So, I am at work and looking out of one of our second story windows when a question occurred to me.
Has anyone actually taken and used Group Fly?
Just wondering if the power is actually used.

Doesn't it come in handy for those with pets/henchmen? I've never tried it myself, but I think I've seen it mentioned. That, or for Taxibot types that like giving tours.

ive had it used on me by a teamate, it isnt really usefull. its stil just slow fly, but the only reason i coulod think of using it would be helping l;owbies travel with you. also had team teleport used, and that is just annoying because you cant stop it

the only time I've ever seen it used was at a Hami raid. Someone had it for ill trollers that hadn't taken fly. It was kinda handy for that but that's about it.

If you got a slot available it's awesome, actually I think I might take it myself.
Reason is simply, showing newbies around.
When I got into CoH, the very first day of my trial I met a really nice person who showed all around Paragon City, gave me a tour everywhere I could possibly get by TP'ing me around.
He was lvl 50, SK'd, he'd TP me somewhere all the time, and then we'd take a look around from the air with Group Fly, that was a really awesome first experience. :-)

Raids are in the hive, lvl 45 minimum. As far as GF goes, its great for raids cuz it'll help out non flyers alot. It is also good for tours, again for some of the badges that are easiest to get when flying. Beyond that, its not really that useful, and when a player uses it without telling the team he's doing it, it gets annoying. My scrapper is a speeder, when he was about to run into a fight to start things off, the defender decides to activate group fly. I was made so slow that when I fired my PBAoE, it hit nothing! I wasn't in there fast enough for it to be useful. Another power wasted! Suffice to say I told him not to ever do that again, at least without warning me.

I've seen quite a few people w/ group fly. And if you do have pets, it is really a nice thing to have. It also comes in hand in later missions when you are trying to just find the objectives in an out door mission and want to bring the team with you.
Yes it slow, but when it helps you avoid all the fighting you don't want to do, speed isn't as important.

So, when you activate the power, does the entire team start flying under the command of the person with the power, or does everyone have control of themselves?
And is it within a range of the person with the power, or does everyone on the team start flying where ever they are?

Everyone has control of his or her own but you have to stay in range of the "host", else you fall down.
It's sort of an AoE power I think.

From what I've expierenced it is like flight w/o any speed enh on it.

I picked up fly for my blaster a bit ago, and from what I've seen, fly, with no enhancements, isn't all as slow as everyone makes it out to be. True, it's never gonna be as fast as an enhanced skill, but still, it's quite usable unenhanced IMO.

I picked up fly for my blaster a bit ago, and from what I've seen, fly, with no enhancements, isn't all as slow as everyone makes it out to be. True, it's never gonna be as fast as an enhanced skill, but still, it's quite usable unenhanced IMO. |
It is just it is so much slower than the other travel powers. I've never minded fly (even when I didn't have it slotted). But I think the advantages to fly as a Travel power way out weigh the speed.

Thought I would chime in that Group Fly also helps those speeders and jumpers inside Archipelog(?) off of Peregrine. Because you have all the different floating islands that you have to get to, to kill the monsters on them and if you are a speeder you have to either wait for tp, get inertial reduction and hope you can make it or hope to that someone picked up group fly.

And also to all the gameampers here at gameamp whom without I would never have made it.

Super Speed boosts your non-airborne movement speed, including swimming.

I agree - my experience is from other members of the team having it, but for outdoor search and destroy (find the senators, portals, etc) it was excellent to get above the ground obstacles at any speed and be able to hunt for the mission's objectives. I have hover and TP but these don't support hunting for small targets on busy maps with lots of hi level and low level obstacles. And group fly was noticably faster than even my slotted hover.

Speaking from experience, Group Fly really isn't useful to anyone above 14 but below Hami raid levels. People who have their travel power already don't need Group Fly and usually don't want to be flown other than just having some fun or getting a hard to reach badge. I had it around level 22/24, and I respec'd out of it pretty quick.
On the villain side, it is cool for one reason: if you're a Robots MM, all your robots get jump jets on their feet and follow you flying.

AAARRRGGG! Now I have to at least consider it! Good thing I already burned my free respec from I7. My MM was so messed up!
Group Fly is very situational. I'll have to agree, more of an annoyance than a help, but if you like to run Hami Raids a lot, it's usually in high demand for the PA drop team. It would also be helpfull if you are involved in the Shard TFs. Jumping from island to island where one miss sends you back to the beginning is a royal pain. The distance is so far in that area as well, you can't always teleport your teammates to you.
It is easy enough to NOT use it when the situation dictates. That is unless your having a bit of fun with your SJ and SS friends that are continually telling you "I'm at the mission. What's taking you so long?".
When you first get it it does have the same flight speed of standard Fly, but you can also put flight speed enhancements in it to cap it out at normal flight speeds maximum. This power however is more often used as a "Group Hover" not a distance covering travel option. Because in normal situations you won't need speed, just functionality, it doesn't warrant any slotting. It is an enourmous end hog though.
