I tried Thang for a while but the people were hmm... well.. I didn't meet too many who I really liked a lot.. *grin*. I think it's improved now, due to promotion of some players to in-game mod. type people.. not sure, haven't really checked back properly for some time.. I love the graphics in it though.
They've got a couple of other free RPG games too: Deicide, and Oz.
Don't mean to hijack your thread but another I tried was Planeshift. You could just go off and wander for miles it has more of a community feel, with the potential for roleplay I think. The actual levelling process seemed rather painful though which put me off somewhat..
Anyway, sorry, just wanted to mention those, but I'll definitely have a look at Silkroad.
