Maybe it's blasphemy to you guys, but I don't feel very villainous just running around on a bunch of islands. I guess I don't know how to describe it, but while the gameplay is fairly interesting, the scenery is a bit dull and the players are god-awful! I've never met so many dumb kids as during the first 14 levels or so in villains.
Sheesh.
Anyway, I guess I want to know what your favorite thing about Villains is (besides the ATs which are obviously better thought out than the Heroes. Maybe I just need to give it more time...

nope you will always have a bunch of stupid kids to weed threw.. the game is pretty simple and plays like a video game IMO.. find a good active mature guild and join them..
while wandering the streets have you seen people getting beaten up or a guy vomiting.. lol the Marcones put people in cement shoes hehehe.. the villainous part is more of the scenery than the actions..
I am really hoping for a good time with the Mayhem missions that are coming with I7.. the more stuff you break the more cops come out.. 8)..

It will probably take you some time to switch fully into the Villainous mode. I'm guessing all around, when I7 hits and you can actually do the mayhem missions, and really just blow stuff up, then you'll start to feeling a little more like a villain.
I also like a lot of the story arcs and plots they devised to send you on the road of the "Destined One." I've found now, after my 6th or 7th villain, that there are some neat little twists and extra story plots (depending on certain badges and requirements you pick up) that are very interesting as well. I still had trouble getting the Pirate badge...so, i guess I'll have to roll yet another to try to see what storyline Veluna(sp) has to offer.
I for one, enjoy the scenery more than CoH. It dictates the environment of a slum driven organization (with a couple of cool looking zones or areas within a zone that stands out with some nice scenery). I just wish one day, I can jack the hotdog vendor for a bite to eat...that would be totally evil.

I feel your pain but the missions that have you fighting Longbow or other hero based groups are cool. I especially like the idea of the Cape Mish by stealing a Hero's cape for yourself. I also like the overall look and feel of CoV from a villainous mood.
I very rarely find myself in a really competent mature team. Seems like late nights are the best though like after 9pm. If you play on Triumph look me up.

I've seen the "dumb player" factor quite a bit in both games (CoH and CoV), so I understand that idea. Usually there's a lot of them in the lower levels, less so in the higher ones. Also, certain servers tend to attract more "simple minded" people. The quieter servers tend to be less annoying, like Triumph. The people there are pretty cool. Virtue and Victory have also been pretty decent. Freedom and Guardian are two servers I've found to have a lot more 3|337 (elite) wannabes.

i play on protector and i have met some really nice ppl there i find some immature players but mostly they r good with the occasional jerk. If u ever play on protector look up my SG, Anarchy of the Dark Abyss. I have some really good team mates. If u want to join send a tell to Dark Shadow Flash and tell him that Panzer Faust told u about Anarchy. Or just send me a tell its Panzer Faust

Hey! I play on guardian!! what r u trying to say?
anyways, all games have some very childish ppl playing on them, and i must say that CoH has one of the best playerbases out there. CoV, however, i have met alot more childish ppl that feel like they can say and do whetever they feel like simply becoz theyre villains. villains dont care about other villains "feelings". But fortunately for the serious gentle luving nurturing players (snuggly), they often either lose interest in the game and stop playing at about lvl 25 or so (its so HARD to lvl at that stage!!), or they get told off by someone, or they get a taste of their own medicine and think "god.... that sucked.... wait, thats what i normally do!" then they fly right.
Just remember the golden rule: Do unto others, then run.

