I used Warrior as second. but i only used the stance´s so you had better chnace to block ect... but i deletet him. cuz i finished the game whit him and the i realized that there are no good places to farm whit them, or you are not so wantet in pvp...
but thats just my oppinion!

Most secondary professions are good for assassin.
You could go ranger, using wilderness survival to keep yourself alive (vital for assassins) and apply poison works on daggers too.
Monk is nice for self healing of course. Mending comes in handy. Condition removal (blind) is vital.
Elementalist is good for extra armor like armor of earth, or armor of mists.
Warriors have nice stances and shouts.
Mesmers can interrupt, hex and steal energy.
Ritualists could cast weapon spells on themselves.
Necros could use hexes like rigor mortis to be deadlier.
My assassin was A/R, then i changed him to A/E and now he is A/Mo. All are good, try them out I'd say ;-).
Edit: I found it easier to find a party as a A/Mo.It is still hard to get a party because of all those assassin noobs who give the rest a bad reputation, but this helps.

Deffinently depends on what ur going for, R u going for PvE or PvP character?
In Case of PvE I suggest Monk, Assasins has a tendensy to die, all the time -.- . AND if it is a Hench-quest u can just combine heal/running and u can run trough almoust everything. Its really easy, especially with healing breeze.
For PvP I have no idea, ur choise, but i would get monk or warrioir, Combine by choise.

I would go war/assassin cause that will speed your atts up and use hexes to maake ur opponent vulnerable!

Hmmm secondary for assassins depends on the build you want to run in my opinion.
I think the most important thing for a pve assassin to stay alive is good knowledge/setup of shadow arts line of skills.
The next most important thing is to judge the battle as it goes on and use your skills to survive and do most damage.
For instance if you have a warrior in the group - let them take aggro then enter combat. If you start taking damage or too much damage at least, then use a skill or simply run off... then return to the fight.
Having said that I usually run a full assassin skill bar.
