please keep in mind that this is an opinion, and read the whole thing before commenting ;-)
Everyone knows that wammos have been given a bad in-game reputation, because of people who play wammos like they're the energizer bunny.
I'm a big buff warrior, as long as my health holds up i'll be up on the front lines doing damage and conquering the enimy! my energy is full, and i only have 2 bars of regeneration, so the casters must have full energy! how much can one monk use? and besides i need to keep my adreniline level up! plus with my new sentinel armor i have 100 armor against EVERYTHING! i can survive even if the monk is telling the truth about his energy (which i know he's lying about!)
Warrior/Monks have been given a bad reputation because of behavior like this, not everyone DOES behave like this, but those who do give wammos a bad reputation.
now we have another melee class on the scene: the Assassin
lets first look at an assassin from a pvp point of view.
i'm a new assassin, i'll be ready to spike out a helpless person after he's taken a little bit of damage, because i do soooooo much damage in only a few seconds. "Ah! there's my target! a helpless monk!" shadow step, massive damage combo leaving a monk dead, and a few seconds later the assassin is back away from the battle. "woot! a flawless kill! even a dreaded warrior couldn't have killed him that fast!
assassins are great for waiting back a few seconds switching targets and then using a teleportation skill to zip in, kill a target and then get back out... and then wait for more prey. they have 70 AR, but that doesn't stop them from being good in pvp, as they're mostly on the back lines waiting for prey.
PvE point of view:
woot! i'm a new awesomely powerful PvE assassin! i can do sooo much damage to helpless monsters now! lets see... i need a party to go exploring....
a while later, after our "hero" has found a party...
awesome... i've got my new powerful party... betcha i do even more damage than that elementalist, and he's probably been playing as an ele for half a year now! and i'm fresh out of the charactor creation screen!
the group starts out, monk warning everybody that his energy isn't endless and that they should all be careful because there's only one healer in the group.
first mob of baddies:
the warrior runs in to take agro, the assassin haning back slightly, ready to dash in at a moments notice to finish off one of those baddies, suddenly the assassin is in FRONT of the warrior and all of the monsters (suprised at his apperance) agro on him and he's dead in a few seconds.
"WT* why didn't you heal me monk!"
"you dashed in out of my healing range and as soon as i got into range to heal you the monsters killed you and then agroed on me and i had to save myself, as you were already dead."
behavior like this (which is what we're seeing ingame lately) will soon have the assassin/anything looking just as bad (if not worse) than the typical Warrior/Monk.
so people of gameamp.... please think about your role as an assassin... not a front line melee fighter, but a backline stalker who waits for the oppertune moment.

I may be new to tanking, but I'm 90% sure that the party failures aren't due to me failing to hold aggro, but because the assasins all charge in ahead of me
Even when I say not to.
Even when they say "Ok, I understand."
's horrid.

Submitting as an article would be cool. I liked it. Personally, I really like my wammo, but I know how not to aggro everything and know when to run when things are going badly, probably because I made a ranger and necro before my wammo. I saw a lot of this during the preview events. Everyone was so excited about the assassins, that they were everywhere, it got annoying. Because they were doing exactly what you said, just going in like they were invincible, thinking they would disappear before they got in trouble. But it doesn't take more than 30 seconds to kill a guy, usually.

I actually disagree. When I was playing an Ass in the FPE, I realized within just a couple of battles that I couldn't survive in stand-up combat with anything very well (unless I used Shadow Form, but unless you aren't in battle anymore when that ends, you're dead). So, I used Shadow Form, Shadow of Haste, and then Death's Charge (I think that's the last one) to make myself invincible, teleport in, and then I hit my foes as hard as I could, then I used Dash to end Shadow of Haste when my combo was done and warped back out of battle. Wait for health to recharge, then repeat again.
I suspect that basically everyone who plays assassins will do this sort of thing because it's necessary for their survival. Those people who aren't bright enough to work this way (not that exact combo, but the warp in-hit-warp out sequence) won't enjoy playing assassins because they'll die constantly.
Think about Mesmers- Assassins are very similar to Mesmers in that they're both frail and strategically-oriented classes specialized in dealing with single threats. People who don't realize that their Mesmer is frail and designed to slaughter one enemy at a time don't enjoy playing them, so they don't. Assassins will be much the same way; people who aren't smart enough to play them will spend 90% of their time dead, get bored, and play something else.
There aren't very many noob Mesmers in the world for the same reason that there soon won'y be very many noob Assassins in the world; noobs will find them boring.

I hope so as well... Your concerns are one of the reasons I'm sort of GLAD I can't play GW right now (computer issues); I'd get so pissed off at all the stupid Assassins around that I'd just go crazy.
Again, though, I suspect that people who aren't very bright with how they play the Asses will quit in a couple of weeks and Assassins will become roughly as common as Monks are now (since there will always be new noobs coming into playing Assassins and good players will continue playing them as well).

Rogue,
I see your point. This last team I was in just blew it for me. I kept getting: "Oh no, an assasin!" in the team chat. Then both Assasins died and we got riticuled for it. The assasin is cool, but the armor sucks and you have to have too much of a support group for it to work right.
Don't think I'll delete my assasin char, but I am going to create a new monk, since they are so sparse.

As a class they aren't sparse, i see tons of 'em on line all the time. The problem is 80% of them are 55 bot monks. :o)
I taste like Peanut Butter.
I am one of the most blendable flavours; I go with sweet, I go with sour, I go with bland, I go with anything. I am practical and good company, but have something of a tendency to hang around when I'm not wanted, unaware that my presence is not welcome. What Flavour Are You?