Well, Jorden, it all depends on what you think villainy is. Most people think that it is automatically "evil", but that aint exactly so. Originally, the term meant "villager" or a person of "low standing". Pretty much the wretched refuse of society. Not necessarily evil incarnate. The villain in you is what you make of it. Personally, I love CoV compared to the Hero side of life, but the backstory for my "villain" is not exactly "evil"; he's just a controlling sort, and I play him like that.
Now, to the issues you bring up in your siggy, if I may be so bold.
1) Oy! We have the most customizable character creator that Ive ever dreamed of. Sadly, I agree to a point; it would be nice to customize your individual attack animations, but with all the rest I doubt it is feasible from a programming standpoint.
2) I agree wholeheartedly. Those lucky Koreans with their standalone character creator. Which if I could send you a copy of it; I would. (You gotta be fast when these things hit the web) Sadly, it doesnt import your creations into the game.
3) Wish I could agree, but CoH/CoV is still one of the most reasonably priced MMO's out there (aside from Guild Wars, natch). Honestly, at the rate you play you are still only paying about 50 cents an hour per month. Not bad. Wish I could do that in a video arcade for that much play.
4) Agreed. It may very well happen in the future, but I'd rather see other things (QoL) fixed in game first. Best get a notebook (like I use).
Sorry, couldnt help myself. It's the first time Ive seen your siggy; I had to comment.
Oh, and :in a whiney voice: Rooooon?!? I play Guardian too :sniff:, and Im almost the nicest player I know. Well, there are all you guys here, but me too!! Sure we have those PK thugs in Heroes, and all the...okay, maybe I see your point. We night folk are better than that, as you said.

I recently played the 14 day free trial, and yes, I have to say I didn't feel very villainous. I didn't really run into any of the childish players that you mention, but they're out there. They're out there in pretty much any online game you play.
As a matter of fact, I started a thread very similar to this a while back:

I guess, when you look at the big scheme of things...you just broke out of "the joint". You have been out of the game for awhile and trying to figure out who the major players are. In order not to go back to the Zig or get buried 6 feet deep, you are being forced to learn how the game is being played. You have the luxury, because the head man, the head hanco, the big cheese, the big Kohuna have taken a fancy to your work in the past and wants to see how you handle yourself against the lower ranks. You are constantly being tested, and at times take up your own missions (newspapers) to get ahead. In the Rogue Islands, crime is very organized. Everyone knows their boundaries and their limitations. You cross the line, and you'll find yourself at the bottom of the foodchain really quick (look at the Ghost of Scrapyarders or the Ghosts in Fort Hades). In today's times, being a villain means having class, leaving your mark, being a very good student of the game. There is no room for mindless drones that can only blow things up and cause senseless havoc. In order to run the city, you have to know the city. Know who you can and can't mess with. Know how to have all the factions working for your cause without them knowing they are. You can't take a city over by sheer force, you need much more than that. These are the lessons that are being taught with the assignments you are given. Lord Recluse has zero tolerance for mistakes and mess ups. In short, you have to work up to becoming truely villainous. Doesn't happen overnight. Once you achieve your ultimate goal of backstabbing and treachery, and find yourself sole ruler of the Rogue Islands, then you can say...I feel really villainous!

This is what i have to say when i used 2 play this game. i ran into alot of players that had a description like "this is my son/duaghter character please do not invite" so it is 2 be expected to find young ppl playing. I found that the reasons u run into these players at the low lvls is simple they arent to great and have so much debt that they cant lvl. i havent had any problems with kids playing b/c i can normally tell whenthey r a kid(most of the time a hot headed blaster) so i tell them to stay around the defender or me since we have aoe heals. The problem that i have most is not with the kids it is with the ppl that have adhd i swear they do not shut up and like kill one group then the next and have the rest of the team playing catch up. or even better they like 2 aggro everything in sight.
i can say these things because i am kinda like a kid (only 15) and we have the dirtiest mouths i have ever heard. So yea when u start playing the earliest lvls have the worse players but once u hit about 24 and up everyone is great even the ones w/ adhd.

Young 2 me is like 7 yrs which i have ran into before and old is like 35+ which i have ran into a lot.
When i used to play this game i ran into some young kids that were playing hot headed blasters. If i do a mission with them they see me healing and follow me around and shadow me. i feel like a baby sitter sometimes. The players that i find the most annoting and worse r the ADHD ones. They never shut up and r always on the go. When we playing 2 do a tough COT missionand r stuck trying 2 make a statagy they r always the ones that never listen and right before we attack they say what am i doing again? or they will run in and aggro everything.
i am not old but young(15 yrs old) and the players around my age have teh dirtiest mouth and r quick 2 strike back at anyone who opposes them even though they know they r wrong.

