Issue 8 Idea 

I have played the game for some time now an love it but like everyone I think that there are things that can be added to make the game better. For example I would love to see it rain and snow and for there to be actual night time not just a dusk. lol.

My main idea is that after a new update I would like to log on and see the city in chaos from a new Ritki invasion. You can preceed this even with something like Hero X returning and is in the hospital. News flashes of rumors. Increased activity at the Ritki crash site and so on. Then one day we log on see a short clip of the invasion and then are greeted with the chaos. Atlas Park and Galaxy City would be the only true safe havens. Steel Canyon's scyscrappers are like the ones in Boomtown, Skyway's roads have huge gaps in them, there are military warships in Independence Port, going into Terra Volta you start to take readiation damage from the damaged reactor and so on.

I think it would be a great change of pace. Just my thoughts...

I sent this to the deves a few months back but never got a reply. It mirrors somewhat what you were proposing.

The Accendrix Descent

Synopsis: The Accendrix Descent is a 14 day CoH/CoV event that culminates with a two day battle against the most devastating threat ever to hit the CoH/CoV universe, resulting in one section of the city being temporarily destroyed, at least for one issue.

Prologue: 3 days before the event starts (A Friday.) Players who have magic origin and psychic powersets begin to receive strange messages, basically a “He is coming, beware.” Message, from a group mind of some sort, a message filled with an overwhelming sense of dread.

Monday-Tuesday: A vessel larger then Paragon city arrives blotting out the sun. Heroes can approach it, but they can not break into the gigantic star ship. It is unlike anything ever seen before in the CoH/CoV universe. There is no communication from the ship at all. The ship releases an ominous humming sound.

Wed-Thurs: Drones are released from the ship. These are humanoid shaped robots, and all are Boss level. Now because this event happens all over the city at the same time, the drones for each section of the city will be that areas boss level. They are tough but not impossible to defeat. Again, no word from the ship of its intentions.

Fri-Sat: Larger, less humanoid, but tougher drones are released. These are all elite boss levels. Now it begins to get tough. Some heroes will fall, some will not. Simultaneously over Mercy Island drones are being dispatched at the same levels as in Paragon.

Sun.: Day of calm, but no communication from the vessel. Just an ominous humming sound that continues to permeate the whole city

Mon-Tues: The largest, toughest drones are released. All are AV level. Heroes MUST team to defeat them. Again, they Con to the level of the area. There will be Atlas Park level AV’s from the ship.

Wed: Day of calm, until 8PM that night, when the Being known as Accendrix makes his plans clear in an announcement, that the mayors office as well as Recluse himself was warned about in advance through psychic means. Also every magic/ psychic hero is aware in advance of others of what is coming. The sense of dread has returned fully. Accendrix means to steal the Earth’s natural resources, including its people, and leave the planet a smoldering barren rock in space, as he has done for countless centuries. He destroys because he likes too. He is a conqueror and nothing more. Then he sells the people off as slaves across the universe or, uses them to man his gargantuan engines of destruction.

Recluse contacts the mayor and Statesman and offers a temporary truce in order to save the world. They all agree. Villains now enter Paragon City for the first time unabated. They will stand toe to toe and side to side with heroes to battle the threat that seeks to destroy the world.

Thurs-Fri: Accendrix arrives stepping from his ship. He is perhaps three hundred feet tall, has a glowing axe, and powers on the level of the Hamidon, or greater. His arrival is in Steel Canyon, and the entire zone becomes destructible. Entire legions of heroes battle him, war walls fall and the battle spills over into other zones, Atlas, Independence Port, Brickstown. He is beaten in three hours, but immediately respawns. He spawns ten times over the next two days, until finally he is permanently defeated, and his ship explodes above the city. Steel Canyon is destroyed (For one issue)

What will this do? It will reinvigorate the City of Heroes. A year and a half ago, you had the best event in the cities history when you had the Halloween event. Giant monsters were unleashed that took scores of heroes to defeat. People were forced to team to survive, and the outcome was in doubt. Likewise, this will be no joke, and people will learn what it means to be a hero, and what the cost of such actions are. It will be intense and cause people to stay logged on for hours more at a time for the two-week period. The resultant destruction of Steel Canyon will be a reminder of the cost of survival. Then in the next issue it will be rebuilt good as new.

