Why henchmen

i personaly hate henchmen
i mean why r they even there this is not a single player game its even called "Guild" Wars and u should play with otheer people not bots usualy from ur guild
but there is a nother problem why gulde dont help is a missions and quests
avery time i ask someone for help they say go get a henchmen and u ll be fine cuz we dont have time right now.

thats is so boaring cuz with hanchmen u cant do different taktics and interesting assalts on the foes.

IMO, Henchmen are there so that you don't have to tolerate an overdose of PUGs. Sometimes henchies can get the job done with no issues, complaints, or idiotic behavior.

But you're right, they shouldn't be used through the entire game. They should only be used if you want to complete a task and nobody useful is available.

Henchmans are there for many reasons..
If ur all alone with doing a quest, dont have anyone to help u. Then the henchmans are ur friend!
Or if ur one guy short u can always take a henchman.
Or maybe if u dont feel like playing with other people atm.
and so on..
they are also a way to get going quick.

I totally agree with cswella on this point.

Henchies are there to use when u need them. They don't complaign and they get the job done (most of the time).

actually i like the hench i had little to no problem with them. mainly becose IF they screw you can call them whatever comes into your mind and they would still gaze with their stupid smiles. yes i've had problems with em but i managed so far.

Henchies are dumb, yes.
But if they didn't exist, monks would be even harder to get..

Hmm.. the only thing that bothers me about henchies is that their attributes are only set to 12.. Mhenlo, i know, has his attriutes set to 14 divine and 14 heal.. but the other henchies doesn't have attributes over 12.. grr.. so lame!

why henchmen?

Arrg, there's already been a thread like this but anyway. Henchmen are great, my life means I hardly ever get time to play all at once. With henchies I can start a mission, sod off for 2 hours and come back and continue without losing my place or half my team

I don't think they're useless. For example, sometimes when I got to a mission area, there were like 2 or 3 people. In that case you can take henchies instead of waiting forever until some people come and want to go with you...

Actually henchies make a good Level 26 Flesh Golem quick to if you are a Necro Deathmaster. And if you are a monk just rez rinse and repeat.

that is true but when I use henchmen it feels like iam playing Oblivion
I bought this game cuz I wanted to go on a mission with other gamers plus if Iam not misstaken the foes drop more items if u play with real people.

But offcorse it has its upp and downs.

Why Henchmen

If your Guild never wants to work with you, and doesn't do any of the things you do. Maybe it is the wrong guild for you. Henchmen are there for when not enough people are online, or you need some 'alone' time. :)

Not to get off topic too much, but it always makes me wonder about guilds when i see:

"Selling Guild, GH, storage, merchant, 370,000 faction, 160+ active members"

Who are those 160 members? If I was in the guild, I wouldn't want to be for sale ... how close can the guild be if the person is selling it?

I personally use henchman 'cos im incredibly lazy and i sometimes don't want to spend time recruiting. Henchmen really aren't that bad, they focus attacks, use there skills very efficiently and you can't "lose" them. they also tend to be at a level suitable for the quests. their AI isn't great, ill admit, although they do seem to have very successfuly replicated Assassins' behaviour (he ALWAYS rushes in an dies :-P). I do go with players when theres a party already recruiting for a quest and for missions tho. On the subject of guilds, im guild leader of a smallish guild (only 15 or so members) but we're all close and will help each other if we ask. if for whatever reason i had to resign i would definatly promote one of my officers, so the spirit of the guild could continue.

I'm currently in an inactive guild and everyone's offline all the time so that leaves me two choices:

A)PUGs
B)Henchies

I don't mind PuGs but I only use PuGs in missions. I tend to use henchies as much as possible since real people are too unreliable.

The henchies can be my best friends at times. Due to schedules, etc. it's hard at times for my fellow Guild members to be on at the same time. Henchies won't leave the group in the heat of battle much like player's can and will do (I H8 it when ppl do that!!) Plus, when you get drops, you know it's meant for you; if you click the drop, you don't see "Item Reserved For Another Player". But, there's times when I wanna throw my lappy 'cause the healer doesn't wanna heal/res; the rt henchies are quicker to res than the healer. And yes, Professor Gai is a lil' on the wimpy side.

