Let me quote the analysis by brodar from this thread
| QUOTE (brodar) | I have played both games for some time i will start with WoW, imo a game for kids (sry if it is an insult).
I say this because you can lvl any toon to 60 within a month, 10 to 15 days played time and there are alot of kids playig it, not all bad but most don't realy know how to play a MMORPG.
Crafting you can max out any tradeskill in a few hrs, i know cos i have done every tradeskill, mind you there are rares patterns and factons you have to work on after your 300skill.
The game is set up to be for 2 types of play solo/raid seems most everyone solo's there toon to 60 and then tries to remember how to play in a raid (besides the well guilded).
Over all looks...lil cartoony imo.
After you lvl a toon to 60 on either side doing it again seems to be a big bore cos of the lack of quests aka same ole same ole.
WoW has been out for about the same time as EQ2 and has yet to release an expantion .
Sever issuse are very anoying and getting the 300 in que does not help when your tring to log in.
The classes are ok but don't seem to give you the same desire to try them all.
One thing i didn't like about the game is that they realy didn't change the skins of the enemy mobs for the players, for instance if your a orc and you find a trader camp of orc's looks like you fighting your mirror.
Now for EQ2
well at first this game sucked imo lol but after the revamp many things have been changed some good some seems to make the game to easy and as all eq1 players know EQ has never made things easy it's a good way to keep the good players playing
Lvling a toon takes more time and has the feeling of acomplishment to each lvl
Tradeskills are set up as a lvl based not skill lvl and is more indepth then i have seen in any game (but june 14/06 sony is nerfing the tradeskills to make it easyer) witch will still be fun to play your trades just hate when times are simple
The game is set up for solo/group/raid very well NOW at first it was based grp/raid
in WoW the grping play experiance sucked imo EQ2 most everyone knows how to play there toon and how to grp... unlike WoW where pick-up grps scare the poop out of you.
Overall looks and sound of the game is worth playing just for that.but is quit the usage on your PC's vid card and cpu
EQ has had the best sound ambuance(SP??) from eq1 and didn't loose out in EQ2 (WoW you end up turning sound off and listening to mp3's)
Eq2 has had 3 expantions and 3 addons since release but even if you don't buy them the world is still larger them WoW .
Classes well more to choose from and they all look like fun and you want to lvl 90% of them hehe
Now to get to some things in EQ2 that WoW does not have
-Guild lvling system wich gives you some cool benifits
-Status to your toon and your guild if your in a guild
-quests, there are more than dubble.and the quests in EQ2 i lvl faster than i can do them witch leaves the feeling of new quests to do when i lvl a new class (get to do the ones i didn't get to)
-mentoring if your 40 and your bud is 10 you can grp together and still make exp you will get capped at the same lvl as your bud and exp with him/her
-houseing and guild houseing
-shared banking system with all your toons on the same sever
so IMO WoW is fun for 6 months at that time you have beat the game killed Oxy sucked the life out of you repeating MC/BWL and shock your head at the pathetic pvp system
IMO EQ2 has more to discover MUCH more content and doesn't hurt so much to repeat :)
my opinion only so take it easy on the flamming |
So yeah, I would say it is a good game.

im not exactly sure if this is the best mmo to play because i never played it. I bought it, signed up went to play and my vid card isnt good enough. WoW looks kiddy even though everyone says its the best. The mmo i play right now i GUILD WARS!!! It's my favorite so far. Very fun and best of all... NO MONTHLY FEES!! And all you need is 500mb to download it + updates(about 100-150mb) Meanwhile EQ2 is 7 gigs(am i right?) and WoW is 6 gigs. So, i would go with GW out of all. Graphics are DEFINITLY not kiddy. Look at this perfect example.PERFECT EXAMPLE OF NON-KIDDY GRAPHICS/COOL ARMOR

Guild wars is a great game, but it lacks depth compared to WoW or EQ2. Granted its free which makes it nice. But I am one of those people that honestly believe you get what you pay for.
Wow has some nice things to offer. Alot of player base, but you would think with such large player base you would get groups all the time. But, for some reason its the exact opposite. I liked the open map zoning on it much better then EQ2's click on a bell or door to zone into a new land mass. Alot of different starting places for new toons, is better then EQ2. If you like more cartoonish graphics, then you will like the graphics better.
EQ2 offers alot also. More classes to play. More areas to explore. More realistic graphics. More mature crowd, especially on the roleplay servers. The new pvp servers are nice, since alot of lower level people there, because they just started them a few months back. The older servers, its hard for a new player to jump into. Most peoples primary charcters are level 70. So grouping on them is hard at lower levels during primetime. But do not get me wrong, you can still get groups or solo quite well. The raiding is far superior in EQ2 over wow imho. One big drawback though, is they keep making the game easier and easier to try and compete with WoW. Business move it makes alot of sense. But if their players wanted to play wow, they would go play wow.
Both games suffer from the normal MMO problems. Lag, SoCP ((Stupidity of Certain Players)), Time Sinks, Money Sinks, Botters, RMT farmers, etc., etc., etc.
Both games are very easy for a new player to pick up on. Both have custom UI's you can download. Both have damage per second parsers downloadable. EQ2 has a eq2 map updater that is really nice.
Overall, I prefer EQ2 just because there is way more content. 3 adventure packs, 2 Expansion packs, and alot of just newly added mini zones and quests. In case your wondering, Adventure Packs are like an AD&D module for the game. Its not as big as an expansion pack, but has quite alot to offer. usually a couple small zones, and alot of quests, plus a few raid places in them.

I'm sorry but that doesn't sound too fair. O.o
He did not mention a single good side from WoW and I think every game has atleast 1 good thing.
I know this is an EQ2 forum but it wouldn't harm anyone not to favor the other game over the other. :/

Of course WOW has atleast one good thing. It's... Ehmmmm. Lemme think here...
J/K
Seriously, I recently downloaded Trial verisons of both games, starting with WoW. Being a long time GW afficionado I've always made fun of WoW but was open minded enough to give it a spin. Sadly the game couldn't hold my interest for a single hour. The graphics are to cartoonesque for me, and while that suits something like CoH/V, for a Fantasy game it doesn't 'do it' for me. Then I downloaded the 1.5Gb EQ2 trial, downloaded the 1.2Gb patch, switched to UK English which prompted another 1.5 gb download and finally started playing.
11 hours later I had to stop and go to work :-(
So at work I ordered the game online and started the direct2drive downloads (2x 1.4 Gb again...) so I could start playing when I got home. Well, sleep deprivation caught up with me but that's ok it was Friday evening. So I put on the installer and went to bed. Spent the entire weekend playing.
EQ2 imo is a very good game. Has lots to offer, many ways to play and (I think) a high replay value.
Of course there's going to come out another MMOG that's gonna kick it's butt soon :-)
MMORPG (Roleplaying): Mostly Men Online Role-Playing Girls
MMORPG (Acheivement): Miserable Malcontents Online Rehashing Past Glories
MMORPG (PvP): Macho Men Obviously Really Prefer Griefing
MMORPG (itemization): Misers May Obfuscate Recently Purchased Gold
MMORPG (Social): Virtual Worlds with Virtual Wealth and achievements, but with Real People with Real Feelings.

sure i did, lil hiden between the lines but the good thing about wow is if you only have a month to live you can max a toon to 60 and max his/her trade skills before you passaway can't do that in EQ2
