| Advice on Assassin Secondary Profession |

It's me again! :) I finished up some work so I've been playing a lot today, and I decided to take my Assassin for a spin. I love him, he's so cute...but I still haven't decided on a secondary profession for him.
A few stood out to me, since I've been taking this time to assess his strengths and weaknesses on their own. Monk would allow him not to depend so heavily on others for healing, but then again once I get him up to enough of a level, a battle should be over as quickly as possible. Still, the healing and regeneration would be useful when I can't find a decent healer for a party.
Ranger would give Troll Unguent and useful traps, as well as an animal companion who could help attack and draw fire. Then again, there are a lot of Ranger skills he wouldn't be able to use since I don't intend to have him be an archer primarily and attack from a distance, as that would invalidate many of his Assassin skills. So there's upside and downside to that too.
Mesmer is another that has up and down; he would be able to put foes at a disadvantage immediately and cause them even to do harm to themselves, as well as being able to derive healing from them with skills like Ether Feast and so forth. Since Mesmers are also dependent on battles ending quickly, this struck me as a pretty good pair as well.
The others I really don't know enough about or don't think they'd really suit my style...does anyone have any advice as to what they would choose? These all seem like valid choices to me, but I want to make sure I choose the one that will give me the least frustrating time and of course the most fun out of it. So if you have advice, I'd be happy to hear it. :)
Thanks in advance. I appreciate all the great conversation that's been given here already!

i play my sin as an a/w. This way not only do i have flashing blades to keep me from getting hit many times but also watch yourself for armor and healing sig for when i need more than my 8 pips or however many given to me by shadow refuge.

Just unlock em all and do whatever you want. secondaries arent important in the long run, as you can just switch them as you need them. Plus you only have to buy the secondary skills you will actually use.

Well, I would, but I'd prefer to have an okay time until I decided to ascend and can freely switch between secondaries. I think I'm down to Monk and Ranger as possibilities. The Ranger has great traps, spirits, and conditions, which would really be great for a well-prepared assassin. Unfortunately it doesn't always work out that well in missions where you have to keep up with other characters or they won't help you lure enemies your way. So that might be for nothing, especially if I intend to use daggers and not a bow.
With the Monk, as I said, it's a concern of quickness and even having time to regenerate health/heal. I just don't know...

Hmmm... well my other suggestion would be to use a secondary that you dont already have a character of. That way you can unlock skills you might want to use in a pvp character easier.
Just remember that it takes maybe 40 hours at most of playing a character before they are ascended, however you have that character forever or u get banned or get bored of it or one of your friends is an bumhole and deletes it. I personally find that I use monk secondarys more for pvp while in pve i tend to use just my primary, in which case i leave it a monk just for a constant rez.
edit: forget the easier unlocking, if you r an assassin it means u started in factions and have to pay for most of your skills anyways.

Well, I never do PvP so that isn't quite so important to me. :) I keep kicking it around either way...Mesmer might still be a contender, but there's a lot to consider with Mesmer strategy as well, and it may just be too complicated and not worth it except in the toughest fights...which may not lend themselves easily to all of the strategy. So I may just end up going with Monk, for the sheer benefit of the health restoratives, since my assassin tends to be the first one down if anyone goes, and I don't see terribly many Assassin skills even down the line that would be useful until it's too late anyway.
I'll keep kicking it around. Keep giving feedback though, it's very useful! :)

Cant really help u much further then, since i dont have an assassin, and the only mesmer skills i use are the echo ones, and fraigility or whatever thats spelled works good with virulence.

I would definitely go for a mesmer secondary, e.g., to teleport to your target, cripple and poison him, then Blackout and shred him to pieces with Illusionary Weaponry (Double Strikes FTW!) When I see an A/Mo in PvP I just whack it without a second thought but if it is an A/Me I'll be very cautious indeed.

You know, it's funny you say that because after I posted earlier about whittling down, I started thinking out strategies of Mesmer skills. I may actually go for Mesmer after all, especially since I plan on concentrating on speedy battles ending quickly and not so much drawn-out battles, as a Monk secondary would probably be better for.
Although I do still have that nagging voice at the back of my mind that says a Monk secondary would keep me alive longer in drawn-out battles. But then, you need to use strategy with any choice of profession.
I do appreciate all the feedback, again. :) This is really setting me thinking.
