Alts in SG's?

I read in the Gameamp Alliance thread that we aren't taking alts in the SG right now. This confuses me and this is why. In Guild Wars, you can have a guild of 100 people, but when you add a person to the guild, it assigns their one character to that guild, as well as every alt they have on the account, while still only taking 1 of those 100 guild slots. This is how I'm used to it working. Now I've kinda gathered from things I've read, that you can have a different SG for each server. After considering the comment that we won't take alts into the SG right now, does that mean that we could conceivably be a part of 1 SG per character slot per server? In my case, with my CoX account, I could be a part of 12 SG's per server then if that were true. Maybe somone could explain to me how joining a SG applies to all the other alts on the same server? I'm a little confused.

RE: Alts in SG's?

Hello

Simply put - each ALT is a unique and wholly separate entity - it may or may not join the same SG as your main.

This means as a CoX person (both Villains and Heroes) with one NCSoft Account you could be a member of 240 SG memberships on the US servers alone. Or, you could have them be members of just one SG that has a base on each of the 10 servers on each CoH and CoV sides meaning 20 SGs.

I like this better than one bulk member ship as I have different friends and SGs for different Heroes.

Del

Yes this is exactly correct.

Right now we are not taking alts into the New SG because we want to make sure everyone on site has a chance to get invited. After a duration of time we will start allowing Alts in the SG if there is room.

RE: Alts in SG's?

I am not familiar with how things work with Guild Wars, but from your description, SG's work a bit differently in CoH. I believe the limit to an SG's membership is 75, and each hero is unique - not tied to the player. So you can see why an SG could begin to fill up rather quickly if everyone had multiple heroes as members.

This is true, it could fill quite quickly... Lets assume each person has 12 alts. That times 6 = 72. 72 + 3 = 75. So, depending on how you mix and match it, a full SG of 75 could be anywhere from 75 different players to 7.

Hmm, it would make more sense to me to have every alt on the server attached to the SG via one toon, but I can see how having the freedom to join one toon per SG could be nice. For me though, I think I'll try to stick to one for now. :)

RE: Alts in SG\'s?

I can see the logic in both SG methods, both guild wars one account, one group which my flat mate plays and the CoX method which we both use.

However, just a suggestion as a random additional group... a GameAmp-Alts group. This way if one of a players alts becomes their main, it would make an easy changeover? This would mean someone would have to boss the second string but still. hehe...

Also on the ponderance of SGs. will anyone ever start a euro arm of teh gameamp group?

(If not, Acolytes of the Phoenix @ Defiant will have u! teehee!)

Oh, Hello Mr. Jurassik! Sorry about that arrow, it wasnt aimed at you. I'll just be on my way now... *flees*

A noble offer, but until the SG reaches the 75 mark, no one should have to even consider this.

Just to estimate by the number of mains getting in, there will probably be room for alts at some point. Considering how many people frequent this site, it will probably be a good idea to see how many Ampers we get, and that could take a little while.

This is also what's going to happen:
There will be pick ups along the way that do not post here. They are going to get on a team with heavy experience and find out how much fun the game REALLY is, and want to be part of an SG that knows how to have that kinda fun. Thus, they will come to GameAmp, sign up and new posters will start joining us as well.

This will also swell the ranks a bit. Once the word gets out about how the team play is with this crew, other players will begin to search you out. We at TWWP do not recruit. It's all word of mouth from the Liberty gaming community. At times we get 3-5 applicants a month, and then again sometimes none. Over a 2 year period, that's a lot of new players potentialy in the SG.

RE: Alts in SG\'s?

I noticed the SG roster the other day, it's filling up nicely. There was mention before of alternate SG's for alts and SG's for different levels.
So, here's an idea to allow for alts and coalitions and other various situations..
What if 'The Gameamp Alliance' was a mega-supergroup comprised of Five smaller ( not 7, why in a minute.. ) Supergroups...
Granted, this means starting a few things over, but it's early in the life-cycle still, so it might be worth it.

