ideas for big the tank

ok after doing some more BB last night, i realized taht i actually like PvP and having TP in PvP sucks.

i'm considering respecing out TP in favor of SJ. now this would mean big the tank wouldnt have recall friend anymore. i don't have anywhere to take it instead.

i just wanted to see what you all thought about it because i pretty much took TP for reasons: 1. i never took it before and 2. recall friend for the team help.

and

i kinda want to change big's armor, but i kinda dont. any suggestions?

Yeah. I'm down with Xol on this one. You should do whatever makes you happy, bubba. The rest of us support types will probably be picking up Recall at some point. I know I'm planning on getting it around 16 or 18. I probably should've grabbed it at 6 or 8, but I chose Hurdle without thinking. Either way, we'll figure out how to make due without a teleporting Tanker. :P

RE: ideas for big the tank

I understand your thoughts on teleport. It is not as easy to control when you want to do small (shorter) jumps. I will more then likely get rid of teleport as well for Swissarmy68, but will keep Recall Friend. If you have an Empathy Defender with you (Delphon or myself) they tend to have Recall Friend. All of my Empathy characters have it. To me it is a must have for a healer. So for you not to have it, more then likely someone in your group will have it besides you.

As for an armor change, are you talking about changing your regular armor or the chicken suit?

Is there a way to make it look like you built up an ice suit around you? You know, maybe a more tight fitting armor that is all white and silver...

Try a change, we will let you know what we think.

RE: ideas for big the tank

I'm not a big PVP'er either, but I know a few. According to my sources, Teleport is the best movement powers for a PVP player to have.

I know this is going to start a debate over what's best and what isn't, but the ability to move off of things like Caltops, and be instantly up in someone's face is good to have. I can't argue the point, but before respecing out of Teleportation, I'd go over some of the forum posts on PvP first. Probably have to go to the main boards for good stuff on that, but there might be a little info floating around here as well.

I'll check my home boards to see if our PVP'ers gave reasons for the evaluation.

the chicken costume is staying! i think thats a hit. someone even came up to me yesterday and asked if i wanted to do some missions with her SG and role play my chicken!

i want to keep the armor because of the backstory for Big. if you dont know it then click my siggy! the armor fits perfectly. but i want to change it cause i'm sick of looking at it a little bit.

i never would have thought teleport would be good for PvP. of course there hasnt been that many villains in Bloody Bay the past two times we have gone there. and i was the bait as electro camped above me with his PB and just blasted anyone who came near me.

my problem wiht TP is that villains get away from me very easily and if they are up in the air i cant follow them or get close to them.

RE: ideas for big the tank

Quick question for you, Thundar. Do most of the PvPers have 2 travel powers, or do they rely solely on Teleport? This is just out of curiousity...I don't PvP very often.

By the by, Big you should go for something in a light teal or fuschia. It suits you...Sissy. :P

i aggree with everyone else in that you should take whatever you want. sj is good, but if you plan on concentrating on pvp, fly is better. then you can follow them into the air and stay there. but copmbat jumping would give you a nice defense bonus when active, but choose what you want

RE: ideas for big the tank

As for whether or not you want to be effective in PVP on a regular basis, it's definately NOT "Get whatever you want or like". It's already well known that certain power sets are better for PVP, and they always will be. There won't be a way other than breaking the game, or shutting it down to correct it.

The big questions you have to ask yourself:
1) Do I want to be a serious PVP player, or be serious with this toon?

2) Do I just want to be the casual PVP player that can accept that I'm going to get Pwned by those who take it serious from time to time. (Casual as in short for casualty.......)

Skill will compensate for taking the "Not-uber" PVP choices. But only to some degree. The lame players that choose cookie cutter PVP power selections will still get the best of you, even though you are a better player.

Me, I love my toons too much to canabalize powers I have fun with for PvP. I have created toons specifically for PvP, but they are all low to mid levels. I just don't PVP enough to keep developig those toons. I have one Blaster that is level 41 and ready to PVP, but I still kept Flight even when I know it's not the best for this type of play.

The information from my best PVP friend comes from a player called Angus Black. If you've ever had to go toe to toe with him in PVP, he's given you fits, even if you did beat him.

