Today the economy was ruined

Today the GW economy was officially ruined(my opinion), for example the price of tanned hide squares has increased to around 25g, all prices have changed and many shops are running out of stock. What do you think.

RE: Today the economy was ruined

Haha nope. This is what i've been telling everyone about. Once factions comes out the prices are going to go crazy for about a week or less and then stabalize. the economy itself is not ruined because it cant be ruined unless everyone power farms or buys gold of ebay. Otherwise the economy will remain fairly stable until ANet introduces a new item that people can farm or a FoTW causes a price rise or drop...but overall the economy as a whole will remain stable..

Thats like saying the world economy is ruined because some new vehicle came out and is selling better then all the others right now, eventually it will level out and be back to normal.

RE: Today the economy was ruined

Actually the increase in the price of materials came about as a result of the armor update and people not wanting to wait for ANet to make the changes readily available.

As for the GW economy i dont think it's possible for it to be ruined because ANet controls the supply side.. So as long as they keep power farming in check or release new items or chapters on a regular basis, the economy will have its normal fluctuation periods but will generally remain stable. If they let players (god forbid they do this) control the economy 100% then there is the potential for the economy to be ruined..but because supply is unlimited from their side, they can increase or decrease the rarity of items as needed to keep the economy stable.

Though this will still be remembered as "The Great Guildwars Factions Depression of 06" It will go down in the record books, 1 step above the dust bowl...

Personally I think that the economy fluctuating is a good thing, it allows players to buy and sell and make profits. How it used to be before in my oppinion they wrecked the economy. It Allows players who dont continually farm to make money from selling their wares that arn't super rare like Tanned Hide Squares.

RE: Today the economy was ruined

It's far from ruined. People who decided to come back and had a stockade of ectos/shards probably sold a bunch to the merchants and that's why those prices are low.

Rune prices are jumping around a little, big woop.

Resources to craft armor actually a little high? NO WAY. Does *no one* remember when steel was worth 2 platinum+? Come on people... times have been far worse.

The only thing that has changed in my view is that instead of merchanting armor pieces I now salvage them and sell the tanned hide/iron/steel/cloth. Big woop :P

As for the weapon customizations and such, there are still PLENTY of awesome non-craftable weapons dropping that look SUPER HOT. I've been doing plenty of factions farming and I've seen some amazing weapons.

BTW: If you have the cash for it pick up a few sup absorbs. They're only 30k and you KNOW they're gonna fly back up.

RE: Today the economy was ruined

yeah of course materials are expensive, everyone made a new assassin/ritualist and now they crafted 1-2 sets of new armors and bought all the trader's goods. had to wait 30 minutes to buy 32 steel ingots.

It is better to use Expert Slavage on the items you find, I managed to get 20 steel ingots in couple hours. Seeing how the trader is dead you can probably salvage the required amount faster than waiting :D

RE: Today the economy was ruined

I believe the change in the economy was to make sure that players interact and trade with each other so that players didn't simply rely on vendors, and honestly, I think Anet are taking the *kitten* out of us there, considering we're still stuck with the same old crappy trade system =(

RE: Today the economy was ruined

You know you might be right OS about them encouraging us to trade more with each other.
They do do stuff for a reason.
I think they 'nerfed' the gear trick and MM so that Sorrow's, Tombs, UW, and FoW would be less appealing so people would be more tempted to go to Factions..
Anyway, so you could be right, but I'm hoping that you're just being too hasty on the 'still stuck with same trade system' comment, and that we'll see a change soon...
I find the GW economy fascinating. You could learn a lot about real world economy from studying it, and dabble in it yourself at no 'real' cost.

RE: Today the economy was ruined

It won't take long until everybody has the new armors, and the prices of materials will begin to drop, as surplus amounts are restored.

-

The really smart people stocked up on materials prior to the launch. After the FPE, I took note about what was needed for Assassin Armor, and I began hording it.

The whole of my 2nd account storage is taken up with full stacks of crafting materials. And I didn't buy any of them... it took a week of playing, and i salvaged everything I found, and expert salvaged everything metal - in the hope of getting steel.

-

Just because you can't get it at the trader, doesn't mean it isn't easily available.

Imagine what it was like at release, all materials for everything you needed had to be collected by you, or bought from other players.
