| Christopher Reeve's (Superman) dies.... |
|
|
|
So tonight I get home from Thanks Giving Dinner (Canadian) and turn on MMO and what do I hear...The DJ reports that Chris Reeves had passed away. In his honor a series of songs were played. Starting with "Superman"by Five for Fighting.
Not only was Superman the character a huge insperation and role motto for many comic book/movie fans, but Christopher brought something special to the character. He brought to life a symbol of strength, compasion, and virtue. But he was more that that... in character and in life he taught us to stand up and fight for what was right and never give up on hope.
We know on the outside he was an actor playing a role...but to many of us, in the back of our minds, he is Superman, and always will be.
He is our hero.
Christopher Reeve, Rest in peace.

And remember, Christopher Reeve was a Real Life Hero, too.
After his riding accident in 95, he founded a help organization for paraplegics. He promoted it with remarkable wittiness, never giving up on himself.
He had remarkable strength in his arms and legs due to a training program he pulled through with an iron will.
Goodbye Superman, you will be missed.

Thank you Mr. Reeves. Through your movies and your personal prevails, you've shown many people hope and given them the willpower to go on living. Rest in peace, Superman.

What can one say about Christapher Reeve that hasn't already been said, or done (Unbelievably touching Guardian Server)
He was the man who made me want to be a Super Hero. It wasnt Superman, it was Chris Reeve. He made the character so believable that I thought he would come into my living room.
To honor this, I, like Guardian, set up a Tribute on Champion.
Goodbye Christopher Reeve... Superman is dead.... long live Superman :'(

Even in his time of hardships, and being unable to use his legs, he helped others who looked up to him walk through their lives of trouble. And even at times, even without his legs, he could symbolicly walk along with them.

It makes you wish that this never really ends. It is unfortunate to see someone who helped more people in one day of his life than most people do in a lifetime, and it's even worse to see him in the condition he was in, when you could tell just from looking into his eyes that he still had the strength to rip his braces off and walk away from it all. I cried more when I heard the news than I did at my Grandfathers funeral, mostly because people like him and Jimmy Carter are a dying breed of person that use their fame and wealth to do whatevers in their power to help others. All I can say now is the worlds lost something irreplacible, we all lost a little when we heard the news. I know I did, because I had hope that he would someday call a television conference, come out in his wheelchair, then surprise everyone by standing up out of it, and with tears of joy give his wife a hug without her having to bend down to get it from him. Instead he lost, and it's painful to see someone with so much hope and love perish like it was nothing.

I just thought I would add from a post I did on another board I belong too, The guys there thought this was a great send off, so here goes:
A ringing can be heard in the distance. From a hill, along way from here. As you move closer, you are met by others, wondering what the bell was for. The ringing continues, and you join a group attempting to see the source. The ringing is as loud as you can take as you move into an area engulfed by people, and at the center is a single coffin, with a Red and Yellow \"S\" insignia flag on top of it, and a similar symbol carved into a giant tombstone behind the coffin. All around people are crying, and looking at both the body, and the headstone. As you approch, you read the headstone \"Here lies Superman, a hero for all seasons, and a model for all people. He will be missed\"
Goodbye Christopher Reeve, godspeed.

Champion Server holding Vigil.
I met a person there, during the 3 hours I spent saluting. His character was named "Tribute", a superman clone. But unlike most clones, the character wasn't about honoring Superman, instead it honored Reeve. The Background story told a lot about Reeve and what he had done for the player of Tribute, inspiring him to fight on, no matter what happens. He made the toon in July, and had just hit 20.
One of the phrases in his BG that really touched me was: "I believe Christopher Reeve will overcome his disability, and will one day be able to jump buildings again."
I so wish for NC-Soft to do something to honor CR's memory.

wow.... that's really touching.... I wish Tribute was on this morning when I rallied what heros I could for my Memorial Tribute. I would like to meet him. They should erect a statue within Paragon City honoring him. With Portal Corp around, there is no reason Superman could never have visited Paragon city before, so news of his death would probably reach even there. If they could get permission from DC, they could erect the Statue that was in the Comics when they killed of the character in 92. That would be an amazing Tribute. As it stands now, the CoH site doesnt even mention his passing though...

Christopher Reeve made me believe I could fly when I was a child and instilled in me a sense of wonder I still feel to this day. I spent hours, like Ramses, running through the neighborhood with a towel round my neck, jumping off the rocks at the playground like they were buildings and imagining that I could outrun the merry-go-round that I pretended was a speeding train. His portrayal of Superman let me dream...
As Christopher Reeves later in life he let me dream about the real world. Seeing that compassion, that determination, that hunger, that quest to do what was right for such noble causes made me dream that we all as a whole, as a human race, could be more than we are. His selfless giving and his fight for his foundation and for his beliefs were stronger than any Man of Steel.
God and Goddess bless you Chris. May history ever remember you for the super man you were, in all facets of your life.

Rest in Peace.
Superman's Song (Crash Test Dummies)
Tarzan wasn't a ladies' man
He'd just come along and scoop 'em up under his arm
Like that, quick as a cat in the jungle
But Clark Kent, now there was a real gent
He would not be caught sittin' around in no
Junglescape, dumb as an ape doing nothing
Superman never made any money
For saving the world from Solomon Grundy
And sometimes I despair the world will never see
Another man like him
Hey Bob, Supe had a straight job
Even though he could have smashed through any bank
In the United States, he had the strength, but he would not
Folks said his family were all dead
Their planet crumbled but Superman, he forced himself
To carry on, forget Krypton, and keep going
Tarzan was king of the jungle and Lord over all the apes
But he could hardly string together four words: "I Tarzan, You Jane."
Sometimes when Supe was stopping crimes
I'll bet that he was tempted to just quit and turn his back
On man, join Tarzan in the forest
But he stayed in the city, and kept on changing clothes
In dirty old phonebooths till his work was through
And nothing to do but go on home

I don't think a Superman statue somewhere in Paragon City would be the best way to honor Christopher Reeve. I think the best way would be to rename one of the hospitals in Paragon City to Reeve Medical Center. His work as an advocate for long-term disability benefits and spinal cord injury research made him a real-life hero, not the costume he wore in a handful of movies.

Though a caped hero would interesting, I must agree with Warbride: His dedication to Stem-cell research, and his sheer determination in that particular field, along with his own strength of will should be enough to, if not in a fictional city but in a real city, rename a building of healing or scientific research after the man.
Forgive me. I'm crying while typing this, so I'm sorry if it isn't making much sense. What is there to say that hasn't already been said. There are no words to describe the emotions we are all feeling about the man, but I do not wish to disuade anyone from expressing them. He touched us all in different ways.
I already said my partings to him, I shant do it again to belittle the event. Rather, I will do so on my time.
Thank you

That.... Is a GREAT Idea.... Probably should be Atlas' Hospital though, since that is where everyone starts, it's kind of a place seen by EVERYONE that comes to CoH.

dude this sucks. i think Reeves had every little boy running around with towels around their necks and in superman tighty whities. reading this and seeing the pictures reminds me of the "Greyson" trailer I saw on newgrounds.com. Wherever Reeves is now, he will be missed by all generations.
