a mage question

ok, so im new to the game, and i picked a mage because they looked extremly fun to play, and i had an elementalist in guild wars, so i thought why not...

anyway, looking at the 3 subcatagories of their skills, ive come to the conclusion that i need to ask for some advice

i will probably do mostly pve because i have no idea what pvp is in this game...and im assuming that pve is also end game?

anyway, i need some advice on what element or whatever to pick, wether its fire or ice, right now i have a rank 2 fireball, but nothing else, so i havent invested anything really into either one

thanks in advance

Fire is for tons of damage and frost is for slowing down the enemies and keeping them in place, which is perfect for PvP and Instances(Dungeons)

i rolled a frost mage which is going to be 2/0/49

RE: a mage question

20/49 means 20 in arcane and 49 in frost. those are talent specs. I posted a frost mage talent spec in the guides not too long ago though thye have revamped the mage talent tree since then and I need to update it.

Soloing and using a channeling AoE spell is the STUPIDEST idea I've ever heard.

Fire and Arcane are your best bet. Spec full fire until later levels, and you'll be re-spec'ing based on what raid you're doing end game.

Frostbolt, fireball, frost nova, step back and arcane missle, fireblast, arcane explosion. Kills most mobs. Adjust to your play style. Spec'ing one way, will not prevent you from killing as you level.

Umm ever heard of AoE grinding?

Basically gather loads of mobs quite lower than your level with relatively low HP, frost nova them, and then hit an AoE... bam easy exp.

Not at level 20. The significantly low enough enemies at that level would not amount to enough exp to warrant AoE grinding. In order to amass enough adds to get a decent amount of exp, you'd have to run through an ENTIRE area, holding agro enough to make them continue following. AoE grinding is more or less for money and loot, and at level 20, it is mostly pointless.

I think it appears at lvl 10. Each time you level you get a talent point. It's next to the character thingy & spellbook/abilities button in your bar.

RE: a mage question

ok, yet another question...is the talent system like guild wars, where you can change it around for certain builds, or is it set in stone like diable 2's tree was?
