i was just catchin up on all the posts and news from last week and saw there was some new staff so Gratz!
but it caused this little noodle of an inquiry to arise in my brain, what are the responsibilities of the staff? aside from policing bad posts and language and stuff.

Well, they approve all the articles, guides, screenshots, etc and keep all the data up to date on the different sections. Things like that.

Ok let me see if I can give a run down for you.
The Staff is responsible for making sure the site is a friendly and enjoyable place to find information. Not only are we in charge of keeping the Forums in order and free of spammers, we have a lot of behind the screen duties.
We are in constant scramble for new information. Trying to up keep with all the changes going on in the game and the community. New Updates are the times when we have the most work to do. Since we volunteer our time, we spend a lot of our time in game working for the site.
Checking submitted information such as Tips. We like to make sure that we have the best information on the web. So we test out Tips that are submitted before they are approved. Sometimes this take a little bit of time.
Checking Articles. Any Article that is submitted is read and checked for spelling errors, language, and content. This is one of our hardest, but most enjoyable task because we get to see the creative side of our members. This also requires a lot of time.
Screenshots approval. We recieve tons of screenshots everyday. It is unfortunate that we can not accept them all due to repeative submissions. We have to check screenshots for language, content, or if a similar screenshot has been submitted before. This task also takes some time to complete.
Aside from the mentioned above we also have individual duties. Each Staffer has their own task that they take on daily.A few examples I will use: Rainah and the Interviews,Gov and the News. Just to name a few.
I have not listed everything that we must try to keep up with, but this is the surface of what we do. As I said the Staff work is all done by volunteers who enjoy the game, and want to try to keep the community up to date.

They're also responsible for keeping the forums active. Have you ever noticed that if the threads are running slow that Jeni starts posting a lot of "put your answer" here type questions? Since she knows that people are checking the forums but aren't participating, she spurs activity by posting her own topics.

Is that what those are for?!?! And here all this time I just thought she was interested in what I had to say. Oh, the inhumanity!!! ;)
On a serious note, I've been doin a bit of that myself. It's fun to see how things can pick up on a forum after you post a new tidbit of info.

The staff also has to make sure all the spammers are kept off the site (and get thier posts edited and the person removed from gameamp).
We have 2 tiers of staff really. We have the general admins and then the site manager. The general admins are the back bone. They are the ones who go in game and get data from updates, get the submissions approved, and make sure everyone plays nice on the forums.
The site manager is the person who has the final call on things. If there are questions about wether something should be approved or not, if someone is stepping out of bounds on the forums, and they assign out the tasks for the general admins to do. Don't get me wrong, the SM does some grunt work, but they are the ones who have to take care of any problems that come up on the site, so sometimes they don't have as much time.
And I'm good at getting conversations started *grin* it is my knack.
