What's the deal with Positron?

I've never done posi before but I tried last night. The problem was we had one exemped lvl 16 on our team (dropped him to 11), but the enemies all spawned 15 anyway. What's up with that? The rest of us were lvl 10 or 11.

Also, let's say you lvl to 15 during the mission. Do you stop getting experience?

Lastly, Does anyone want to help me do Posi later today :) That was the only TF badge I missed with Jordan Yen.

Jorden,

I did Posi recently with My Emp Defender, and I outlvled it at 17 once you do, you stop gaining XP, and get inf and prestige.

What server are you on? Speed Trap on Victory needs to complete Positron as well. I'll join ya.

I have a toon on Triumph too, Rachis, but he's a bit low - lvl 7.

I'm gonna try to power lvl him tonight in the Hollows. But you would be done by then.

the baddies probably spawned 15s because someone had the difficulty set to invincible. make sure everyone has it set to heroic, and they will probably only spawn 11 or 12. IMO, posi is the hardest tf, and the only thing harder is the Eden trail, which is near impossible

Posi is a very tough TF. I would recommend doing it with the minium number of people. The more people the higher the level bad guys. If you do it with a 8 man team, you will be fighting level 15's no matter what the level of your teammates are (at least taht's what happened when I did it).

Be sure to check out our TF write up on it. The reason it takes so long is most people don't have a travel power when they do it, and it is a LOT of running around. Make sure you set aside a lot of time to do it, when you do run it.

this is what i've been gathering from doing different task forces thoughout my many levels and toons.

the TF villains will always spawn at +1 level that you will be exempted too.

i.e. posi is 11-15 so the villains are 16. first respec is 24-32 so the villains are 33.

this has happened on every TF i've been a part of. therefore i usually wait to do the TF until i'm within 2 levels of the max so i still get decent XP and i'm still effective.

no one else seems to agree with me on this idea, though.

everyone argues the point that it depends on the difficulty level the TF is set on and the team size, but i dont think that will lower the level of the villains you face. it does change the amount of villains/mobs you face during the TF though.

With the 8 man team it was hell, nothing but level 16's (most of us were 11 or 12). With the two man team, it was just like running one of our missions.

I've noticed with all TF it takes longer when you have an 8 man team. It does increase the amount of bad guys in there, but it also raises their level. Have you tried a TF with the minimum amount of people before?

jordan i'm pretty sure you need at least 4 people for posi. so i'd get another damage dealer if i were you.

how come you have failed it 3 times so far? people dropping or just a bad match of toons/people?

I'm going to try again with 3. If 4's the min, that's what I'll do. I've heard, and believe, that the smaller the team, the faster it will go.

So I'm going to level to 14 tonight (halfway through 13 now), invite a tank and controller/defender, and make sure that I have some DOs installed.

And if you want to run it with three, it isn't difficult to have someone just join to fill the space. As long as you let them know from the beginning that's what you need. And as long as they drop from the team b/f anyone enters the first mission, you should be good.

Honestly, Posi is one of the harder, if not hardest, TFs in CoH. I know that most people like to skip it until they're high enough for DOs, and then they go back for the badge. My recommendation falls in line with that of Jeni. Put together a good 3-man team, and take it down. Make sure the leader of the TF is set to Heroic. Otherwise, you'll be facing the same situation as before. Good luck. :)

Unless you have actually seen this in writing, then you might want to recheck. Last week or the week before, I disproved this statement when I ran the second respec trial. I had a same level team leader start the respec, and we walked into a room filled with purples. We run out the door, and I check the leader's difficulty. He was set to Unyielding. Since I was on Heroic, I volunteered to take the lead. We moved the star, restarted the trial, and walked in the door. The first mob was filled with oranges, reds, and 1 purple boss. By the by, there were no personnel changes between the first and second start.

LoL. So much for cleared up. So then the leaders setting does matter, but it's only the leader and not the rest of the team. That still answers my original question at least.

One thing, you were both the same level I assume?

Yessuh. The leader and I were both the same level.

By the by, I did a little experiment months back concerning the setting for all the players. The leader was set to Heroic, but 3 or 4 of the other team members were set to Rugged or Unyielding. When we entered the mission, it was filled with purples. We exited, and someone mentioned that we should all lower our settings. Everyone complied, we reset, and the group jumped back in the door. All of the baddies were still purple, and their levels hadn't changed.

So here's the funny thing. I tried it again last night at lvl 14 with all DOs. Players were me, a tank, and a healing controller, but the controller suddenly disappeared before the first mission and after mission three, the tank and I decided it couldn't be done.

However, based on TheJeni's advice, I decided to log out and back in instead of quit. By the time I came back, the tank had dropped (as expected) and I decided to try it solo. The mission we just went halfway through had been reset to one player and I had to take it slow (often one enemy at a time) and use elevators for escape, but I made it!

Tonight, I'll try the next mission. Who knows? In a week, I might have the whole thing done :P

How long do you estimate the Positron task force takes on average?

I don't always have a lot of time, which is why I have never done a task force yet. I would love to get one of my solo heroes and try it solo. Have 3 others start the task force with me then quit. That way I could complete it at my pace and when I have time.

So as long as I just log out the task force remains open? I assume that is if I am the leader.

Whether you're the leader or not, if you log out and haven't quit, then you can keep going. I originally said task forces sucked for casual players, but I changed my mind. If you can find the time for one (a non-busy day) or if you can pull off the solo task force (as I'm about to find out), then you should. They give important badges and generally have really cool stories and such.

I plan to do all of them this time since I skipped so many with Jordan before. Because of some help and luck in the last two days, I already have the badges for negotiator, lusca and paladin. And this time I didn't miss out on the training zone badge!

In a single sitting with a decent team, Posi should average somewhere between 3.5 and 4 hours. I've seen it take under 3, and I've seen it go over 5. It just depends on who's running the TF. Either way, I wish you both luck.

I have completed Posit twice (and never again!). Both times it took me just over 8 hours to get it done. The first time was on an 8 man team, the 2nd was w/ a 2 man team.

And I did some looking to find the official statement about TF and raising your difficulty...

here is where this is from:

Sort of. Y'see, they added that in to keep people from changing the level of the final boss (AV) by changing the group leader's notoriety. The rule doesn't apply to the rest of the baddies.

I think I mis read it too the first few times. After reading this thread and thinking about it, I think I know what it means.

The conclusion that I have come to is that the level/difficulty of the Arch Villain (for CoH) or the Hero (for CoV) at the end of the Task/Strike Force (provided there is one) is no longer adjusted based on the difficulty level of the it.

So, based on what Mal said earlier, your Task Force will adjust levels based whether the leader has it set to Heroic, Invincible, or somewhere in between, but the Villian at the end will remain the same difficulty regardless.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that's what they meant by that.
