Does Guildwars use Open GL or Direct 3d?
Also, if I change the anti-aliasing and ansiotropic filtering settings on my video card, do those settings override the settings in Guildwars?

To the best of my knowledge they dont. I have x8 anti-aliasing on my vid card and in guildwars i had to change the default of none to x4 (the max guildwars has).

Guild Wars uses Windows DRM and Direct3D. We've been poking the Devs to publish an OpenGl Client of Guildwars for some time to beable to play it under linux without wine.
The video settings are usually application controlled. Only change them if you know what you're doing.