As one progress, the number of immature and/or outright stupid players seems to drop significantly and it becomes a great deal more fun watching the enemies change from simple thugs to evil monsters. Also the missions in which one teams up with a boss or someone from a faction such as the Freakshow really seems quite villainous and nothing beats robbing a bank either. (imho)

Well, I just did a Mayhem Mission on Test, and to be quite honest, I didn't feel very villainous. Of course, all I had were some pistols, so having actual "powers" will probably be more fun.

Okay. After reading and posting my own thoughts, and reading some more; I have one question. What do you mean by feeling villainous? Seriously. Do you need to gun down the "hotdog vendor" to feel like a villain? Will crushing a building with your awesome powers give you a sudden rush of villainy? See that stoller over there? I bet there's a baby with a lollipop in there, and I'm a fixin' ta take it! Muahahaha! Would that give you that villainous-all-over glow?? Honestly, people: focus. What is villainy supposed to feel like?
If I sound harsh; I do not mean to be. I'm just wondering what is this villainy you think you should feel? Plase describe this thing to me. Can you describe it? Quantify it, and I'll give formulating an answer a shot. Until then, it just appears that you are unsatisfied with the game, and cant quite put your finger on why. That's fair, and maybe I could commiserate with you if I knew what we were disatisfied with.
Personally, I just enjoy the game for my own little reasons. Ah Hah! I am SELFISH, and SELF ABSORBED!
BOW TO MY VILLAINY!

I think the scenery is great and music does a good job of adding to the ambience of the game. I've only been playing and just recently started exploring Nerva, but so far my favorite area is Aeon City in Cap. I love the song that plays. Its perfect for flying and making you feel like you're truly powerful.
As for the immature player thing, well, you'll find that in every MMO. Thats one of the reasons that I don't play online games (whether its an MMO or a strategy game) Idiots exist in all age range, but I have to agree that majority is within the 11-17 year old range. I tend to do a lot of soloing because I enjoy rping with the few toons that I have and 3/4 of the time when I team up I get the hot headed guys who rush and aggro everything or the guys who can only talk about "how much xp they want/have," "how to min/max (yup a classic D&D term) thier toon," or just behave so annoying. But this still doesn't hinder from playing the game.
If you (or anyone else reading this thread) are ever on the Champion server, feel free to look me up. I have lv 30 mm (nec/ff) and I'm good with playing with mature teams. My villain is Commodore Hauss and my hero is Amirita (lv 12 healer).

I didnt feel quite vilainous b/c some of the contacts story lines were all about revenge and when they finally get their revenge(which u did 4 them) they end up saying they dont feel so fulfilled which leaves me saying wtf i did all this 4 nothing. But some story arcs r good even though it isnt about villiany like the ghost widow story about wretched which is my favorite one.
I think instead of facing off w/ another av we should face off w/ a hero or another villian not from a vilian group. This would help a lot.
We should actually have kidnap missions where u actually kidnap instead of leading them to freedom whihc doesnt make any sense. Besides those complaints i think everything else is villianous.
Oh another thing i think longbow raids would be cool. When a VG has enough ppl logged in their base could get raided by longbow instead i think this would be cool.

oh 0_o ! Didn't know about that. I DO need to play a little further in when I reactivate my account so I can see some of the really cool content. I guess I didn't like the islands so much because it's not very "city" like, but I do like the missions generally. I also like the newspaper missions since you don't need to run to your contacts.

Hmmm, I suppose I just had visions of hanging out in dark alleys and such. My only real dissapointment I guess is with the scenery. Plus there aren't really any citizens for you to interact with except bums and such. Where's the rich guy's mansion to break into?
