Here's something I noticed, Iw as doing the quest "Unwelcome Guest" and came to fight the monk boss right at the end (was henching it so I had 60DP by this point) anyway I'm playing an assassin so move into Melee range and see
-48 (Balthazar's Aura)
with 12 smiting prayers this skill does 22 damage per second. You would need smiting prayers of around 24 (a guess) to do this kind of damage. I accept bosses should be powerful from a level 19 boss this is just plain wrong.
Edit: Anyway I want others views on this, hope it doesn't sound too ranty with it being here in general discussion.
Edit: from levels 0 -12 the damage goes from 10-22, 1 pt per level, so to get 48 damage that would mean level 36 smiting prayers.

I thought I read a tread somewhere that said that all bosses do double the damage of a normal creature...
Not sure where though, gonna look for it

the funny thing is that normal bosses are kinda hard to fight, while Shiro, THE boss of factions dies in 30-60 seconds...

This is a common topic in factions; not even bosses are overpowered, 'normal creatures' are as well. If i do 47 max damage with my assasin at lvl 14, and when im hit i see -80, something is out of balance...
necromancer all the way

what sux is that with the monsters being over powered as they are and the lack or players in certain areas to make a real team, it almost forces you to either be a monk or bring a good one along..If you arent atleast part monk or rit and you have to use henchies then your pretty much getting a good bit of dp no matter what...Cause we all know those henchie healers are crap

I do play PvP as well as PvE, there is nothing wrong with enjoying both. Though I expect both to be challenging I think it should remain challenging without making some creatures over powered.

Yeah ur right, i enjoy both too... although i prefer pvp over pve anyday. iv said it before i think factions is easy anyways.. if it makes u feel any better just imagine the lvl 19 creature a lvl 30... that doesnt make him overpowered just a higher level then you ;P

Or Argo (Boreas Seabed Pyromancer Boss) casting Meteor Shower twice as fast dealing twice as much damage?
I DO aswell believe that Cantha Bosses are way too overpowered... Argo as an example taking down an entire team all by himself is truely ridiculus, let alone that additional 100 dmg he deals when using Argo Cry...
I have a similar Theory:
~Twice as much Health
~Twice as much Damage
~Twice as much Armor
~Twice as fast (refering to casting)

Dk 1 was fun for a while but once u lured a reaper and managed to torture a hero onto ur side, u kinda became invincible

lol, i thought i just got lucky in my group... :-)
we had 2 rangers, 2 assassins, a henchie healer, a monk, an MM and me (w/mo).
the mm only had his fleshie up, and we beat the snot out of old shiro... took about 1 minute. I have a feeling Anet is going to beef him up a little.

I decided to skip whatever the hell anyone wrote after the third post seeing as how it gets off topic like it usully does. In any case ill address the boss thing. Basically what anet has done to make bosses much harder to solo is to give them double of everything. Double hp, double mana, double attributes, sometimes even seemingly double inteligence. Also they have double the casting time. A good example of this would be when i went to go cap Triple Chop, for the life of me i couldnt figure out why i couldnt interupt his healing sig...low and behold upon closer inspection i realized his sig was activating twice as fast.....

Hm, yeah you got a point... seeing as Cantha bosses drop greens it does make them harder and in most cases impossible to solo. +cred

I will agree with you tho dragonuisx. They do seem a lil overpowered at times....theres an ssassin boss near the underscity and he kicks my a** with the iron palm elite or whatever it is he carries. it does on occassion 150+ againt my veteraned tyrian 15k plated warrior....

It's not a question of whether the game is easy or not. I think it's more a matter of justice. I personally would rather see the bosses have higher levels to account for the skill increases then have them to just skip the rules altogether and make up numbers.

On some levels of thought i agree and on others i don't agree. I think it depends on how you look at bosses in general.
On one hand that says they need to account for the points you may look at it as higher stats SHOULD = appropriate high level, thus justification for double of dmg, hp, casting activation, etc.
Or, on the other you can look at it as, these are creatures which have surpassed the common limit of their counterparts, not only allowing them special names and auras but allowing them to surpass regular expectation and thus surprise you with their strength. In this case the lack of level increase to coincide with their strength is justified.
Again i think its just how you look at it. You can look at it from the numerical viewpoint, or you can look at it from the boss merit and actual fantasy perspective.
For example looking at it from a numerical point youd probably be a perosn who would "envision" gw as being a real life simulation play game, everything must balance out and have an explanation that can quantitatively explained.
On the other you can, as i said before, look at it from the "fantastical" point of view (when i say fantastical i mean fantasy realm aspect). I see a character that for whatever reason has earned a NAME for itself to seperate it from the norm. Not only that but he exudes an aura about him/her that foretells strength. Now from previous experience (GW:Prophecies) seeing as he's a warrior boss, ill automatically assume hes a meleeist and should be relatively easy to take down. Upon reality of our fantastical world tho i sorely underestimated him. Although his level bellies that of a normal attack range and strength range, upon fighting him i find that, quite to the contrary, he is in fact a BOSS, and what i expected is complete rubbish.
Personally i prefer looking at it from the fantastical perspective, makes things more interesting IMO.

From an old retired DM I can definately understand the fantasy aspect, but if parts of a story don't mesh with other parts of a story it tends to fall apart. At least for me, it makes it harder to get into a story that isn't consistent within its own rules.

Incorrect, read the table and explanation below.

You haven't taken in consideration the fact of armor.
60 is 100% of the damage listed by the skill.
At a 60DP you have lost health, energy AND armor.
Look at the chart above.
You should be taking around 183% damage.

Well, I was running around with my necro who was 1k away from survivor and then this assasin boss attacks me. When he's almost dead, he runs all the way up to me one aggro circle away and blows up dealing 400 dmg... That really sucked.
Oneill: Lose it. It means, go crazy. Nuts. Bonzo. No longer in possession of one's faculties - three fries short of a happy meal - WACKO!

Balthazar's Aura is Holy damage and ignores armour. I was unaware that DP damaged your armour though.

Well
Thats incorrect to.
Holy damage does not ignore armor.
What it does do is cause extra damage to certain kinds of foes like the undead.
A skill will tell you if it ignores armor in GW.
If you have a monk try using bals on a number of different levels of foes. You'll see that the damage varies accordingly.
It isn't always what is listed as the damage states.

Looking for the right answer..
The easiest is to say it's variable.
I just tried minotaur in Elona and Losaro( equivelent ) In Borlis Pass, both received 26 damage per second.
However other foes take damage at a higher or lesser rate.
I'm looking for a list now.

Thats correct, i tried smiting off my Flesh Golem Yesterday (lol) and it didnt give full dmg (which was 17), actually it got subtracted by armor protection. (giving 10-15, 8 in some cases).
