| The Storage Question Revisited - Guild and Personal |
|
|
|
I know there have been numerous threads devoted to storage but I think it is a subject that always warrants a revisit.
I had read numerous mentions that in an "upgrade" more storage was coming (apparently this never happened). I am in hopes that it will eventually come.
An idea I had heard tossed around was at least adding the feature of "Guild Storage" within a Guild Hall where members of a guild would have a common storage area (apart from the Xunlai) where members could deposit and retrieve items (bolts of cloth for example).
I emailed support about this and they suggested I get a thread going on a fansite message board as they frequent the boards and glean ideas - what do you all think?
Thanks -

If it's more personal storage I like it, if it's 1 storage for you're whole clan it would be some stupid idead (They'll never do that or they want to spend extra time for people who complain that their precious item is stolen)

Guild Storage is a stupid idea as there is no way to regulate who takes what out. Sure, go ahead and put your 500 bolts of cloth in there. You most likely will never see them again. There needs to be an increase in personal storage, or make each character get its own storage bow and have a main box to send items from character to character. I tend to keep my storage clean of everything except dye and gold. For me the storage system as is is totally fine.

First of all, I apologize, somehow I ended up with a double post. Perhaps someone can merge.
I don't think ANY idea of increased storage, personal or guild, is stupid. It would be up the game coders to find a way to manage it.
I am sure that there are many out there who have no problems with storage but in my talks with guild members, allies, and friends who play the game all of them pretty well feel the same, more storage would be very valuable.
I am simply trying to start some dialogue here and see what the community thinks.

Personal Storage: Anet says they're working on it, but I'm starting to wonder if all their priorities are focused on Chapter 3.
Guild Storage: It may or may not work with some of the bigger guilds, but our guild could certainly use it. Many times we get good items but end up merchanting it. What we would do is deposit them into this storage, and anyone who could use it can take it. And this storage would also keep a short record of who took/added. So if someone takes all the items and merchants them, we can figure out the culprit.
PS: Just because the person who had the idea just suggested it rather than being overly descriptive doesn't mean it's a stupid idea. Use your brain and add to it to make it better.

I would certainly like some more storage for my account... All of my characters have at least 2 weapon sets, salvage kit, ID kit, keys, quest items, and on a couple of them a second set of armor, and between all of those it takes most of my backpack up. Having the ability to place all that junk into storage when I don't need it for adventuring would be nice.
Guild Storage COULD be nice... It would require a certain degree of honor to it, though, since otherwise people WOULD just join a guild, ransack the guild storage, then leave. It would probably be better to make it so that anyone could put items into storage but so that only guild officers or the person who put the item in could take it out. That would prevent a good deal of thievery, and it would still allow people to trade items with one another even if they were rarely if ever on at the same time. The reciever would simply have to be online at the same time as a guild officer.

I don't see any mention in my posts saying I had a problem with yours ... I only replied with what I know, from the conversations I have had this idea, concept, or something along its lines seems like a good idea.

I think Guild storage is a great idea. We do a guild storage in my guild, but it requires the guild leader and a couple of officers(ie: me)to store the stuff, using up our own spaces.
I think only guild leader and officers should have access to the guild storage bin though, or theft would be rampant. We generally play it by ear if we get a request for something.

I didn't meant the idea to be stupid but imagine you're in a guild with around 100 members and there isnt some kind of log book on then it's stupid otherwise not

More storage please! Personal or Guild or both.
Also, while we are on the topic of adding things to the game, Auction House (not too unlike WoW's) would be the best improvment.
{should prolly start a new thread on this though]

personaly i don't need any storage for myself but a guild storage might be a nice idea.
something like items that your planning on merchanting anyways you can put them in the guild storage, you shouldnt put all your crappy white weapons in there cause then the guild storage wil become full. and then other people can just buy the items from the guild storage for merchant price, then you dont have people who steal and merchant all the items.

The key to make the Guild Storage works is not that hard. Look:
- Everyone can deposit money and/or items on the storage.
- Only the guildleader, and perhaps a handful of trustful officers can take things out from it.
- Any in and out on the GS is accompained by a log avaliable for the guildleader and the officers.
Its that the way it works on other online games. And believe, there aint so much problems on that.
But...I believe changes like this, if so, will come on chapter 3.

Hopefully Anet will take a look at some of these types of posts and either integrate some type of change in an update or in the next chapter.
I know some folks have gone as far as purchasing 2nd copies of the game, creating characters, and then treating them as extra storage (wooden planks rack up fairly fast, lol).

I don't know. I think the idea of guild storage is a cool idea. I've played other games where guild storage was free for anyone to add or subtract items to it. It seemed to work fairly well, afterall you are putting in items to share with the other members of you guild. If you didn't want to share an expensive item you simply don't put it in.

More personal storage would be really nice. It really is way too small, considering that is you keep a stack of each dye color, that takes up over half the storage.
Guild storage: Good idea. If you don't want to put 100 ectos in there because someone might steal it, then don't. But there a lot of new characters that would love to have that one-point-less-than-perfect Axe you can't sell for more than 228 gp. And if you have shady folks in your guild, that's YOUR problem for letting in the rif-raf; the system shouldn't be built around that.
They could also create an offline trade system. I can put an item or five into a little box with somebody else's name on it, then when the recipient logs in, they have a package waiting for them. Much like the Anet birthday presents (in other words, the code is already written, uh, mostly). If recipient doesn't want it, it can go into the "general treasury".

i agree but if every1 was allowed to access the guild storage guild hoppers would run rampit.
having officers and guild leader acces only is great but if the leader could give individuals the permission to access and maybe a notice when something was added/taken from guild storage w/ the player that added/took from the storage.
edited for bad spacing

I think Guild Storage a great idea : but one way to avoid guild hoppers would be to make it so that a player must be in guild for * days or have permission from guild leader / officer to have access to storage or both of those measures :)
