to find a group being one.
Whats the point of Vampiric Horrors? The health of MM is not an issue as big as energy management, wich they tweaked a bit.
For most of the part the latest Anerf changes did ok, but, for a reason unknown to mere mortals they're still favoring IWAY.
And..that was about time they fixed the armor stuff. I was growing tired of salvaging gold armors and getting major runes.
Good thing the rate of Sup vigor and Sup Abs got up. Prices will go lower soon.
Agrios out, going Luxon tomorrow.

I honestly believe that this change is so that a-net can balance out the prices of things, because some things were getting very high. Someone probably already pointedf this out, but I do believe FIRMLY that is the reason.
