I am 100% behind anything that will reduce the lag and improve the framerate of the game. It won't log you out when you are on the mission map and it won't log you out on a task force, so there is no reason for people to stay logged in and not be active participants. There are probably some folks out there who wont like it for a number of reasons, but I think that Cryptic realizes that in this case the needs of the few are outweighed by the needs of the many and most players play one character at a time and actively participate in the playing of that character.

I like it, even if you get logged out for being AFK for say dinner, so what? it takes only a minute to log back in, and if you're on a team that tolerates you being AFK for that long, then they are in your friends list and you can rejoin! This will stop or at least hinder powerleved characters being PL'd while they sleep and other tactics (that's a good thing) And if you're playing 2 characters at once, so you have to lean over to PC2 and ress "W" every 15mins or so, oooh, big deal! :D
I guess I'm back then... :)

I am majorly in favor of it for the reasons listed above - and maybe ones listed after my post too ;)
I hate lag! And I get a decent amount of it. Despite the fact that my laptop is only about 5 months old, I did not get the top of the line and the graphics card is ok for playing, but not the best. Heck, my husband had the top of the line laptop for this game when it came out (advertised for CoH play), but his graphics card is no longer the best for it any more.
And then the power levellers... It really annoys me that they are one of the causes of lag. Power levelling is so icky anyhow, but then to cause havoc with everyone else in the game...it's despicable!
Jeni, did you put this post in the rant and rave forum, or am I out of line here? Hehe.

I think it's great, there is no reason for a person to log his character in and then just leave him standing in the middle of Atlas Park to be "Oooo"ed and "Aaaahhh"ed by the masses. I'm proud of my heroes and the way they look, but, come on folks, be real, my ego is not so low that I have to be seen and admired for hours on end.
I understand that the upper levels are an ego boost, and, yes when I start reaching those levels, I will start singing like a sex starved Bluebird in the spring, but, I'm not going to stand around waiting for people to give comments...give them to me as I run by! LOL!

nope didn't put it in the rant and rave forum... i was just wondering what our members thought of it after reading pages and pages of rants about it on the offical forum.... i myself and all for the auto log out, i'm really big on less lag and that is what this is for... it seems to me that i may actually be able to use the Talos tram w/o it taking 5 min to get to it and select a destination...
i just wanted to hear the imput of others...

That is exactly where I have the worst lag too. In Talos at the tram. Some other trams and hospitals can be laggy too, but Talos is the worst.

The only downside I can see to the auto-logout feature which may come back to haunt them is this. People may be able to get around the auto-logout feature by setting up an effect to auto so that it keeps cycling as soon as its recharged. This would in all likelihood create more lag then we are currently experiencing in the game.
Just a thought and I am curious as to how they will deal with this if it is the case.

Don't think that works, I stayed logged in the other night while eating, knowing that auto-log was in effect, i think i left hasten on auto (as i usually do) and I still got logged out. I believe it is KB inactivity that triggers it
I guess I'm back then... :)

You could be right, though there are devices like Thumpers that will get you around that too if you are really that key on staying in hehe.

actually thumpers are going to be the only way they can stay logged in... the auto-log out is based on keystrokes, so any auto toggle power or what not won't do it.... and holding in the key (like by a weight of some sort) won't work either, it has to be pressed an released... and i'm sure some will get around it, but at least it takes care of SOME of the problem

Thats cool to know. I doubt the Thumper is as known among the CoH crowd as it was in EQ and DAoC where it was used to maximize trade skills. I think I still have one around from the DAoC days, but its collecting dust and hasn't been used since. Having to actually press a key vs. just having a power auto-cycle would definitely help solve the problem.

actually on the offical boards a few people have mentioned that simpsons episode where Homer is on disability for being to fat, and that little birdy he used to work from home to hit the Y.... but people always find a way around things, at least it will cut it down some
