Empathy/Psychic Blast Defender..any suggestions to train?

I've been having problems leveling since I hit L20. I think the main problem is I can't find any good teams to level with. Any suggestions to find a team?

Empathy/psychic, nice choices.

you should be very sought after in teams, just put in the chat box "healer lft" or something.

i reccommend every single power from the empathy set, plus tp friend, ur travel power (could just be tp), hasten for the RAs and AB (once u get it).

psychic blast, i personally prefer it when the defender isnt blasting all too much... ur supposed to be healin, ya know? but yes, u have still chosen a good secondary. slows the baddies recharge slightly, and no defense works against it. get ur first power, maybe ur nova at 38, and if ur itchin for things to do, maybe aim to give nova alittle extra oomph.

Welcome to Gameamp and welcome to the Empathy family. I have a number of Empathy heroes I like to play. As an Empathy defender, you are usually healing more then fighting but it is good to have a few offensive powers as well. At level 20 I usually have 2 or 3 offensive powers and the rest are to support the team.

I am not sure how you are currently using your powers, but I would suggest setting up some key binds to help. Key binds are basically setting up certain keys on your keyboard that will activate a power. For example: with my Empathy defenders, I have set up the number keypad for my Heal Other power when I am on a team. So, when I press the "1" key on the number keypad, my hero will target teammate #1 and then active Heal Other on him. This way I can watch the health meters in the team window and when one starts to drop I press the number keypad of the corresponding teammate, and hit them with Heal Other.

You can set this up by pressing enter to get into the chat window and then typing:

/bind numpad1 "team_select_1$$powexec_name Heal Other"

This will bind the "1" key on the number keypad to the action of targeting the first hero on your team and healing them. To set up the rest you would just type it again but replace the number 1's with 2. And then 3...so on and so on.

/bind numpad2 "team_select_2$$powexec_name Heal Other"
/bind numpad3 "team_select_3$$powexec_name Heal Other"

Of course you may already know all this, but if not this helps me speed of the dealing out of heals.

Also, I suggest (as others have said) you get Recall Friend from the teleport travel power set. Even if you select a diffent travel power, this benefits the team and makes it so you can teleport fallen heroes back to safety before reviving them.

To get on a team, I agree that if you put Healer LFT in your search description, you should get a lot of invites. There are nights when I don't get many, but for the most part, I get an invite pretty quick after I log on.

Hm. I haven't been able to find a team in days. lol

Maybe once summer vacation starts it'll get easier since the teens wont have school to go to.

I'll try the keybind thing, I didn't know how to do the keybind thing so that should help.

Most of my powers are for helping teammates, I have 2 from the 2ndary set:Mental Blast and Psionic Lance. I have TP friend and my travel power, Flight. I don't have Hasten yet but I was planning on getting that on my next level-up(level 22). I have Healing Aura, Heal Other, Russurect and Fortitude. I also have Health and Stamina from the fitness pool.

How are you searching for teams?

Are you just broadcasting that you're looking?

If find that really unreliable way of searching for teams.

Go to the Find menu and find a tank around your level that's already on a team. Ask him if he needs a healer. 95% of the responces I get is "Hell yes!"
The other 5% are people with full teams or on task forces.

OK, so, i am a little late on the post but, my main is a healer, and the easiest way i have found to get passed levels are:
A) Go to Peregrine and ask for a team shouting "healer lft" you will get a team in a matter of no time
B)As stated above, find a tank or scrapper, they will fall in love with you if you heal enough, and may cause future teamings
C) Team with friends or sg members, always helped me and gave me constructive criticism

Hmm, everyone took my responses away from me. Guess I should pay more attention, lol. Welcome to the Site!

My lvl 26 Emp/Rad has become more of a backup character for me (Oh, we need a healer? Just a sec!). But I do remember how hard it could be to find a team. My advice is this, instead of looking for a team that wants you in it, build your own team! That way you are more in control of how balanced and effective the team is. I find as an empath it is easier to look for a scrapper first, as they will need your heals more, and are capable of doing the necessary damage. Beyond a scrapper or two, a controller is very nice to have, as they can usually help with the buff/debuffing, as well as making less work for you, allowing you to use those wonderful Psychic attacks you have.:)

As far as a building an empathy defender goes, it depends on how you want to team. It is very possible to go with an all heal build, dipping into pools like Leadership to help with the buffing. However, empaths can also go with a more damage orriented build, by focusing only on the few required empathy powers, and then on damage. Just remember, defenders will never be able to do damage like a scrapper or blaster can, even if they do share some powers. Direct damage is not a defenders job.

i just made an empy psi blast last week, i plan to respec out all my attacks soon as i dont use them, speaking of respec, im waiting for coh to patch as its live, woooot. you know what i mean, finally, i can respec my main scrapper.,

Empathy/Psychic is a fun combo, I admit. Though I think Controllers with Empathy or Kinetics secondary can be more fun sometimes. Think Controllers are any easier to level?

i'd say they are easier to level than an empathy defender if you plan on soloing. but i'd say usually emp defenders are one of the easiest build to level because of the high demand. i really dont know how you are not finding teams. somethings are just a mystery.

computer fart, nice way to put it! My empath id lvl 32 and she's also psionic, and i find teams really quickly, i find that if you put your team finding thing on LOOKING FOR ANY then i get invited pretty fast, it also helps if you gather around lots of people and show off healing badges!!
