everything is relative.
a example:
a chair is relative. when i say i have a chair at home, we both get a pic of a chair in our mind, but thats not the same. so how u know what i mean then? but u do know what i mean because u know it, but even u think about something different. wierd....

He's wondering how it is that when you talk about a chair, we both know what a chair is. We might be thinking of two exactly different chairs (I'm thinking of a rocking chair, you're thinking of a folding chair), and yet, while we are thinking of two different chairs, we could still have a conversation about chairs in general.
For instance, I could say that "I kicked over my chair today." In your mind, you're seeing a picture of someone kicking over a regular dining room table chair, but what actually happened was that I tripped over my rocking chair and knocked it over.
So he's just speculating on how someone can say something and two people will see it completely different ways.

ive studied this in my degree at university, it completely true and a mind F**K when you look into it. how do you know a tree is a tree when no 2 trees are the same, and dont think cos they all have leaves, no 2 leaves are exactly the same, so how do you know a leaf is a leaf,cos its green? so are apples,grass and so on and so on

You recognize it my similarity to other things you have been told are trees. You find things that other's have told you are trees and you compare their common attributes. While doing this you recognize if it is like anything else you have been told as *some object* before.
Actually you know what? I don't know...

It all comes down to a language barrier IMO, as an example Monkeys and Apes are both called "Singe" in French but are completly different, but how do they know which one they are referring to when speaking of them ?
Bit off topic but still amusing, the only reason I know they are both called "singe" is because of a joke about the original "Planet of the Apes" movie in which one of the apes is called a monkey and he says "im not a Monkey im an Ape" imagine the french version ;)

Why do we call a table a table? or a lawn mower a lawn mower? WE JUST DO!
If ya think about it, nothing really has a name, everything is just called by what 1 person wanted to call it.
For instance, its impossible to travel through time, because time doesnt exist, time is just a word we associate with the passing of, well, time....

The reason we can both visualize a chair is because we both understand the concept of a chair, or a tree or a leaf. So every leaf can be different, however we all understand that a leaf breaks down to certain chemicals, which are made of certain other things, and so on down to quarks. This is at least the materialist view.
If you consider it from an idealist point of view, it would be kind of difficult, because an idealist believes only what is in our mind or better term would be consciousness is real. So how do we then agree on the same concept of a leaf? Well some idealists have not answered this question; some others believe that our consciousness is also part of 'God's'. So things like leaves, trees, and so on that we can all understand are in God’s consciousness which is connected to our own and things like our own ideas, love, pain (which is why love, pain, ideas, etc are hard to sometimes convey to another, because their concept of it is different) are in our own consciousness.
In my opinion, I prefer the pragmatic view on topics like reality. We all pretty much agree on what a tree is, so we should not waste our time debating it. If neither view has any benefit and doesn't not really affect anything, then it does not warrant any thought :)

A rose is still a rose, even if called by another name. As you pointed out, before we could talk trees still existed.
However, in regards to time
If time does not exist, then how can it pass? Is the past not time that existed, but is now gone? and the future is that which will exist but hasn't yet?

time is a definition for the events that happen. My point is every word we speak was invented, therefore time isnt really time.....its just the word we associate with the placement of events that happen.

IMO: Each word is a sound we associate with an object, which in turn is something that fills certain criteria to be associated with the sound.
Where did we come from, biology, where did anything come from? Well it's litrally a question that cannot be answered, someone must say here is where the world started, because something must have suddenly existed from nothingness if the world would have a beginning, which is of course impossible.
Anyway, did a mission halfway through typing this and forgot what I was gonna post.