that would be so cool IMO i love the whole psychic/magic people getting a sort of "telepathic" warning...love it =D
truly genious idea i would probably be on the whole 2 weeks >_>...forgot something i was thinking while the psychics/and magics are fighting the sense of impending doom could cause them to randomly become terrified =D

This wouldn't be anything unusual for CoH, except for the scale of the damage. Boomtown was a very pleasant place during the Beta test, then they destroyed it as part of a playtest event. Since then, we've had a massive, city-wide battle in which the Council massacred the 5th Column and took over, big battles between the Outcasts and the Trolls, massive resistance when heroes first tried to return to the Rogue Isles, Vahzilok deciding to move to Atlas Park, the invasion of the Winter Lords, and many more surprises. Expect more in the future, but don't expect them to destroy every zone in a single event.

i dont think that every zone will be destroyed, it was just steel canyon (and just temporarily until the next issue).

the accendrix thing sounds awesome, would totally fit into the classic feel for older comics (IMO), but i do not think it is likely to happen as it seems like it would drive some devs insane trying to write the programming for it and someone would see the insane devs telling their deepest fears to a brick wall and eating spiders they found under the couch and crying on the shoulders of people that want to get the same brand of milk as them at the grocery store.

i would love to see another event l;ike this, and as it seems right now, we are getting double XP from July 21-23, and i plan on playing non-stop (maybe two TFs in two days?).

however, this thread does seem like an apt place to mention ideas for events. ill think of a really cool one sometime soon and post it.

Sol, I love the idea but have 1 change. In i8 make a new zone full of really cool stuff -insert idea here- that players of all lvl will enjoy. Then have the event happen in this zone. If there is a strong enough turnout and people protect the zone it is spared, if not it is destroyed. I just think that destroying Steel would be a bad idea because it is such a critical zone. It is the only zone with the Green and Yellow line, the first zone for DOs and a lot more. The outcry of destroying steel would be huge and really ruin what in other senses is a fantastic event.

actually sportgenius, Skyway City gets DOs at the same time as steel, plus it connects to Talos, and Kings Row connects to indy, so it might be able to workout sorta OK... but thinkin bout it, i think Sol meant that it becomes sorta like destroyed-looking, like boomtown or something.

I doubt they will be creating any events which requre as much work as the temporary destruction of even one zone, much less half the city. A new zone will probably happen eventually.

Meanwhile, here's an idea I had for an event they could create with much less work:



The Clockwork King's Siege

The Clockwork have driven all the cops out of Police Headquarters! The building is swarming with Clockwork. Heroes of all levels are needed to help drive the Clocks out so the police can move back in.

This one is basically just an indoor mission anyone can enter. You get in by clicking on the door of the Police Headquarters building in King's Row. As you enter, Clocks spawn inside just as an ordinary mission your level, but they would be salvaging every bit of metal in sight - ripping doors off lockers, cutting up the bars in the jail, hauling off steel desks, dismantling police cars, etc. If you're 3, you get sprockets and oscillators. A full team of 50's might have to deal with Babbage, Paladin or the Clockwork King himself. All levels would face unusual foes like Sprockets using police shotguns, a Tesla Prince with a S.W.A.T team shield for a pauldron, or a new type of Clockwork made out of obvious police car parts. It could be open to all who want to enter, as often as they wish, or it could be given out one time by our contacts. There could also be a badge for clearing the entire mission.

There would also be some cosmetic changes outside the mission. The helecopter would have to be parked somewhere else, police would be surrounding the building and other Clocks in King's Row moght have shotguns and other police equipment. Your first clue that something was different could even be a Gear running down the street with a police car siren!

What I would like to see in Issue 8 is the ability to filter and sort Enh at the stores. I waste too much time reading the infos of all the DO and SO enh to make sure I am getting the right one.
