Quick question about the updater

Is anyone besides me getting extremely long connection times for the updater? Mine stays on "Connecting #1" for like 3 minutes and sometimes goes to "Connecting #2" for 1-2 minutes. Then the "Requesting Patch" and "OK" part takes about 2-3 minutes. Anyone else having/had this problem? If you had it and got rid of it, please share how. lol

Seriously. XD I just tried the test updater and it works in like a split second. I'm not getting ANYWHERE with the live one now. It just got up to Connecting #4 >>;

Could it be related to the volume of players right now?

As long as I get in, a couple minutes doesn't freek me out. If it starts sticking for a long time though...

I had this happen to me last night as well. I just walked away and when I came back I was at the screen where "NEXT" is an option. I didn't pay attention to how long that took.

I've seen a couple of very bad latency issues. Global is offline when you log in, the train got stuck in the station in Talos, and we had to wait 5 minutes to get the hand clicky to show back up and let us on.

This screams memory leaks.

There are also a lot of players getting on to download I7 still. That could cause the first really slow countdown because it has to check the updater before it fires the game up to verify you have the correct version. Once the influx of downloaders subsides, this may work itself out. If it's still a problem in a day or two, you'll see devs responding to a problem.

This is really not the right place for this but since it was mentioned here I'm toing to bring it up.

Have you all noticed that just getting the blue hand is a nightmare? It seams in places you need it the "area" you need the cursor is getting tinny. Getting on the train or into (for example) the hollows has become 15 seconds of fishing around for the right spot. That may be relatively short but it is driving me crazy while I'm having to do it.

Report any issues you have to NCsoft support. This is the only way they know something needs to be fixed.

While in game /bug anything that needs to be fixed or looked at.

They need our feed back in order to catch the little things they missed.

Well I thought that it was people downloading I7 but...I've been having this problem since a couple days before I7 went live. But I think it must be people downloading cause like I said; Test updater runs perfectly.

you freakin serious?? i bought the game a few days ago and tried downloading it today, i made the play NC account and credit card EVERYTHING. when that was finally done i clicked the COH icon to play the game. It took me 2 seconds to get to the updater. Yeah well the updater takes like 3 hours and i stil havent got a chance to played COH yet. It's FRUSTRATING! I guess it's because it's my first time trying to play the game, i have awesome internet connection, anyone have any suggestions?

Regardless of your internet connection, if the traffic for NCS's side is high it will be a slow connection anyway. My connection is about 5mb/s and sometimes I download stuff really quick and sometimes I don't. It all depends on the traffic at the time.

I was experiencing some global issues this evening. It's actually the first problem that I've had since I7 went live. It's taken me a little longer to get to the next button on the updater, but I normally blame that on player activity. There have only been 3 or 4 servers in the green since release.

9:30am est Saturday - all servers DOWN

maybe they had as bad a night as I did last night 3 toons, 3 different servers, 3 totally different teams, excepting me of course, nothing but debt

four hours not a bit of fun in there, laggy, glitchy, maperved, logged, aaaaaa - maybe you should move this to the rant section......

lol - btw servers are all down ;-)

Ok just disregard that last one - i was frustrated.

Here is how you BYPASS the updater when you know you have the current version and just want to play. The delay is caused from "somebody" or a few thousand of they actually downloading I7 while you just want to quickly check your version and play....

PLEASE READ ALL BEFORE DOING ANYTHING
No matter what, you must update to Issue 7. If you haven't, bypassing the updater will only produce a wrong version error upon login.

To bypass the updater, create a shortcut to CityOfHeroes.exe (not the updater). Right click the shortcut and click Properties. In the Target line, modify it to match this:

"C:\Program Files\City of Heroes\CityOfHeroes.exe" -project coh

Well, it seems the servers are still down. Wonder what they're doin in there...

I wonder if this has anything to do with it?

When I checked there's 2 routers in texas that seem to be having a bit of trouble. Isn't Dallas where NCSoft is located?

I know this works - I know at least 3 people using this every day (except when a d/l is required). The only time we use the updater is when we log in and it tells us we are using the wrong version. That simple.

Three thoughts:

are you sure you made a shortcut and not a copy?
are you sure you modified the "target" line?
are you sure you are working with CityofHeroes and not the updater icon?

it does work, but it appears thay have released a patch this morning. Virtue, and two other servers are up right now.....but you need the patch. :(

This is rediculous, the first time I try to play COH, it takes 7-8 freakin rediculous hours just to get in the game.. and I quit guild wars for this?!?!?I don't even know if im going to play COH anymore

But before you decide to not play, at least get into game, and create a character. Trust me, it is worth the wait.

And just FYI, when you get a game that is Pay to Play, you shouldn't put in your payment info before you get all the patches and everything downloaded. You can download the patches with out having your account active. And if there are any problems, it means you are loosing any time from your free month.

You may have to pay a monthly fee but if you buy CoV as well the monthly fee is next to nothing. Just be patient and deal with the problems at the moment. Jeni is right, this is like the worst time possible for a new account as they just released Issue 7.

If you go completely stir-crazy, just let the patches download while you sleep. For me the patches didn't take that long 'cause I came in a couple months before Issue 7 was set to be released. Everyone already had the Issue 6 patch.

This game is well worth the wait. Once you play, you're hooked. Although I must say CoV is insanely unbalanced to CoH. :P

I know coh owns guild wars... im just mad because the stupid wait. I could care less about a monthly payment.
I left the download on alllllllllllllllll day today alllllll day, it went back down to like 1/10 of the way to being finished after it was like 9/10 of the way there.
It's rediculous, i have great internet connection yes.. but i have waited more than 9 hours for this stupid updater to finish and it hasen't finished once.
