Attention AMPy Staff!

rpgsecrets02 keeps spamming ads at the forums! It seems that he creates new ID's everyday and spams more!
Can you do IP-Bans or something?
His guide seems like a pathetic scam and I really want to kick the twat in the head ><
Is there anything you can do to him?

If staff noticed before my best guess is he already got an IP ban.
Unfortunately most bots doing such advertisements are hosted under dynamic IP addresses.

You'd already have to do a DNS lookup on the IP of every visitor and even then there are simple ways to get around being recognised.

RE: Attention AMPy Staff!

I know for a fact that rpgsecrets has at least 20 different IP addresses blocked from this site from when I was staff and had the 'honour' of blocking him on a daily basis.

If you have trouble reaching staff concerning this, I recommend PMing them. It might also help to put this kind of topic in the site feedback forums rather than in catch-all General Discussion.

Hope this helps.

re

It seems that he keeps using the same name but adds a number at the end (like this one is 2 so I think it's the second one) so can you trick the bot by denying the names it is going to use?
Tomorrow he's probably back with a 3 at the end etc?
I hope you understand what I'm saying! :P

RE: sorry I realised afterwards that I put this at the wrong forums, sorry about that. :/

RE: Attention AMPy Staff!

Its pretty hard to permenantly ban someone unless they make registration accept on ISP email addresses( @comcast.net @AOL.com etc.), even then they can get multiple addresses from their ISP.

IP bans are virtually useless seeing as ANYONE who knows what their doing can easily change their IP. Even people with a static IP (which i have, being with comcast, and i know how to change it). I myself could easily make a bot that changes its IP after every spam.

I'm not trying to say that its pointless to tell the admins about it, its just harder then you think to stop.

EDIT: that could also work, banning names that start with "rpgsecrets". But it wouldnt be hard for him to change the name. One of the few ways to permenantly ban him, even with him changing his IP or name, would be to ban his ISP, although this would ban a lot more people then him. Theres ways to do that effectively without looosing too many people, but this is mainly a last resort method.....something I myself would only use if someone was causing damage to my own site and kept evading the normal bans.

I check the site feedback forum multiple times a day. So if you have problems like this, that is the best place to post them.

As for this spammer, we are trying everything in our power to get rid of them. Sadly none of it has worked yet. The IP ban isn't working b/c there are numerous people doing it from many different computers, and banning one just means the other people will post here.

But this is something we are looking into. These people are spaming us network wide, and it is really starting to get old.

RE: Attention AMPy Staff!

Heh, from my point of view, these spammers are extremely bad at judging markets. Most, if not all, of the people who post regularly here are solidly against scams/hacks/gold selling.

It may just be a situation of peer pressure/lemmings, but I have yet to see a recognized member of Amp even consider using their services.

And I don't know where he's posting, in the auction or whatever. But why don't you just put a word screen on the auction posts? If the title or description makes any reference to 'Hacks', 'Cheats', or 'Dupes', the request is sent to the staff for review. If I'm totally off base on this, just ignore me.

I think the idea is to get this "product" on as many sites as they can, hoping someone is dumb enough to go for it. Plus, the handful of times that I have seen it it has been for wow, so they/he/she/it/whatever is really dumb/badly programed.

Just my 2 cents.

RE: Attention AMPy Staff!

if you happen to come across one of these spammers the best way to get rid of them is to pm one of us. Oh and the reason it is still worth it for them to do all this work is that there are alot more users that don't use the forums that still use this site regularly and might read their post...sad but true.
