Do you enjoy the Gaile Chats? Like the info she sometimes gives?

The following qoute comes from another fansite I am on, so some may not make sense, Im not gonna edit any of it though.

I believe in being in touch, and I thought a visit from the show floor at E3 would be fun. You know, a "hi there" and "how's it going in game?" and "this is what's happening at the show." Frankly, I missed being connected with the players. On the other hand, if people are going to count smilies and thereby denegrate genuine cheerfulness (petty, much?), if they're going to assess every word for "lies," looking always through the glass darkly, and if they're going to act so intentionally unkind, we can stop. If people who spend hours on the forums daily are going to moan every time they think there's no information (even when there is!), and if that core group is foolishly going to expect new information every visit, we can stop. If groups are going to continue to spam their questions, and if individuals remain resolute to use the visits to put forth their petty personal grievances, we can stop.

We can stop, and by stopping, do what any other developer does: develop in a vacuum. And, you, as players, can have the about-zero input that you get with and from other dev teams.

But do consider what you wish for; for it may well come true.

And if that's the case, we'll all be the losers for it.

This shows that she can be worn down and recently all the nah sayers and the whiners, and all the other things people do to get on her nerves have been getting to her. I ask those of you that come to her chats, please show her respect, and understand that your question may or may not be answered, and that she tries to answer as many questions as she can.

She is our direct link to Anet for our ideas, suggestions, and other things, please dont let this go to waste becuase people think its funny to try to piss her off.

I have nothing against Gaile the person but Gaile the Rep has lost my trust and there is little she can do to get it back..

Still.. it's one thing to discuss what she says on forums like this and another to bash her right as she's doing it...

It's one thing to be upset when she says something and not appologises for it later and another to insult her to her face..

You dont have to agree with her, or like her.. but you shouldnt put her down for it.. at least not during her visits. Let her do her job and after you can discuss it however you wish. You dont have to agree with her either but dont yell at her during the chats.

Edit: As for the topic question.. i do respect that she takes the extra step to communicate with players although i sometimes question her motives for doing so.. But usually its just to give us a heads up..

It's only the occasional damage control that she has to run that i dont like about her.

She personally suspended me once :(

I had a name with "anus" in it (inside joke with a friend of mine) and i was talking during one of her visits. And then suddenly, i got suspended for a week.

Seems to happen to the reps who do this alot Major Nelson a few weeks ago said he was done telling us when stuff is supposed to come out on xbox live because something happened and the time line got messed up and his listeners got mad and mutinied. Gaile should have went and said high to him and see how he deals with the annoying people.

I totally understand what she means and says in that post. I for one love her visists. She gives out good info, plus she is there having fun while doing it, and I admire that. I can't stand all the people spamming their questions, even after it was anwsered, andthe all the people bashing her right then and there. I often try to stop it, granted I can't do much, but I atleast try in the chat anyways. Then I'm called n00b.. haha.. is great really. xD

But I do respect her for what she does, and I do hope she continue's to make visits. I understand if she doens't want to make as meany now, but I still hope she makes them. Her visits are fun and informative at the same that, and that is just great.

Like we did the ANet appreciation day, I say we do a Gaile Gray appreciation day. ^^ At the Temple of Balth so everyone can visit. :)

What I am going to say is probabaly going to anger some people on this forum, but I'm going to let it rip.

I undertsand his point in the thread, BUT his/her job is customer relations if he cant deal with then maybe the job is not for him/her. I have to deal with going into "customers" homes on a daily basis and have to deal with "annoying" people all time I dont have the option of just "logging off" at my job ( that is the profession that I chose...hint hint). I dont have a choice....its called a job. If Gaile is doing on his own accord, I highly commend him, But if its part of his job title then he has nothing to complain about. BTw, i don't recall EVER seeing anyone on this site ever complaining about her not showing up.

2nd thing that I will comment on, him shouldnt be giving out info, even a maybe on something if it isnt going to happen.....extra storage,characters changes,etc.
I'm still hot about the delay with the CE edition. She was point blank asked that saturday/sunday evening b4 it was released and told everyone that there wasn't a delay. Well, we all know that wasnt true. How do you not know that there was not a delay and you work in the cuomer relations department? They had to know weeks in advance that it was going to happen? Im not sure where the guy heard the rumor that asked the question. I found out monday morning by making some phone calls and broke the story on this site that monday evening.

I'm not flaming Gaile, but in the same token dont threaten me with "I'm gonna take my ball and go home" mentality.
I do enjoy the "updates" that she gives but quit complaining.
If i dont get the info from her...I can always get it from someplace else game magazines,gamesites,etc(just like i do for other games). That is just my opinion.....sorry I had to vent.

What can I say, no matter how professional you (and how much something is your profession), there are always many factors that influence you, causing you to like or dislike your job, etc...

In case of Gaile, I could very well imagine that even though she can try to ignore all the annoying and abusive comments that some absolutely retarded people throw at her, it does bug her.

Its her job, it doesnt matter how she does it to me...

But, I would like to know what is happening with the game, maybe just a message (WE NEED A MESSAGE SYSTEM!!!) or some info on the login screen, but she doesnt need to go to LA and tell people that she cannot give free ectos away 100 times... She should atleast stop answering the stupid questions people ask, half of her conversations i have no idea what they are because I don't know the question.

You're even lucky to get this kind of attention from the game developers in my opinion.

You take Gaile to much for granted, you dont see this sort of treatment in WoW, there all you get is a bunch of cryptic answers you can interpret either way on forums.

