ok ok the world cup.
why must england have to face portugal so early on,
at work the company has done a sweepstake and each person at work was alloted a team drawn out of a bag by them selves.
i have portugal but of course i support england. i dont know who i should cheer for now if portugal win the cup i get a portable dvd player.
i of course already have a portable dvd player but i still want to win lol.
its just not fair.

I am rooting for Germany, but I am also going for England and Brazil....tough choice, those are my top 3 teams

Maybe some day when America is actually good at it, people in this country will care. But when we get our butts handed to us by GHUANA, and go 0-3 (The Italians kicking one in thier own goal to "tie" doesn't count for me) when we were supposed to be the 5th rated in the world...

Bah, soccer is nothing more than an advanced version of kick the can...I prefer sports with higher injury counts.

1 please dont call it soccer, the word soccer should be actually made illegal. 2 football has a massive injury rate, have you seen some of the broken legs, like total 3 part snappage.

And please stop bashing football. You don't hear me whining when a baseball discussion comes up. This website is not for the vast majority of people from The States only. So don't take every opportunity where "we" like to discuss the biggest sporting event of the (rest of the) world into a rant. You don't like the game. Fine. Then just stay out of it.
I was last week in Germany supporting Team USA. The two cities they played in were overrun by American fans. It was great fun. I don't even like football that much, but seeing that many people cheering for their country made me join in. And they did that hand in hand with the thousands of Italy and Ghana fans. It is just wonderful to see that many flags waving and people cheering. I just couldn't stay neutral in the corner.
And it still sucks Holland is out. They deserve to be champs.

Well, I don't do the sports thing. I've been known to watch me a bit of hockey though. Played roller hockey too once upon a time for a week or two. :) But that's about the extent of my sports involvment.

Well...I don't like baseball either. The only sports that I really enjoy are football (helmets) and ultimate fighting (hemorrhages). I tried to give soccer a chance, but it's just too freaking boring. It falls in line with hockey and baseball. I just can't get into a sport that doesn't have more scoring or action. The only reason that I can stand basketball is because the score can change quickly (I mean by about 20 points) - which makes it a bit interesting. I think my biggest issue with soccer is that the ball just bounces around for hours...sometimes without a single goal. Yeah, there are low scoring games in football, but people are getting crushed during every play. Every play, somebody is getting his rear handed to him...It's civil brutality at its best. :P
However, I do respect the hell out of soccer players. Those cats are going non-stop for an incredible period of time. You've got to give them credit for being in amazing shape.
As for the whole "don't comment" thing, every thread is for every member. I don't think anyone was being incredibly offensive by stating that they aren't into soccer. Hell, I started a thread about a television show, and somebody said that it sucked...I didn't get upset about it. It's his right to think and express that sentiment.

You are right. I was seriously overreacting and only half reading the posts. It was early in the morning, and I am still being upset that Holland got kicked out. My sincere apologies. I wanted to go back later on and edit my post, but decided to wait till you (or somebody else) would tell me I am an idiot :)

such a game does not exist, the rest of the world calls it football, we invented the game we named it, its FOOTBALL you kick a ball with your foot. your game should be called something else as you pick up the ball and run with it.
which we also invented but we dont use big shoulder pads and body armour armour with a U. ours is called Rugby.
side note as serious as i sound in this i dont mean to. im still only having a laugh but my points are valid.

As for the soccer vs. football thing, you've got to let it go, Jinx. I'm sure there are hundreds of examples for items that have different names in our countries. I wouldn't try to force you to call items by the American name, so I don't expect you to do it to me. Plus, how confusing would my last post have been if I kept talking about the differences between football and football? Finally, I know that football got its origins from rugby, but the games are soooooo freaking different. Rugby seems like a cross between football, soccer, volleyball, and a drunken mosh pit. :P

I was born and I live in the US and I find Baseball to be truely boring. I apologize ahead of time for calling football soccer, only if to tell the two apart. My family originates from Denmark and to say the least, we were really annoyed with them not making it to the Cup. We have a pool started with several people and I have Brazil to win, so no major upsets.
