Because of repeat questions regarding minipets being asked and answered a million times in a whole bunch of seperate topics I decided to make one topic where I list all the facts for everyone to see.
First of all let's have a look at what minipets there are, here's an overview:
There are two kinds of minipets differing in how they can be newly aquired:- Minipets received as a present for a character's birthday.
- And other...
There is only one minipet in the latter category; Kuunavang.
This flying Dragon is an extra for owners of the Guild Wars Factions Collector's Edition, a present added after the release as a compensation for late deliveries of GWF CE preorders.
Anyone who owns the GWF CE can aquire one Kuunavang on a per account basis - not on every character.
To do so, all you need to do is type the command "/bonusitems" in the chat.
This will place a present in your inventory that - when opened - reveals your Miniature Kuunavang.
Despite the fact that Kuunavang is green it's not nearly as rare as the other green Miniature, the Bone Dragon, for the simple reason that receiving a Kuunavang doesn't depend on any luck unlike the Bone Dragon which is randomly picked from a list of possibilities whereas there are no alternatives to the Kuunavang.
Now, let's have a look at the other minipets which are all birthday presents.
Every character on your account will receive a present in it's inventory when that specific character reaches the age of one year.
This present will randomly reveal any of the available minipets except - needless to say - Kuunavang which is not a birthday present.
Note: You can check the age of a character by typing the command "/age" in the chat.
There is a difference in colour between some minipets which indicates their rarity.
The Bone Dragon - being green - is the rarest of all minipets, followed ofcourse by gold minipets, and further down...
Not only is it less likely to get for instance a gold minipet than it is to receive a white one because there are less gold ones than white ones, but additionally the chance of receiving any single gold minipet is also lower than the chance of receiving any single white minipet.
These are two different factors both contributing to the rarity of the purple, gold and green minipet(s).
And finally some general facts about minipets:
Minipets do absolutely nothing more than follow you.
They ignore and are ignored by everything else in the environment.
This means the following:- They won't aggro any enemies.
- They won't participate in a fight - they don't attack, nor support with healing or whatever else.
- Thanks to the above they can't die either.
- Minipets can only be used in explorable areas.
- You do not lose your pet if you zone while it's running free.
- Minipets are tied to an inventory item and thus are fully tradable.
- You can only have one single minipet out at any given moment.
I'm pretty sure I forgot to mention some things so feel free to point out anything I should add.

One thing I wanted to ask/point out.
Is it true that if you have your mini-pet out when you zone, you lose it? or is it forever tied to your inventory until you trade it?

wow very nice linda! I could only find 1 little point i want to mention: You can have as many as you want in you inventory, but you can only have 1 minipet at a time aound you to show others.
(+ cred for you :) )
EDIT: not sure if you mentioned it, but minipets can only be used "outside" . They wont show up in a town or outpost

Lol, that's why I said "pretty sure", those two were going through my mind both as I was making the image and later when I got to writing to the post... I knew there was more but couldn't recall. :-)

You keep it, the minipet is just a model and a couple of textures, but it's tied to an inventory item, as long as you don't drop that item anywhere you can't lose it.

No, when you zone, the mini-pet get's moved back into your inventory, and all you've got to do is to bring it out again, simple!

In all honesty I don't have the slightest clue.
But I'm guessing no.
(Though, who would have a PvP char exist for a year with no reroll anyway? =/)

Just means to recreate the character for the purpose of changing 2nd prof, armor, and so on.
Nice job of consolidating info on mini-pets into one thread.

ahhh, kk, ty
and i have a reg player for all professions, so i dont see much need for a pvp'er... but i dont do it often, so maybe there is an advantage, idk...
AND, sorry JH, for getting sidetracked... all i can say is i hope the PvP characters get one, i could use 7 minipets :), unfortunately my nec is only 6 months old, the assassin... still a baby :S

Ehhmm... really, people don't care it's on GuildWars.com, people who look for it here want to find it here.
It's that way with any information.
A fansite is not just a page of links, all the submissions and everything here are about getting all the information on this site.
That it's somewhere else too... yeah ok so what.
Pretty much everything people submit or post here is already in GWGuru or GuildWiki or whatever...

So if I got this rigth...
You get a minipet ONLY by typing /bonusitems after one year of playing?
I ask that beacuse I started GW 2 weeks ago and I would like to have a minipet but not by paying 100k+ for it.

No... read that bit again ;)
The Collector's Edition Kuunavang is aquired once only per account by typing /bonusitems
The rest are Birthday presents, and you get them automatically in your inventory on the day, or the first time you login with that character after it's birthday.

I still say they should have done pets according to account age, not character. So I like to make alts, I've probably been through the prophecies campaign more times than I care to remember, I've had probably more than 30 different character and at least half have been lvl 20, I've been playing since before the game was released. So just because my oldest character is only 9 months old, I get nothing?
Wow, that sounds waay selfish there. Guess I'll shut up now and just go mope in the corner for 3 more months.

Maybe you could put at the top of the post that prices/trades and stuff should be directed elsewhere. I can just see this turning into a minipet trading topic.
Oh, and there may be a little flaw in the information. Unfortunately, I cant prove it very well...Unless you're intimately familiar with troll animations.
Mini-pets that can be knocked down in their larger forms (Jades, Charr, etc) can be knocked down by the monster-only skill "Giant Stomp." Before you ask me to prove this, I have a friend with a Jungle Troll minipet (I have a Kuunavang...she doesnt get KD since big Kuunavang doesnt either) that we just now took out into Snakedance near the beastmasters. It falls over when the use Giant Stomp. I have a screen, but since the troll is so small, its very hard to tell. I dont have fraps on this computer either, so I couldnt easily get a vid of it. Feel free to test it yourself.

No you can't because they don't "drop".
And there's no cheapest, the price varies per seller.
All white ones should be about equal in price, with minor differences.

i have a jade armor and just the otherday it got a weapon! its pretty cool. i just wonder if they will ever make it so that your mini pet can fight or help you in some way. do you guys think that they will every let your mini pets fight against enemies or even eachother?

Erm... iv seen Kuunavangs sell for more then Bone Dragons from my knowledge... the most expensive/rare pets are Mini Rurik and Mini Shiro. Hell iv even seen an offer of a bone dragon and whiptail for a Mini Rurik so im kinda, sorta, a little bit confused :s
Personally i dont like minipets and dont see any use in them at all.. they dont even look that cool, but thats just my opinion.
I think what would be useful here is a Price List of all the pets as opposed to pictures that could have just been linked from the GW site.
Just a thought
