Everything you need to know about using images on this site
This should give all users the answers to the most common questions about images and this site in one central location, if anyone feels there is more to add or it could be clearer please add your thoughts.
Screenshots
1) First of all you need to know how to take them:
- Simply press 'Print Screen' which will include all the game panels
- Hold down 'Shift' and 'Print Screen' to create a screen without the panels (perfect for those scenic shots)
2) Where are they stored?
Screens are saved in a 'Screens' folder inside the main 'Guild Wars' program folder. The address is usually :
C:Program Files\Guild Wars\Screens
The easiest way to locate a screen is to:
- Double Click 'My Computer'
- Double Click 'Local Disk (C:)'
- Double Click 'Program Files'
- Double Click the 'Guild Wars' folder
- Double Click 'Screens'
- From the 'View' drop-down menu select 'Thumbnails' to see the screens as small images
3) What format do they need to be?
To submit screenshots on to the site the first thing you need to do is convert them from their native Bitmap format into JPEG files.
The easiest way to convert a screen from .bmp to .jpg using Microsoft Paint
Microsoft Paint is a small easy to use image editing program that comes free with windows, you can usually locate it under Accessories:- Start >
- Programs >
- Accessories >
- Paint
After launching 'Paint' open the screenshot you wish to submit, to save it as a JPEG simply use the 'Save As' option from the 'File' menu. Next to 'Save as type' make sure that JPEG is selected, save the image somewhere easy for you to find.
Submitting a screen to the site
Use the GW Screenshots link in the left hand navigation from any page on the site to get to the screenshots section.
After using the Submit Screenshot button you will be taken to a page where you can locate the image on your computer, add a caption and upload the screen on to the site ready for approval by site staff. Make sure you select the right gallery and pay attention to the submission guidelines for screenshots.
Your Image Gallery
Members of gameamp get an image gallery included in their profile, many members don't know its there or how to use it. It is the perfect place to host your image files that you would like to use on the site, for example your signature or images you might want to include in a forum post.
You can access your image gallery and begin storing images by selecting the 'Image Gallery' link within your profile. Once images are stored they will appear under 'Gallery Administration' as thumbnails, to see the full view of any image just click on it's thumbnail.
How to store images
- Select 'Image Gallery' from your profile
- Use the 'Add Image' link
- Add a title for your image
- Decide if you want it hidden from public view (this option is presently disabled)
- Use the 'Choose' button to browse for the image on your computer
- Click the 'Add Image' button to upload it on to the site - It should now be visible as a thumbnail
Using stored images
You can now start using images from your Image Gallery in forum posts or use the Image Gallery to store your signature which you can attach to all posts to exprerss your individuality. The first thing you will need to know is how to get the image address.
Getting the image address
From your Image Gallery click on the thumbnail of the image you wish to use, this will open a new window and display the image at full size. Right click on the image, different options will be displayed depending on your browser and you will be able to copy the image location (URL - Address) into a post or use it in your signature.
Using an image in a forum post
When you click on the 'Reply to topic' button you will be taken to the screen for submitting your reply, as well as using text you can add an image (once you have the image address). Use the image button (IMG) to add an image, this will open a new window that will prompt you for the image address
When you click the IMG button a new small window will open where you can paste the previously copied image address, the first part of the address (http://) appears in the field and is highlighted, this should be left highlighted, right click on that highlighted text and paste in the image address you previously copied. The prompt for adding the image address looks different on different browsers, in the image below there are examples from Firefox (top), Internet Explorer (middle) and Opera (bottom), they may look slightly different but they all do exactly the same thing.
Once you have pasted in the image address just hit 'OK' your image will now be ready to be displayed in the forum post. You can use the 'Preview' option in the Topic Submission form to see if the process has worked before you commit yourself to submitting the post by pressing 'Add Reply'.
Using a stored image as your signature
Instead of using an external host for hosting your signature you can use your Image gallery, the process is very similer to adding an image to a topic reply but is done from the 'Account Information' section of your profile.
From your Profile select 'Account Information', scroll down to the bottom of the page to find an area called 'Signature' it is here that you can add an image and text to be displayed under any forum posts you make on site.
Follow the same process for getting the image address and for adding an image into a forum post using the IMG button.
Remember there are rules on signature size.
General guidelines on images
Any images on this site must be appropriate viewing for anyone, please kindly refrain from posting any inappropriate images - whether pornographic or too bloodthirsty, we do not have an age restriction and all image content must be suitable for all ages.

I did what you said and it worked perfectly, but my picture is too big for my liking, anyone know how to fix that? I removed it because it was too large for the maximum sig size and i cant crop it smaller because if i did that Id cut out anything important in the pic. I keep trying to resize it but im not good with that stuff. someone help me out?

You know, with the love I have for this Site (next to my own of course) I really should probably buy a copy of the game. I do have the Art Book from it though! I got it from DJ Jester, I did! Pretty pictures. They would look good with more Legos though. :sigh:
See Julia! I did a good thing, I did! I posted without using any colors!
See! It's all nice and plain, and the letters are only whi...
Uh...nevermind... :sigh:
I need some Legos.

There is no need to panic. Sapir is mostly harmless. Just everyone remain calm while we get him back to the CoV side of the world.
*looks at Bishop* Someone must have been slacking on their Sapir watch...

May I interest you in an Invisible Electric Fence?
You put the collar around Sapir's neck, and if he crosses the line, he gets 1000 volts to his jugular vein.
Or you can adjust the voltage to however you may feel is "enough".

We've tried that one. It just doesn't seem to do the trick. I would hate to set the voltage to high, as he is a wonderful staffer (as long as he has his legos *grin*), and the community tends to frown upon us frying up one of the good ones.

I have something to add to the guide.
If you hold shift and Ctrl then press H it brings you to a scenic view. Press the 3 buttons again to return to normal view.
H has to be last or it brings up your hero menu.
If your unsure how it works try it in town before going out in battle area.
Made for another forum I go on, Just felt the need to do something with this sig.
