How do you combat stalkers in PvP?

I'm just curious to hear how some people deal with stalkers in PvP, specifically Bloody Bay. First of all, how do you see them? I'm tired of that blasted assasin's strike! Give me some tips please.

RE: How do you combat stalkers in PvP?

Well I'm a Tank so I can't give squishies much in tips, but Tactics is a decent pool to go in. It helps with seeing through one of the Stalkers many cloaks, Yellows are good too. AoEs help out as well if you suspect a Stalker is right next to you looking to hit you with the big AS.

Warning, my stories and blog is not meant for those who are easily offended. If you are one of them, then avoid the link, you wussies.

RE: How do you combat stalkers in PvP?

Meh, I keep waiting for the chance to fight some guys in PvP with Brim. I had a couple stalkers try to get him once, but the blazing aura always brings them out of the hiding.

I really think Brim will kick butt in PvP, if any villians will ever come on out to RV.

My only main concern with Brim is against maybe Dominators. Slowing effects suck. But, I can just throw rocks at them I guess if I can't ever get close enough to pound them with my hammer.

RE: How do you combat stalkers in PvP?

All of the tanker sets other than Invuln have an AoE toggle taunt effect that also does some damage or side effect. These are great for bringing a stalker out of hiding. For scrappers, spines has Quills, which is also great for shutting down stalkers. Beyond that, it depends on your powerset. Hurricane is really good against them, cuz it brings em out of hiding, plus making it really hard for them to hit you. Any PBAoE toggle that has damage or a side effect on foes will likely be good in PvP against stalkers. Other than that, tactics and yellows really help make it possible to see them before they get close enough to AS. But they can also just sneak up behind you, which not even tactics or a yellow can help. So keep the camera zoomed out, so you can see behind yourself at all times!

Death Shroud should do the trick. I would suggest zooming back a little further than normal so that you can see behind yourself. If a Stalker is nearby, then Death Shroud with it's AoE effect should draw him out.

As a defender just slot several aux powers like hover or stealth heavy with defense.

Also I recommend TP as if you are diligent even their assasin strike is not enough to kill you and you can tp away in any direction and get more than far enough to exceed their range. Mind you the TP needs to start in the first couple seconds after the hit. Also i recommend that you travel exclusively by tp and to not travel in a straight line - weave the buildings and they will not get a bead on you.

If you build specifically for PvP then phase shift can save you as well as long as you make a hasty retreat.

Keep greens on hand also as they recharge time is long for a stalker and you can easily pump a few greens and reds after a assasin strike and take them out with Zapp or a combination of Lightening Bolt and other attacks.

For scrappers just slot high end defense where your powers allow and you should hold up fine. I have a scrapper that can stand toe to toe with a Brute for more than a minute with out any significant damage sticking. I do have the medicine group as a secondary for self heal as well. I can submit you the build if you like - just dont have it all in my head!

I think it is damage and movement debuffs. Before it was any kind of debuff. But hurricane will still work because the won't be able to get into melee range.

I see people just using location powers (Ice Slick, Caltrops, Rain of Fire, etc) and standing right on top a lot.

correct
chilling embrace doesnt stop them. icicles (ice tanks PBAoE) doesnt stop them either even though it causes damage.

the best way is get tactics or pop yellows.

RE: How do you combat stalkers in PvP?

Something I found interesting that you might make a note of. I was in bloody bay with my lvl 50 tank, badge hunting with a sg mate of mine, a lvl 50 energy blaster named valizan. Interested in seeing how Wolf and val would fare being auto exempted as these places do to higher lvl,we followed the voices and fight requests out to one of the battle hotspots where we fought a stalker. After being AS'd which he admitted useing 6 red inspirations to get me (I took that as a compliment btw) I went back out to meet him, this time in open water and it was at that time i noticed the spashes in the water he was making. Of course I couldnt see him, but I could see his movements in the water by his splashes. I made a mention of this to valizan over our voicechat and so for the next half hour our entertainment became harassing the poor stalker, by landing in the water then flying up in the air when he came close to us. That guy was ticked as apparently he had SJ as a travel power and couldnt reach us. Now i know that there are other stalkers who use flight and can AS you in the air, but my experiences on that day in bloody bay should be of some worth to you.

I'd hear this somewhere in the official forums. Stalkers complaining about the water giving away their position.

It makes sense though. In a video game sense, they are still solid objects even though invisible, so it is logical that when they enter the water, they should still splash and all that. Too get upset over something in the environment giving away your position is just silly.

Do you keep moving a lot? If you were twitchy it would make it much harder on stalkers. Even for melee, AS has a very short range. If you moved 10ft or so constantly, it would be much harder for stalkers to set up.

another great power in the dark armor set is cloak of fear. if you slot it for accuracy, you can literally freeze stalkers in place, giving oyu a great opportunity to smack em around. my cloak of fear is 3 slotted with acc's, and i constantly stop stalkers in their tracks. its great fun when they die and start freaking out and wondering why they froze in place

Yes. Like all PBAoE's they can sneak by it if they are lucky, but it is a good defense.