Quick rundown on stuff learned.

Fly and hover sux unless you also get TP. Don't touch it if you want to PvP. FYI almost every Stalker takes Fly or has a Jet Pack(I have 2)

Super Speed is good just hope your enemy doesn't have powers that cause slow. A 3 slotted swift well help all but Stone Tanks with slow effects. I was able to move with ease through stacked COT quicksand for an example.

Jumping 3 slotted Hurdle + Sprint 3 slotted with Jump enhancements is better speed then fly and costs no additional powers, and allows you to attack without suppression. 3 slotted hurdle and combat jumping is the best IMO and does the same as above.

Teleport, if you can stand the power, TP is by far the best.

Slotting swift, Sprint and Hurdle are not bad ideas. Anything that increases movement is an edge that can help you win.

My Stalker is currently running 3 slotted swift, Hurdle, Sprint, and combat Jumping. It's like perma speed boost.

This is still very vaugue, and gives no reasons to support his opinions.

There was a question of whether or not my PVP friends had multiple movement powers. Hover+TP could justify that as a yes, but as you can see how he manipulates the health pool here, He basically is slotting out 2 movement pools.

Also note that even though he did report that Teleport was the uber movement power, he also isn't using it. As I mentioned, this guy has skill far and above my PVP abilities, it's what he lives for in the game.

Movement powers are also going to pivot on power selections. Having Acrobatics is nice for PVP, but there are other TP Foe preventing powers that negate the need to have it. Tanks should all have a defensive power that prevents or inhibits TP Foe. Therefore Acrobatics is not needed.

Flight might seem to be a safe place to be, but it's the worst travel power to have.

Still, take this all with a grain of salt. This is just what people I know are good at PVP tell me. I have to take their word for it, and decide to sacrafice what I want, for what I need. I rarely do that. For me, If I die in PVP, big deal. I will get a few kills in, but the hard core guys just 1-2 kill me and jog away. Food for thought. More research on what actually makes TP best for PVP would be best before respecing.

One observation from me personally: Teleportation has an escape factor that no other movement power can match. You cannot fly, jump or super speed away from some powers, a lot of them in fact, but you can TP away in the blink of an eye.

RE: ideas for big the tank

great info thundar

i'm definately not going to be the serious PvP player with Big the Tank until i get a lot higher. the only way i'd respec to be strictly PvP is if the whole SG wanted to do it because i'd rather hear ASSEMBLE ALLIANCE! than see a stalker miss with AS, which is also fun to watch.

Teleport is an AWESOME escape power! i love it cause they never know where you are going to go. I've also wanted to try the swift+hurdle+CJ combo to see how great it is. i could easily do that right now because i have swift and could sub out TP/recall for hurdle and CJ. that way i get the Def bonus of CJ.

i'm going to bookmark this thread for future reference so once tankypants gets up to like 40 i can come back and remember your wise words of wisdom.

What do you have? I think hoarfrost is great, cuz it gives to an extra 40% more HP every time you use it. Ya wanna have that icicle power thing, to stop the stalker's assassin strikes for sure. IMHO wet ice is the power that seperates you from all other tanks (escpecially in PvP) becuase you are so dang slippery you can't get held or slowed or nothing! Status effect powers can wreck havok on people in PvP, and wet ice makes you so immune to them.

I think the ice set is probably the best set for PvP, personally, but what kinda attack you got? As far as offence, if you have ice you are going to have a hard time PvPing... not a lot of damage there. Good holds and stuff, but good luck holding a brute or a stalker in one shot.

When it comes to travel powers, I think that either SJ is good for keeping up with guys when they're trying to get away from you, or better yet get TP foe and tp them right in front of you. If you have that chilling embrace (or whatever it's called, the power that makes baddies move slow around you) once they're standing next to you it's ganna take a bit for them to get away. One thing to keep in mind, some guys actually have resistance to tp foe, energy brutes for example.

Should i be concerned that i am "uneasy" around bigs new avatar?
I mean at my height it is at eye lvl.

