RE: Which profession is better?

If you are a nuker I would choose Mesmer for the echo and arcane echo skills. It duplicates the last skill you use. So you can send away 2 meteor showers for an example. With arcane echo and Glyph of renewal you can send away 3 showers in notime :)

I am currently Ritualist as second profession on my ele, only for the flesh of my flesh skill. I am sure there are some other use of it. But my nuker build works well as it is =)

Edit: Is Ele your main profession btw?

I assume you mean your first profession is an elementalist? If so monk as secondary is quite good

RE: Which profession is better?

I find mesmer the best addidition to ele. Not only for echo as ethelion pointed out, but also if you havent capped elemantal attunement yet, you will have better possibilities for energy management.
Either way; 2ndary profession is very taste specific. What one likes or needs is not necessarily a good choise for someone else. What i recommend is trying the several professions. Itll only cost 500g once. After that you can change as many as you want, and see what fits your needs.

Ah, if you are a ranger, I would be a monk, so you can heal yourself and res people. I find that very useful, since my ranger usually is the last one standing :)

Won't a rutualist be better? Becuase they can heal and res people and... they can attack enemies... with spell.

R/W doesnt really break the chain, it is usually either R/Mo or R/W out there.

i agree with R/E, i used to be that using conjure blablabla for additional damage.

RE: Which profession is better?

All secondary professions are good for a primary ranger and the choice depends on what you want to do (and nothing prevents you from trying several secondaries and finding out which one you like best). To begin with your current secondary, a R/E can be an extremely effective damage dealer when armed with Barrage and Conjure Flame. A R/Mo makes a good beast master, you can heal your pet or smite by proxy. A R/Rt is most likely a spirit spammer. A R/A is the keenest, most slippery runner or the most fearsome ninja you'll ever encounter. Don't even start with R/Me's, they can be just about anything. A R/N is a real PITA for the opposite party, especially the touchy-feely variant. A R/W may be a bunny thumper or a ViM trapper.

When considering different options, remember that a ranger is not a caster. The energy pool is shallow and the regeneration only 3 pips instead of a caster's 4. Ranger's Expertise makes non-spell skills cheaper to use, so when browsing through the skill lists think first of all whether you can afford to use any particular skill.

And BTW, with the current balance of skills, the most powerful elementalist is not an E/Me but an E/A. There exists a build that has roughly twice the destructive potential of a renew nuker.

Your profile says your 12 or something around that-if true you were up to late-you need sleeep for school in morning-hahaha

I wouldn't worry to much about picking a second profession and sticking to it-I change my seconds all them time!!! Someone in chat said that it cost 500g to change sec in factions if so then giving more thought to it makes sense-otherwise try them all!

Being a monk is always a good safe second profession though!

as was mentioned above, your energy pool is fairly low, and I find with my ranger, i cant equip enough ranger skills that i want anyway, so 'likely' you will find yourself carrying only 1 or 2 secondary skills, especially if you take a pet.

RE: Which profession is better?

Yeah, it really depends on how you play and what skills you want to bring. My ranger was a monk secondary for res only. He had 7 ranger skills and res sig, so I decided to change to monk to replace res sig with a reusable res. Alternatively you could do the same with ritualist, which I recently did. I changed to R/Rt for one of the weapon spells and because I can still res without res sig.
