Ok my brother and i are going to make charaters together. He is going to make a stone and energy tanker and i am going to make a Kinetics and (insert type here). Basically i am asking for a power set with lots of group damage and not too many knockbacks. (one or two are fine)
Thanks for the advise ahead of time.

Don't like knockback, eh? That's too bad, cuz I think energy is an awesome secondary for a kinetics defender.
Well, there's always electricity, no knockback there, and it's good a decent AOE. Not as good as energy though.
If you run with a troller, they can lock them down with a group immobilize and then you won't have a problem with knockback.
Just in case you were thinking controller with kinetics, I think fire goes best with it - way cool damage there.

Try a gravity/kinetics controller. The grav set gives you two nasty knockbacks (wormhole and propel) and most of the rest of the set are holds and immobilizes with good DoT damage. You have to wait a few levels for the area attacks, but it's worth it.

I think he wanted no knockback, Xen
Electricity is always good. it has an AoE or two, plus the mini-pet at lvl 35. Ranged nova will be awesome after u get FS, then just a slight Cab and transference, and u will be full up. the enemies, however, will not :-)
theres also the same with sonic, psionic, darkness (good kinda controllerish powers there), and Radiation (meh). none of these sets really knockback.
Thanks to Death Fetish for kicka$$ siggy!!!

My lvl 33 Kinetic defender has dark. The -acc on all dark attacks really goes well with the buffs/debuffs of kinetics. First you make the really really weak, then you make them unable to hit you. Plus, you get a snipe at lvl 4, and tenebrious tentacles at lvl 16. My build has all the kinetic powers (other than repel and inertial reduction) 4 slotted at least, I have assault and tactics (one end red in each, and 3 tohit buffs in tactics), the fitness pool, recall friend, flight (which you don't need, but I wanted it), as well as dark blast (the first power), moonbeam (snipe at lvl 4), tenebrious tentacles (cone immo plus DoT, good power to have, specially with a tanker around), and Night Fall (cone effect, moderate DoT, another good mob killer.
I also have a stone/fire tanker, so if you have any questions about the stone armor or kinetics sets, please feel free to send me a PM, I'll be glad to help.

I have a ball with my Mind/Kin troller. He's not the most damaging, but he's pretty fun (levitate is good damage I guess, if you could stand knockup rather than knockback).

In most cases, I would rather have Knockup over Knockback. Knockback is very unpredictable, and can be a major annoyance for scrappers and tankers, especially stone tankers who don't move so fast. Knockup is just straight up and then down. That doesn't make melee characters move at all, and it gives them time to get in more attacks without gettin hit back.
Just my opinion, feel free to disregard....:)

Yeah, the up/down shouldn't be a problem for stone, but didn't know if he was picky. I personally love it (on levitate, or lift, or disembowel...oh, and air superiority).

Well, Electric can be a good choice since, with Kinetics' Transferrence, you can deny an enemy their endurance. Sonic also works well with its innate DR debuff allowing your team to do more damage to foes.
Just my two inf.
