| Enhancing Cleric Spellcasting |

I'm considering getting an item with Superior Efficacy V on it and was just wondering if it would impact the spells of a cleric. The description for this is "Increases the damage of your 5th level and lower universal spells by 50%". Kinda vague huh? How about Nihil? Or Combustion? I know Nullification and Devotion work for clerics since they are enhancements I can take but the others just aren't very clear about who can use them.

When you look at the cleric spell list, specifically what school it is, universal ones would be enhanced. I don't think we have many if at all. I will take a look later tonight.

Looking at ALL spell lists there seem to be the following schools of magic: abjuration, conjuration, enchantment, evocation, illusion, necromancy and transmutation. Anyone know which of these is considered "universal"?

I had been wondering the same thing. Which was why I didn't answer your origional question.

Ahh but you see that is the crux of the situation.
Universal is a school of magic that spells like prestidigitation and permanency belong too. Others include Limited Wish, wish, and arcane mark.
Thus the effect is meaningless right now.
Hope that helps.

So what you are saying is that Superior Efficacy V is a waste of money right now?

As far as I can tell no spell is enhanced by this effect. Universal spells from the PnP version of the game are the ones I listed. Turbine might have others listed. I did not see one spell in my list that was divine that would be effected.
So in short, yes.

Sadly this is pretty much the same response I've gotten from the official forums. Considering these "buffs" (ie Nihil, Efficacy, Ardor etc) are very common on weapons and other items but no one seems to have a good idea as to who benefits from them or what spells are enhanced by them.
I have a 7th level cleric and I just rolled a wizard and I would really like to make informed decisions when buying these weapons. A search of the official forums only turned up speculation, guessing and a ton of people selling things with efficacy. I'll keep scouring the forums for some insight into this confusing matter.

As I've mentioned, no Divine spell is Universal, only arcane. But, in DDO no spells that I have or know about qualify as universal.
The original question was for his cleric, hence my emphasis on the divine portion. IMO, and my PnP experience, all my books i.e. research make this effect useless.
In the future maybe something comes out, but if you have one bank it, don't buy one.

It would make things a lot less confusing and have less speculation if the official site had the info on what school each spell was in.
But I wish you luck in getting some solid info on this. If you find anything please share it w/ us.