Someone mentioned Death Shroud as a possible deterrent. It is but the accuracy on that power sux bigtime. If you do have this and are trying to use it for PvP effectivness. Make the room for at least 2 Accuracy enhancements to make this actually work for what you are trying. It's an easy aura to slip by and still get the AS in.

As for the Stalkers that were whining about the water giving their position away, three things.

1) They suck! Come on, the water gives away your position. Don't try to sneak up on them there. Being a Stalker is like being a ninja, sometimes you have to wait for your prey to come to you. You shouldn't be able to AS everywhere, all the time.

2) They still suck! Get a jetpack. All the good Stalkers are wearing them this season! You can easily sneak up on that hard to get to hero that you really REALLY want to kill today!

RE: How do you combat stalkers in PvP?

Here is a tip for spotting and tracking players when they have Hide and Stealth activated... and do so without having any special powers or inspiration (I assume its just how the game renders objects) be warned though I do not know if this method will work for all ATs/video cards, i'm using a nVidia Geforce 6800GT with Forceware Drivers v91.31

This qualifies as a defense, knowledge is your best defense...

Many times I have entered PvP zones and been able to see Stalkers with full Hide and Stealth on merely by looking for them then been able to warn friendlies, let me explain...

The player with Stealth or Hide is Visible when first spotted, then they will fade from view, if you backup and then move forwards they again become visible before they fade, by moving forwards then backwards again and again you can track the hidden enemy, simply observe where they appear and disappear, then use that to track their movements, this can be done from out of attack range meaning they can't attack you and you can't attack them.

If you lose track of them remember where you spotted them last then postulate where they might be based on their previous location and direction of movement, then retry the move forwards and backwards method until you spot them again or not, at least you will know they are present if not exactly where.

Of course having said this now players have an idea so they will try to confuse you, expect this.

I hope this helps :D please let me know if it works for others and not just me.

Thundar no can count......
Thundar had 3 apples and ate one. Now no can find apple number 3. /e scratches head real monkey like

I re-read before I hit submit, really I do.......lol

"They suck as a Stalker" was supposed to be #1 all by itself, then I changed my mind while I was writing it! I've used bodies of water for cover a lot myself. Stalkers are the few AT's that you don't get a second chance to recover from an Alpha Strike.

I guess we can add in number 3 now.......

3) Get Flight as a movement power on your Stalker. Do you realize how many players think they are safe just because they are airborne!? Support toons regularly hover around handing out heals and buff clear of ground based hazzards. There are easy kills up there. Squishes generally are the players that use Flight most often.

I guess that this was really about how to beat them, not offer them tips, but I'm not a Stalker or a great PvP player and I know these things(Courtesy of Angus Black, Major Gunz, Flaming Brawler and The Lunar Lord - Liberty server). All of the other good Stalkers out there do too.

All of those PBAoE and droppable AoE powers are good for tripping stealth on a Stalker. As an example on my Fire/Kin Troller. I run Hot Feet, Repel and drop Bonfire anyplace I want to sit still for .5 seconds. The more of these you stack, the better.(This of course is not possible in Siren's Call. I get at best 2 of those 3. Possibly only one since my last respec.) Of course eating yellows and having someone on the team with Tactics running never hurts, but even with all of that stacked, they can still be hard to see. It's not like you get to see them fully visible, they still have a clouded view like looking at yourself when you have Stealth on.

A good Stalker will also know where to hide and come at you from an angle that you will not notice, even if you do have those perception features activated. The best detourent for the 1-2 shot kill is to get them out of Hide before they can execute the AS.

i'm pretty sure they can now. i read a good bit about this on the main boards over the weekend. they said something along the lines of 'stalkers have such a high AoE defense that damaging auras are easily bypassed by stalkers now.'

not an exact quote though.

RE: How do you combat stalkers in PvP?

i am only on city of villans but i have fought around 20 arena battles against stalkers. their weakness are there if you just pay attention to them. i will say an easy way for the 5 basic hero archetypes to spot annoying stalkers

Blasters. normally easy as pie to kill for stalkers, your best way to spot them should be tactics since it is a permanent accuracy enhancment if the stalkers are still sneaking by you. and if you have a feeling they are around at the moment stand still pop a yellow (accuarcy buff) bash the stalker with a quick attack before they can AS you without stealth they are just really weak scrappers

Controllers. if you have storm summoning hurricane gets the job done. if not since controllers normally group
go with a group and during fights after you use your powers hop around to avoid getting one shoted.

Scrappers. all have a power in each of their secondary powers that helps them spot stalkers note (in invunreibilty its just put on your toggles at all times)

Tankers. your bloody tanks i doubt one stalker is a threat but if they take half your health pop yellow so you see if that stalker had a friend with him bash the friend so he cant AS you and they will probably run away or try to placate the yellow will prevent the placate from making them invisible to you

Defenders. hurricane around you will keep them away from hurting you but i dont know if it stops their invisibilty but you can heal from hurricane so no worries there. if you dont have hurricane. pop yellows and zoom out with the camera during extended periods of standing still or fights

RE: How do you combat stalkers in PvP?

i dont really have a way of dealing with stalkers... i just basicly pick away at their health or if im my scrapper just destroy them before they have a chance to run away. now if im on my blaster i just do aoes every so often so i dont have to worry about stalkers stealth.