I can completely understand where Gaile is coming from , working as Site Manager here has caused me to have days where I get no enjoyment from being in game whatsoever, whether that be because of constant disturbances from site members asking questions that can easily be answered on site (not so likable but meh no big deal) or dealing with silly people who decide that really its not their fault they got banned from the site and I'm the baddy in all of this (which I obviously dont like) - but you know what? I expect that, it comes with the territory and I dont get paid for the pleasure but the pleasure is that I get to work on a fansite for a game that rocks with a community that rocks. Gaile on the other hand gets paid and should really expect it to come with the territory, I know I do.

I by no means would wish her to have aggrevations in game and I would sincerely wish that everyone would treat her with respect but with so many people there are going to be those rotten apples ruining it - we see it here often enough.

It would be crap for Gaile to stop visiting ingame and I would support a Gaile appreciation day, despite my moaning above I know I get alot of support in game from site members which can make my day, if she like the rest of us was having a bad day and needed cheering up then I would be happy to contribute.

I would hate it if Gaile stopped visiting and it would be a bad community relations move if she did IMO, like it would be bad community relations for me to point blank ignore everybody I didnt know ingame. She has more power than me ingame to ban, I can only ignore and most of the time thankfully I dont have to do that my disturbances can often be made shorter with a polite referral to the site :=)

Luckily we are blessed with a great community so most of my disturbance is usually friendly and fun, I do feel for Gaile but I also feel that its her job.

First, let's look at what Gaile does - his/her job is Customer Relations. That means that unless she's the MANAGER of Customer Relations, she pretty much get's fed whatever information the powers that be deem pertinent.

Now, Any customer service position is in the general suburb of hell, unless you love your job. As the saying goes, the customer is always right, (even when they're not).

Those kind of people take it from both sides - their bosses are never happy with their work, and the customers constantly complain. It takes a great deal of intestinal fortitude to do well in that position, because EVERYONE thinks they can do a better job, and are not quiet about their desire to prove it.

Personally, if this game ever got to the point of EQ or WoW, I'll stop playing, because that's part of what makes GW fun, that they keep on updating and listening to the players.

Try to lighten up a bit and give Gaile a break. She's doing the best she can.

For those who are going to tell me that that's her job to deal with all that whining, accusing, and nay-saying, I offer this challenge to you:

I want to see you do a better job.

Back at the Uni my job was, for a while, to monitor the network and make sure people stayed within their bandwith limit and whatnot. When they went over, i had to kick them off the network until their bandwith went back to a normal amount..which would then result in angry phone calls and threats. I had to sit there and take the phone calls and the yelling and the "i just went 1 Gig over my limit but i have a paper due tomorrow and i need to get online" and yes i did feel bad for them but it was my job.

When i was 16 my job was to be a customer service rep for a store..and if you want to know aggrivated people, there's where to look. I was yelled at and insulted on a daily basis. Sometimes i gave customers wrong information but i didnt get mad because they called me a liar for it.. i appologized, admitted to my mistake, and tried to make things right. See if Gaile makes a mistake she shouldnt get all defensive about it, she should just admit that she was wrong and then move on. There really is no need to leave a job or stop doing something because some people are mean... i mean that just says that maybe the job isnt for you. I do feel terrible that people would come in and insult her during her job but at the same time.. i was able to handle it because i knew it was coming.

I know i'm not the nicest person when it comes to Gaile and ANet but i do appreciate what she does for us and respect her for it. But respect has to be earned not given for free. Respect is earned through hard work and, above all, persistance. If someone quits because things get too hard then thats not a respectible trait. If someone stays despite the hardships...not THAT.. that.. is something worthy of respect and admiration.

i think some of you dont have realistic expecttions as to how jobs like Gail's work.

they do not have EVERY bit of information thats going on... and the developers will say things like "yes, we can do that" .. whcich is then passed on to us. then deep in the process something prevents it. it doesnt make it a lie... but you dont think the deveoplers are going to come out and admit they cant do something do you ? its easier to hang the PR person out for them.

ive worked with developers at length.. albiet in a different light... and they make alot of promises... then find that they either cannot, or cannot within the expected time frame.. complete the task assigned them. there are always those things that complicate the process

in other games weve been left in the dark.. in the so-called vacuum of no information.. and i assure you it is significantly worse.

i understand the frustrations... beleive me i do... butlets not kill the messenger. i highly doubt Gaile has everlied to this community. but has she at times perhaps not had all the info ? or fallen victim to over zealous developers that made promises they cant keep.... yeah, id buy that

either way, it is far better to have some information, then to sit inthe dark and wonder.

Arlic - I agree (esp with Im taking my ball away thing)

I would like to point out at this point Gaile and her visits are the only surefire way to get our thoughts across the Anet especially since they have no complaints e-mail.

I recently sent a question to support about Factions to which I received a response that basically said its not a bug not our problem, we have passed it on to the dev but thats it, oh why not post it on a forum, someone might read it.

Is it any wonder with customer service like that Gaile gets it in the neck whenever she appears.

I do not support or encourage foul language, abuse or anything else being thrown her way. As Community Relations Manager it is her job to manage community relations (unless that term means something else). If people are unhappy, she has to listen, and in return we should listen and hear what information she has to pass on.

No that note (was mentioned before) Gaile is not on the Dev Team, all her information is second hand and some will slip through, or be change by the time of print (so to speak).

All in all I and over the moon wth Gailes visits and I do not wish them to stop. We should all act respectfully toward her, not out of fear of her stopping but out of plain good behaviour. I think what would make life a lot easier for many people is if Gailes visits were not random events that if you happen to be there or know someone there you get to see. If they were organized, say every two weeks, people would know when they will get a chance to ask their questions and would not sit spamming the same thing in fear its the last chance they are going to get for who knows how long (ok the idiots out there will still do it but hey, thats what the big red ban button is for).