What if we were to have AT specific groups ;

The Gameamp Defenders
The Gameamp Blasters
The Gameamp Controllers
The Gameamp Tankers
The Gameamp Scrappers

or
The Gameamp Alliance : Defenders ( and so on.. )

Peacebringers and Warshades can join whichever group best fits their playstyle..

Then establish coalitions accordingly.
Seems lke a lot of work, actually, would be a lot of work to maintain, and if there is preference over any particular AT then the others may fall short.. A lot of potential drawbacks, but overall, a possibility. This would allow for a much wider population base, plus allow people to play maybe a couple of their favorite alts for variety, etc..

Anyway, figured it might be worth mentioning..

I thought I had replied to this, but can't find it.

Right now we don't have the numbers to manage any more than one SG. I've seen this multi SG thing kill a lot of other fledgling SG attempts. If we are ever going to have a base in a reasonable ammount of time, we need to focus on 1 SG right now. Until the main SG reaches a full point, it's just not a good idea right now. I know this more for fun than seriuous prestige farming, but with the players we have in right now, if we stick to one SG, the prestige will flow faster than you think, and we can have hazzard zone teleporters and the early level features that make them improve travel times accross the zones.

We would probably be better served to find out who the good SG's are on this server, and think about whom it may be a good idea to coalition with.

Is this anyones long term home server? We could use some information about who is who on this server. Who the good guys are...... and who the bad guys are. There's a reason most of us prefer to post on GameAmp.

I know the Veggie Meddley was here. Probably a good first Coalition SG. It could also take care of some of the alt problems, their leaders permitting.

Who here knows the player base on Triumph? We really could use some information.

You can't take a group of premier players like this and funnel them into one server together and not get noticed. You had better be ready for a flood of applicants once the word gets out. Knowing a few people on this server that have been here for a while is going to be important when that happens.

I've been running an SG for over a year now, I know what's going to pop up after the newness wears off, and we just get down and dirty, level cranking, tear assin' accross this server. We've got a very strong core. This SG could go the distance if we don't fall into some of the traps that knock out 90% of all SG's that start up. IMO, and from experience, I believe we need to keep that core nice and tight in one SG until we out grow it.

RE: Alts in SG\'s?

Hello all.
Thunderpants has some great points. I can tell you I am here right now because of some of the things that were mentioned. I heard about Gameamp Alliance from a friend of mine who said the fight with Paladin last Monday was a blast. I have now made an account and will be making a character on Triumph in the next couple of days. So word is getting out and the numbers will increase.

I have most of my characters on Freedom and my SG let itself spread out to about 6 different groups. They tried different SGs for different level ranges and also tried the all arrow SG. But all that realy did was spread the SG too thin. We ended up consolidating to two SGs. So it is a good idea not to start making more SGs until the first one is full and strong.

I look forward to meeting all of you in game.

I always do a bit of passive recruitment to Gameamp. My LFT message is always "cityofheroes.gameamp.com". Makes people ask questions and send tells occasionally.

*EDIT*-ed b/c I couldn't get the URL correct the first time

What Voltech didn't tell you is that he is the one that got me hooked on Gameamp in the first place. So you can blame him for having to put up with me. He got me the game for my birthday last year and said to check this website, Gameamp.com, before I got the game to learn about it. I haven't looked back since. I am working on getting another friend into the group too.

Voltech and I are in the same SG on Freedom and it is pretty much dead because we spread out too much. Even since we have consolidated down to 2 groups there isn't much point. I haven't teamed with anyone but Voltech and another college buddy for months. About a third to half of the members haven't logged their toons on for 3 months or greater. A good number for 6 months or greater. I agree that we will grow and may have to expand, but I think we should keep try to do what we can to keep it a managed growth.

The best thing about the SG is the forums. We are in constant contact with each other. I love the support, the friendliness and the overall blast I have with this SG. If there was toon transfer I would get my lvl 30 defender (main toon) over here is a second to get him in this SG.
