How to be a good mesmer?

Hey all, once again it's me! :D
Today, I got bored of playing with my ele (created him a few days ago because I wanted to try a mass degen build but never go far enough to get the skills needed! :D)
So, I'm thinking of making a mesmer. For PvE for starters.
I've tried mesmer before but for some reason, erased her too. ><
Now I'd like to know how to work well as a mesmer in a group? Do I need to degen, interrupt or debuff?

PS: You can also give tips for PvP too but I going to do PvE more because I actually want to know how to play a mesmer if I ever get into PvP. :)

Oh, I've always used my r/me for interrupting.

A migraine Mesmer is always a popular build (and useful) Mix that with Arcane Conundrum, and spells take 200% longer to cast on your target. Perfect for interupting monks, and all other casters! Using skills like Power Leak, you can add some nice energy stealing and interuption as well.

Thanks for that, when I get to GW and make that Mesmer, I think I'll be the only one in the guild I'm , who has a mesmer. :P
So I guess I really do have to learn how to handle one if we ever get to PvP.

Super degen can be fun.

Conjure phantasm
Images of Remorse
Auspicous Incantation
Conjure Nightmare
Accumulated Pain

This puts -17 degen on a character. Now only -10 will actually come off them as that is max degen, but adding HB or Trolls Unguent to it gets taken off the -17 still leaving them with max degen.

this build i feel is really good and i'm getting really used to being a mesmer. this build is good against any proffession . i use this mostly in pvp though.

For PvP, u generally want a mix of interrupt and utility. Dont spam your PLeak/Drain (the 2 most commonly used interrupts) on anything, wait for important spells. Timing Diversion is key - wait for a BSurge to use their BSurge, count down until the recharge is almost over (they usually spam on recharge) and put it up so that it goes on about 1/4-1/2 second before they finish casting - practice this technique.

I just created a mesmer myself a couple of days ago, and here's a build that's worked really well for me so far. It's sort of a mix between illusion and domination, and works well against casting and melee mobs.

Mesmer / Ele

Conjure Phantasm
Conjure Nightmare
Empathy
Backfire

I use these skills to take out mobs quickly, depending on what kind it it. I usually put one degen on them, whichever isn't recharging at the time, and if they're a caster, backfire (takes out enemy healers VERY quickly) and if they're melee, they get empathy.

For energy management, I have:

Glyph of Lesser Energy
Energy Tap

I haven't found myself running low on energy, even surrounded by many mobs.

Finish the Skill bar off with a res sig, and an optional skill slot. I just capped Energy Surge, which is a nice touch against mobs that are close together.

Anyway, that's my build for now, and it's worked really well. I got to the Ring of Fire island in 3 days of occasional playing, of course, having Olias as a MM let me plough through Prophecies.

Hope that this might help, or give you ideas for your own build :-)

this is my trusty old mesmer that I been using alot off

when cry of pain came out I went to get it in NF and I was pleased with the skill so I looked for a cheap spammable hex to use in tandem and settle on image of remorse

ineptitude is a nice elite even with the nerf a little while back

a couple of signet for interupts

e-tap for emergency management

and voila, not the best built but one I rather enjoy using

sometime I will run migraine for mission specific case but the rest of the bar stay more often then not the same
