| Curious as to what server people will want to go play on |
|
|
|
I know, my guild and myself will be making a large move over from EQ2 to a roleplay server on Vanguard when its released this winter. Was curious as to how many of our members would also be joining a rp server and how many would be going for a non rp server? Or if they have it on release a pvp server?
As far as I know, they havent released much info about servers yet. But of course, I will let you know when they do.

Count me out for PvP. I'd rather be RP any day.

Forgive my ignorance, but what makes a role-play server different than a normal server? I'm relatively new to on-line games and most of my experience is with CoH.
Deep into that darkness peering, long I stood there, wondering, fearing, doubting, dreaming dreams no mortal ever dared to dream before.

To the best of my knowledge, it's more like separate places. If you want to PvP, you would go to a certain town or arena. RP is were people congregate to form groups and play the game cooperatively.

Well the difference from a rp server and a normal one is mainly how people play their charcters. On a normal server, you may group with enemy players and such and never think twice about it. But on a roleplay server, you would be deciding things how your character would handle it. Sure grouping with the enemy could save you a few hours time looking for a group. But since your character would not do that, you would spend the extra time looking for other people.
When in groups, you would respond to people as your character would and such. Not saying you have to talk in old english or anything, but you wouldnt use L33T speak and such. No things like bbl or rdy.
Usually rp servers have alot more player held events. And gives you alot more to do, when you just dont feel like grinding or questing.
The average player on a rp server tends to be more mature, and helpful. Dont get me wrong, you still have greifers and such on all servers or drama queens and kings. But you usually dont have to deal with it as much as a normal server.
I have always found the community ten times better on roleplay servers. Even in guilds, it gives them alot more involvement. Rank structure means something. Backstabbing to advance is acceptable and fun even if you get caught.
When it comes to rp, you dont have to be a hardcore roleplayer either. I mainly do light roleplay and hardcore playing. But you will meet some who roleplay non-stop very hardcore and others like me, that want to see the game first, and then roleplay in my spare time. But on a normal server, you never see people hanging out at the tavern. But usually rp servers, people go there to tell stories, have duels, create their own in game plots and twists.
I guess I just look at it as getting more for the game I am paying for. Instead of being the same old MMO with a new name, you make it into a mini fantasy world. Where that useless game lore, people actually want to learn.
It does have some drawbacks, such as when you really just want to log in and get a raid done or something accomplished quickly, and people rp out the process and make it longer then is needed. But even that doesnt happen too much.
The guild I am in, Shadow Company, is a light roleplay, light raiding guild. Started out in EQ2, and we have been growing into other games. But will definately be going into Vanguard.

Nice explanation. It sums it up pretty good. The difference between a pvp and non-pvp server is clear and defined by rules laid down by the devs. A rp or non-rp server can only be enforced by the devs to a very little extend. They are not scanning every word players say and send in the rp-police. Big brother might be watching, but just with an half eye. Thus an rp server is just a title. And mostly a players enforced thing. Although in another great game in the making the devs are planning to really enforce rp-ing. Read about what we and the devs had to say about it in this Hero's Journey thread.
And to answer Salat's original question. I will definately be playing on the rp server. And it they have pure pvp servers, I will skip those, since they will probably be filled with the kind of players I rather avoid. However, if there will be a rp-pvp server, I will be there too.
Doh! I forgot to welcome Cillion. Great to see you found your way to Vanguard. Hopefully we will be seeing more of you around here now :)

Hi MaxiDB. Welcome to GameAmp. I have the feeling that the majority of the players will go RP one way or the other. Or maybe it is just that forum loving people and rp-ers have a lot in common. One of the main things to have fun rp-ing is a good, fun guild around you. I don't know if you already have a group of friends that will join you into vanguard. But if not, have a look in our Guild section. A lot of great guilds eagerly awaiting the release of the game have already registered there.

I'll prob follow me guild to a normal server. How I like to RP a dwarf, I don't think I could do it for hours on end lol. I don't care for PVP for I would rather help those around me than to stab them in the back, take their loot, and go off and look for a noob to kill over and over and over.
