Stay back home

I saw this screenshot and thought up a new profession/character type. That picture just perfectly represents the peacefulness of hobbit life. How about an option to let you play a hobbit and just do farming back home and let the heroic stuff to other players. A bit a la animal crossing. It would be so perfect. I am sure I can spent hours just fuzzing around my stead.

RE: Stay back home

Funny that you would mention that Phedre... some of the community on the main forums at Turbine's site expressed that exact sentiment, but with crafting (actually, farming is going to be an available crafting profession). Mithril_Miser, one of the developers for LotRO stated that the game is built for adventurers, so to stay at home and never do any adventuring would relegate you to perpetual level one.

However, if remaining at level one is not necessarily a problem for ya, then 'go for it', I say. The screen does portray a peaceful feel. That's one of the things that Turbine is doing exceptionally well, IMO. The environments are top notch.

Maybe with one character, staying at home would be fun. But I'm to much of a traveler to do it. I enjoy exploring in MMO's. And from all the screenies I've seen of LOTRO I'm dying to get into Middle Earth and take some very long walks!

lol I dont think many people would take the lazy side of the game, when you could be playing as a hero and feel important among the lazy people. To me, that's a better feeling.

Who are you calling lazy? Working the fields is hard work! You are just frolicing around with your friends!

Just kidding. Of course I will be adventuring. But as jeni said, it would be fun to have a second character that just hangs out back home. Maybe handy for the times I can't really fully concentrate on the game (due to RL disturbances), but I still want to be in Middle Earth.

OH yes, sometimes you need a nice relaxing gaming time where you don't have to pay attention 100% to the game, and you can just sit back and enjoy it a bit. In CoH I badge hunt, in GW I try to clear the map off more, I seem to find an activity that is laid back in all the games I play.

RE: Stay back home

Although the game is built around adventuring, there is sure to be a huge crafting population. There are entire kinships who have devoted their members strictly to crafting. Crafting will have to include gathering the necessary ingredients, which *will* be in dangerous parts of ME, but if you could find someone willing to trade or to get these ingredients in exchange for gold or silver, then you'll never have to travel and you can ply your trade all you want. Also the fact that each sword will bear the name of it's maker will be very attractive to a lot of smithy type people.

RE: Stay back home

to relax in guild wars... the scenery is so amazing in guild wars, it's relaxing just to look at it.

in CoH, I can't relax, theres really nothing pieceful, you can sit on the top of a scy scraper and still here the sounds of a teleporter int he distance.. I quit CoH for a bit to come back to guild wars. I still play though and will be active again soon :P

I do look forward to the shire though, and I hope they add a Green Dragon.
lol for a special event, they should have Bilbo's birthday for all the hobbits to visit, that would be fun :)

RE: Stay back home

I'm not the peaceful farmer type, I'd rather take on a Balrog than become a fat, lazy farmer lol. But I could stop by a pub for a drink once in a while. =)

Yeah, the pub is good and so is a pipe full of Ol'Tobby to go along with a pint. I hear thats why them lil' hobbits eat so much and never want to leave the Shire.
