I walked into one when it first started, but got confused pretty fast and never tried it again. I have over 30 gladiators now, but don't know what to do with them or why I should even bother...
Any advice?

Well...I'm not sure if you'll find it fun. I think the first thing you should do is check out the PvP zones. If you like that type of action, but you want it to be more controlled, then the Arena might be your style. Otherwise, it's better to just mix it up in the zones.
We'll see if the Devs can come up with something that will increase how attractive it is to the average gamer.

You can call me a total noob if you like, since the highest character I ever had when I played made it to 21, but what are gladiators for anyway?

I guess you can make your gladiator fight for you in the arena against an enemy gladiator. Don't see the point though if you put your Skull gladiator against my Paragon Protector.

OK, I am a total n00b. Gladiators? Are we talking about the gladiator badges? I was talked into the arena just one time. I was me. I was not some other thing from my badges. So I'm confused beyond my ability to even ask something to try to figure out what you are talking about.

When you see that "gladiator unlocked" thing, it's because you can now use that type of enemy in the arena to fight other people's gladiators. I've never done it so I don't know much about it. Obviously, they need more content in the arena to make it worth it to people.

I think the best terms used to describe Gladiator matches was Pokemon battles. But throwing them into battle and using strategy to defeat your opponent is rather fun. I've had a blast in the few battles I've participated in. As for the other aspects of the Arena... I mainly use that to test builds in PvP.

Excellent - that comparison made me laugh - very very good comparison though.
No risk to you except your rating and you do none of the fighting yourself.
True Arena matches are just private PvP fighting....its just that simple.

Im not a big fan of PVP. Never have been, but like Midnight Rook said. I like to use it for testing my builds and find out where I need to make changes.
That and it is always fun to smack WarShadow around. *Hurry back Bud.*
It can also be a nice change of pace to just log on with some friends and laugh while you take turns beating the crap out each other.
I know there has been a few times the group I run with have logged on and play " Taking on the Tank". This is where Magdalen, a level 50 Stone/Stone Tank, battles us one at a time to see who can do the most damage. So far taking on Mags is like shooting a mountain with a BB gun. However since I do a lot of Knockback(Energy/Energy Blaster), I can throw her around the Arena. If she ever gets me with that big ass hammer Phase goes splat.
So it has its advantages. It just how you utilize it.

This is how I've heard it described also. I think the trick is to get the "best" ones to use in battle against other players.
