It is against the end user license agreement to buy GW items (gold included) for real cash. This has to do with preserving the in-game economy. Otherwise everyone would've been a millionaire.
And if it works? dunno. Never tried it, and i'm afraid you will not find out here on Amp since 99% of the people here do not do that. We believe in hard work, and hard work pays off ^.^

It is against the EULA you signed when you bought the game. If Anet discovers you're buying gold, I think you get banned for a while. Or it could be forever shut down.
Either way, is it worth it? No. You don't learn how to play the game. You get all that money, but you havent' a clue how to use it to benefit most.
My advice, don't do it. But IF you do decide to do it, keep it to yourself. You never know who's watching.

The buying and selling of gold, or any type of money, in any on line game is a major problem. Mainly it destroyes the economy, but it also promotes laziness.
I am hope what I am going to say here doesn't get me banned, but it is the reality of it. The majority of the websites are based out of Asian countries. That is a fact that can be shown if you know how to track down the owner of a website. Solution....QUIT buying from the Asian Farmers. They are the ones that you see constantly in major cities spamming the crap out of the place, and most have Asian sounding names. If they can't sell items, they can't sell gold. Simple enough!!!

Some people say that you're not paying for the gold. You're paying for the time spent trying to get the gold and to give it to you. I wouldn't trust that. You are paying for the gold.

It's called profiling, not discrimination. Discrimination would be using a racial slur as opposed to saing "Asian"

In some cases I think buying gold isn't a big deal. If you work a lot, have a real life, and can only play an hour a week. You may never get weapon X, so why not treat yourself, the game is meant to have fun.
With that said, Guild Wars is made for people who have little time, most missions are 30 minutes or less. You can easily farm gold, you can make money running, etc. So there is really no need to buy gold.
Now I realize most people will disagree ... in a perfect world, if 1 out of every 100,000 players buys 100k to get a weapon they would never get ... that isn't going to ruin the economy. I do realize that because most of the time, people go overboard, buying 1 million gold, and more then 1 in 100,000 people do it. So ya, in our not so perfect world it does ruin things .. but I can also see were it isn't such a bad thing.