And i am not even addressing the fact that the avatar makes a sound when it walks..that weird squeeky squeeky sound.

does the thing get regular washing?

RE: ideas for big the tank

well i found out from the main boards that glacial armor not only protects from energy/neg energy, it also gives a boost to perception, enabling me to see stalkers coming at me in PvP! so now i'll make even better bait!

but i've decided to rebuild tankiepanties. i'm going to keep the same team friendly build, but unleash a little of big's badass side with a better PvP build.

1. Frozen Armor (1) (3) (3) (5)
1. Frozen Fists (1) (11) (19) (23)
2. Ice Sword (2) (13) (21) (27)
4. Hoarfrost (4) (5) (7) (7) (9) (9)
6. Chilling Embrace (6) (11) (13) (17) (23)
8. Wet Ice (8)
10. Swift (10)
12. Icicles (12) (17) (25)
14. Health (14) (15) (15)
16. Frost (16) (19) (25)
18. Glacial Armor (18) (27)
20. Stamina (20) (21)
22. Combat Jumping (22)
24. Ice Patch (24)
26. Taunt (26)

yeah no travel power, but you guys can either TP me or just wait for my beautiful hind end to show up.

Isn't a travel power necessary in PvP?

RE: ideas for big the tank

As I see it, the leaping pool is one of the best for PVP, especially when combined with teleport for those sticky situations. Depending on the AT, flight can also be good. Its a matter of maneuvering skill. During the RV test event, I built a fire/fire tank (I know, I know) and gave him:

Blazing Aura (end red)(end red)(Acc)(Dam)(Dam)
Scorch (acc)(acc)(dam)(dam)
Fire Shield (end red)(dam res)(dam res)(dam res)
Fire Sword (acc)(acc)(dam)(dam)
Hurdle (jump)(jump)(jump)
Combat Jumping (jump)(jump)(jump)
Air Superiority (acc)(acc)(dam)(dam)
Plasma Shield (end red)(dam res)(dam res)(dam res)
Fly (flight)(flight)(flight)
Health (heal)(heal)(heal)
Burn (rech)(dam)
Stamina (end mod)(end mod)(end mod)
TP Foe (Acc)(Acc)(Acc)
Teleport (end red)(end red)(range)
Breath of Fire (Acc)(Acc)(dam)(dam)
Build Up (rech)(rech)(rech)
Fiery Embrace (rech)(rech)(rech)
Consume (rech)(rech)(rech)
Incinerate (acc)(acc)(dam)(dam)
Greater Fire Sword (acc)(acc)(dam)(dam)

This build gave me good maneuverability. I basically ran around on the ground, fighting whoever I saw. The super speeders gave me issues sometimes, but I usually would tp em right back to me and use Air Sup to knock em down. I could usually keep em down with air sup, or tp em back to me. If they flew away, I followed em, Hit em with Air Sup (knocking them all the way to the ground, causing falling damage) and proceeded to munch em up. Teleport I mainly used as an "Oh Crap! I gotta Run!" power, as well as to get back to a fight when I died and had to go to the hospital. It was only stone brutes and super speeding stalkers that gave me real fits, other than them, I usually won each fight I got into. Burn was real fun to set on auto and drop all the time.

If any of you have any advice for this build, please let me know, as I'm working on a fire/fire now, and will prolly respec into a PvP build in later lvls.

Warron

ok i looked it over and the build i posted before sucks and its out.

these are my must haves:
frozen armor, frost fists, chilling embrace, wet ice, hoarfrost, swift, health, stamina, glacial armor, ice patch.

that leaves me with 4 powers left to fill right now, 2 of which being travel powers.

i could stick with Teleportation and take TP foe/TP or i could go with Flight and take air superiority/fly.

so 2 powers left.

A. assault/tactics.
B. frost/icicles
C. frost/CJ
D. energy absorption/icicles or frost
E. provoke/intimidate - this is the only option that has a ranged taunt.

if i go flight, frost is out in favor of air superiority.

i'm leaning towards TP foe/TP. right now i'm thinking assault/tactics. this will make my team better and my PvP experience uber, from what i've read.

i was reading this guide on the main boards that gave me some ideas.
