Hi, first post on Gameamp :). Anyway, i am looking for a new factions green hammer called Vera. Its dropped by Jayne Forestlight in Eternal Grove Explorable. Basically i havent had much luck in getting the guy to drop it, and if anybody out there has it i would love to relieve you of it, and relieve myself of several thousand peices of gold :).
Now, i have many other perfect hammers, and in fact i dont really need this hammer. However, those of you who watched a TV show called Firefly a while back (and more recently a feature length film called serenity) will know that the weapon is named after a gun wielded by non other than Jayne.
As a fan of both the show and the film i find myself badly wanting this hammer.
My ingame name is Elenof Greenstone, contact me if you have it and are willing to sell, and we shall negotiate prices.
Becuase i feel that this thread is pretty much announcment of my intention to buy a weapon, i guess i should at least give it some use. So, in keeping with the theme, can anybody else name any other bosses or weapons which are named after something not related to Guild Wars. Jayne Forestlight and his hammer, Vera (although strangly, Jayne is a monk boss) are one example of a game designer paying homage, and i am sure there are more, but i cant think of any. So rack thy brains, and see if u can think of any more of these little easter eggs.

the other day i made an ele and realized that during the male ele dance, he does "the little kicks" move that Elaine did on the show Sienfeld. I love that show, so when i noticed it, i nearly died laughing

Actually the male ele dance was very similar to a dance performed by backing dancers for a group in Eurovision. Now, while i commend them from taking inspiration from GW, my eyes wish somewhat that they had taken some other inpiration. Looking back at Eurovision, Lordi, the hard rock winners of the ridiculous competition held a distinct likeness to that of the afflicted.
Could it be that Eurovision and Guild Wars are somehow tied, and is this possible the worst conspiracy theory since 'The president is a Communist'
For those too far west to be hit with Eurovision, count yourselves lucky, and at the mention of the word lock your TV in a seperate room of a seperate house, preferable in a seperate state.
Anyway, back to Guild Wars (beleive me, Lordi is a far worse fate than Afflicted) i knew about the Ugly Stick, and for a while it was my must have weapon. Then i saw the stats, and they are rather Ugly as well. The ogre slaying knives, i do have, and i know a part of the backstory to them. Of course GW also has numerous cultural references as well, especially in relation to Eurovision. *notes to self that must ask Gaile about possible alliance with Eurovision, and whether this would be a greater threat than the Lich and Shiro combined*

How about Ellie Rigby in ascalon?
I assume its hommage to the Beatles, and the song Eleanor Rigby.

Ahh yes, i just remembered another one. Not sure how true this may be, but the Luxons may be named after a race from Farscape. Both are tribal/nomadic peoples, with a sense of survival of the fittest. Certainly i would not be surprised of the 2 are related, as there does appear to be a fairly large amount of references.
Another more obvious one may be Kilroy Stoneskin in Sorrows Furnace, who runs into the battle screaming KILLLROOOOY STOOOOONSKIN. No points for guessing what that is from.
On an almost unrelated note (although it does tie in with the GW conspiracy story and the WoW comment above) is this little nugget.
lets not start a debate, but it its quite funny

so what are GW saying. Do luxons really travel at the speed of light, becuase although those turtles do seem to move at a surprising speed, the speed of light is pushing it. Perhaps more importantly, are we being told that Luxons are not in fact people, but particles? wierd.

Didn't see whether or not this has already been said, but the ele spell "Ride The Lightning" takes its name from a Metallica song.

VERY obscure reference indeed.
Hmm.. I've seen some Signs around here in Denmark with the text: "Kilroy Travels"
I've never heard of that, but i immediatly thought of Kilroy Stoneskin and images of screaming pilots started popping op in my head.

If anyone has ever played shining force for the genesis, during the dragon festable there was a reference. hanzo and mushashi were both secerect charaters near the end of the game.
Maybe the folks at A-Net are old school RPG fans

Bonetti's Defense is one. It references, as was said, the Princess Bride (specifically The Man in Black's duel with Inigo Montoya).
Farrah Cappo in Ascalon (Piken Square) is a reference to the same scene.
Most if not all of the Warrior Shouts are a cultural reference to one thing or another. "None Shall Pass!" references the Black Knight sketch in Monty Python and the Holy Grail. "Victory is Mine!" references either the Black Knight sketch or Stewie from Family Guy. "For Great Justice!" references the All Your Base Are Belong To US phenomenon. "To The Limit!" is probably a reference to the fghgwgads (did I spell that right?) from homestarrunner. "I Will Survive!" is a reference to the song of the same name.
The Ogre-Slaying Knife (it's got a +9 against Ogres!) references the Dead Ale Wives' D&D skit. So do The Darkness which drop them (I'm attacking The Darkness!).
Kilroy Stonekin is a pretty obvious one (Leroy Jenkins if you wanna look this one up).
Hmm... Let's see... Other ones... I'm not thinking of any more atm, but there are a LOT of things from internet geek culture in GW.

Luxons....were they not a species of warriors from Farscape? All coloured and hippy like. I know the guy had tenticles hanging off his face but I see a resemblence.
I still giggle at Trogdor....burninating the land!....heheheheh

I think the dances all have their own little stories behind them.
Male Ritualist Dance=Napoleon Dynamite
Male Warrior Dance=Pulp Fiction