Henchmen FTW!!!!! Henchmen for me are 99% more effective than people(cept guildies and freinds of course). For example i was an mm for nephui quarter and when i went with the regular group(2 monks me 2 tanks ss rit nuker) the first time after i repeatedly told them(don't fight the turtle firts! they went and did it anyway then our second run through we died in 5 minutes. I did it with henchmen in 20 minutes beacause i knew of a strategy that the ehnchment had no choice but to follow. I find playing with henchmen far more strategic than palying with people. People genrally have overpowered builds while henchmen's are a little toned down.Also it makes guild wars(phrophecies not so much factions) a great single player game. It takes lot's of skill and intellect to find strategies to beat tougher missions like thk and abbadons mouth. So you can shoose to go with pugs wich is perfectly fine or you can do with henchmen which is equally fine henchmen are here to help us not hurt us after all. Mostly the people who say they suck are the poeple whoo suck themselves beacuse the henchman power is usually relfected from the one who leads them.

Best quest imo to hench in factions is definitly mayhem in the market. There is no down side 2 it, everyone is lvl 20, they follow u and dont go their own way and die, if the team does wipe nobody leaves.

You may not be able to tell henchmen everything you could tell a human player, thus be limited in strategy, but at least they listen to those things you can tell them to do.

They are also good to try out new goofy and off the wall builds with. Henchies never complain about the skills you take with you.

I've managed practically every mission in Cantha with henchies with my Assassin. ('cept viz square, etc) I found little to no issue with them. My only issue I had was keeping the healer alive, if I managed that, no one else died.

I managed all missions in tyria and cantha with henchies so far (even Vizunah Square^^). I replay the missions with 'real' people afterwards for the bonus goals, cause it's impossible in some missions to get them with henchies (as they always follow you and you can't tell them where to go and what to do).

Henchmen are there as a 2nd option not a primary one, the great thing about this game is that everyone in the entire GW world can connect and play together (international districts), alot of games have multiple servers running and have no way of connecting someone from server A to server B, and with GW bringing that to the table means that hench should never be used as a primary option.

That said it still doesnt hurt if you feel like taking your time on a mission, hench dont complain if you stop for 30 minutes to make a cofee and relax while you talk to guild members, (well kinda) I have seen some of the warrior and assassin hench get rather impatient at times just itching to get to the next battle. Remember though if you dont want to use hench and all your guild members are busy, a PUG can actually be great, I have a third account that I keep silent and I have met some fantastic people just because I have been groupnig with random people, it can cause a bit of unwanted stress at times with the "Go go go!" people (I find that is my pet peeve when it comes to PUG's) but in general meeting new people is a fantastic part of this game.

To sum up, use hench as a last option, but dont dismiss them either they can be your greatest ally sometimes.

I agree with you to that extent. And as far as the single player bit goes. My friend and I just did Ice Caves of Sorrow with just us 2 and henchmen. Considering there was hardly anyone else in the town, and both of us were lvl 15. I would like to see 2 people solo it at lvl 15.

I must admit, i'm not much for playing with a full party of teammates, so if it wasnt for henchmen, i probably wouldnt have done every mission that i have. I like just playing with my friends, and the addition of henchmen gives me that extra firepower/protection while still playing with just my friends.

Besides, my friends and I use skype, so we are very well coordinated, henchmen might have some bad AI, but they at least listen without having to type out commands telling them what to do. Because personally, i would rather be in a large fight just talkin like normal with my friend, then having to sit there and type out trying to tell someone else what they need to do.

Well, to add on to what I said earlier... the Mo henchies are so much better than many of the monks I've played with. Though, keeping themselves alive they're horrid at :/

Though, what class were you two for ICoS? Class can make a difference in what missions and at what level you can solo. :/

When I used to only PvE, I pretty much always used henchmen. Reasons:

1. A lot of people are annoying.
2. "Attack the monks" to a human means "Go attack the nearest foe", whereas you don't even have to tell henchmen to kill your target.
3. Even if you screw up, I don't think henchmen will be mad for very long.

Now I don't use henchmen because there aren't any in RA :x

Like everyone said, henchmen aren't smart. However, they're predictable. And while you can't directly control them, you can guide them to a certain degree.

I've used them for almost all quests in Tyria and most quests in Cantha as well. They never reject, complain, quit (regardless of DP and missed bonuses), curse, ask for money (they do get drops though), spam or draw stupid things on the minimap. The same can't be said for Pick Up Groups.
