Okay I'm at work and completely bored out of my mind, so please humor me.
This weekend I watched the X-Men movies (well 1 and 2...don't say anything about 3, I haven't seen it yet.) Anyway, I realized how much of a CoH/V junkie I was because I kept trying to classify the characters as CoH/V AT's. Wolverine is obviously a scrapper and Storm a controller, and I think Sabertooth would have to have been a brute. But what is Jean Gray? Would she fall under a defender or a controller?

Well, I would have said Defender, but I dunno. She seems like the defender type, but being telepathy and telekenesis, I'd say she would fit controller better.

Depending on how you want to portray her, I would say Jean Grey (other than during her Phoenix Force times) is either a Mind (if focussing primarily on her telepathic abilities) or Gravity (if portraying her in one of her TK only states) primary with Force Field as secondary.
What about the other X-Men?
Wolverine: Claws/Regen scrapper. Obviously.
Storm: Storm/Electric defender. Obviously.
Colossus: Invulnerability/SS tanker.
What about the others? Some of them have it really tough.

I don't remember a katana in the comics, but it's been awhile. No katana in the movie though, so going purely from that I'd say Martial Arts/Super Reflexes (with teleport as his travel power of course).

Yeah, definately MA/SR. He occasionally fights with a rapier (or 2 or 3) in the comics, but there's no sets for that, sooooo...

Y'know, I think these 2 are probably some of the hardest to place in a single category. Just think about their powers. Iceman can do much more than just the things that are in the Blaster AT sets. He can cover himself in a sheath of ice (Tanker). He can create and wield weapons (Scrapper). Plus, he can freeze the particles in the air to form walls, encase enemies, and slow opponents (Controller and Defender). The 'ole ice block is an extremely versatile mutant.
The same can be said for his fiery counterpart. I think what makes him different is the fact that he doesn't create the fire...He controls it. So you're left wondering if he should fall into the Blaster or Controller set.
As for Nightcrawler, he's an expert swordsman and an olympic level athlete. I think you could place him in a few different Scrapper categories.

Lets not forget the villains. Magneto would definitely be a dominator, and Mystiec (I can't spell...you know that sexy blue doppelganger) would have to fall under the Stalker class somehow.
Deep into that darkness peering, long I stood there, wondering, fearing, doubting, dreaming dreams no mortal ever dared to dream before.

See, this is why we need some sort of shape-shifting AT. It could even be a villain epic of some sort. Imagine being able to shift so that you're seen as a hero during PvP. It seems like a great time.

Agreed. I think she would be a Martial Arts/Regen stalker with some shapeshifting ability.

Now as of late, some people have become increasingly difficult to categorize.
Emma Frost, for example, would initially have been billed as a straight up Mind/Psychic dominators. However, recently she's gotten the ability to turn into her 'diamond' form, where she becomes physically invulnerable, but loses access to her telepathic abilities, making her more Tanker/Brute-like.

Don't forget the abnormal types like Leech, Sauron, Maggot, Toad, etc. They'd have to make up all new sets for these cats.
A great fit for an AT and power set is Marrow. Since she can rip out her bones and use them as weapons, she'd match perfectly with the Spines/SR types.

That would depend on what you were focussing on.
Pre-Ms. Marvel, I would have created her as a /Kinetics corruptor. It's not a clean fit, but the closest I can come. Post, I would say she became an inv/ss tank, although that wasn't her primary ability (she spend a long time trying NOT to touch anyone at all and just using the powers she absorbed from Ms. Marvel).
The beauty of it is, that absolutely NO AT, power sets or APP would be inappropriate for her, excepting maybe the MM and any set using a lot of gadgets.

Rogue... no contest... Warshade...
Many of the Warshades abilities include draining energies to sustain itself in battle and using them as weapons, not to mention all but 1 of them are used in human form... Dark Dwarf has one and Dark Nova has none, so she fits the Human form of Warshade like a glove.
Rogue takes energy and powers from others and uses them, usually leaving the target drained and weakened.
Umbral Blast:
Essence Drain
Unchain Essence
Dark Extraction
Umbral Aura:
Absorption
Blck Dwarf. Black Dwarf Drain
Stygian Circle
Stygian Return
If I missed any or made a mistake please fix it :)
Plus the Kheldians natural ability to gain enhancements to abilities from being near other ATs (Specific ATs give specific Enhancements or group.)

nah, i'd say she she couldnt be classified as a blaster or a controller. yeah she could absorb powers to blast stuff, but that would be more temp power than power set.

Great point, Anachron! I didn't even think about how she would fit into the epic set.

Well, that's kinda what I mean't. Basically, it was possible for her to absorb and use practically any power.
