You've played two casting/ranged attack professions so I would go for something melee. Assassins seem to have trouble with groups and in my opinions aren't very PvE-aligned. So I would say try warrior. Ranger is also a good one to try. Make a couple characters with different professions and see which one you like best. Then you can keep that one and delete the other(s).

Well, I would say Ranger... but then again of course I would I fricken love my Ranger!!!!
You should try all of the different proffessions in PvP and then make a decision on what to make.
ill get around to making a new sig later

You should be a Monk. Everyone should have a monk before they have a Warrior or Assassin (and ideally before they have an Ele, Mesmer, Ranger, Ritualist, or Necromancer) so they can learn how monks have to handle things. This, in turn, allows them to learn how to LET monks handle things when they aren't playing as a monk, which makes the monks happy, which makes them stay in groups, which makes the group survive better, which makes the entire game MUCH better for the rest of us.
So, yeah...

I like the idea of monk too. I have one myself and it can be loads of fun. You can farm, support, and of course get groups easily and be selective. And they have pretty cool armors, male and female. Hehe :)

My monk was my third character and I'm a fine monk. It's one my of greatest passions in the game! Personally I believe I'm best as a monk, or possible elemenalist (my second character). So what you said isn't always true. It takes a certain kind of person to be a monk, yes, but if you like it you can be good.

I got 2 monks on 1 account, so yeah they rock :P
You will never have the 'gotto find a group' problem anymore.
The more you play the better you will be able to handle situations with your monk.
Everyone needs monks, they got cool looking armor!

If you like Mesmer you will love both the ranger for interupts and Necro for degen.
Necro and rangers are my favourite professions and they are both very useful.
Necros are also essential for many team types, B/P teams need order and MM. 5 man oro needs MM and SS. Balanced teams like SS or MM or degen. Blood Spike teams consist of Necros.

go necro or monk...eh, i just said necro cuz it's my personal fav profession but if you prefer monk then by all means go ahead and make a monk.
the game has more than enough melee types...warrior or assassin should be your last choices.

Yea i would say monk. Like someone said before, people can always use a monk on their team. You can actually make some money and complete a mission at the same time. Recently when i was at the Thunderhead Keep mission, there was such a shortage of monks that some people were actually offering to pay monks just to come with their party. If you get nightfall, you should make a Monk/Paragon just because its funny how it spells Mop. ^_^.
