Too much talking

Ok, I think there's been waaaaaay too much talking on mmo lately. Don't get me wrong, I love the station and I think talking between songs really adds personality and depth to it, but it's gotten rediculous lately. What comes to mind is the Saturday Night Screw-up (still going on as of this moment). Now I didn't start listening till the middle of the broadcast so it might be this way on purpose (like more of a talk show sort of thing), but they haven't played a song for at least 20 minutes as of right now, which is far far too long. I listen in to MMO to hear music and hear some funny /interesting comments from the DJ(s) EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE, not listen to them babble for 20 minutes straight. In short, cut the chatter, and play the music.

Re: Too much talking

While i understand your concern, the Saturday Night Free for All is the one 4 hour block each week that is less geared towards music. It's always been that way, and honestly I really look forward to it every Saturday. Sometimes it may end up being a heap of random nothingness, but more often than not it results in a steaming pile of hilarity that you don't get any other time on MMO Radio.

Re: Too much talking

Pffft...the chatter last night was great. I particularly liked it when they became more 'inane' the more there was complaint about the 'inane' chatter.

Gotta have somethin' for everyone...can't please everyone.

'Nuff said ::flees the M@rvel lawyers::

Re: Too much talking

*grin* yknow what I find amusing.. is two of my favorite radio DJ's outta NYC (started in Boston but they are New Yorkers) started on WNEW (they've been kicked off air due to some umm.. hehe.. stuff..).. anyways.. WNEW used to be music.. O & A came.. did their thing.. which was much like the Sat. afternoon/night lineup.

Had so many callers call in and get mad that they werent playing music.

What is my point? Before the Sex for Sam stunt that fateful year when they got kicked off air.. They became the most popular show in NYC, on every weekday from bout 2-8 pm, and were being syndicated throughout the Infinity Broadcasting family of radio stations.

Yes we have DJ's that play music.. but some also really love listening to the Sat. talk thing where the DJ's are just screwin around and having loads of fun.. making many of us laugh in the process. =)

As Sas stated.. RW and Buddha's show have always been this way.. and Hib as well I am sure. I quite enjoyed Miss Chaosity (ie. Mrs. Hib) interjecting and adding to the flavor of the show.

To those DJ's who have said type of format as a standard for their show, major props. To those DJ's who play music, again you have my props.

Moral of the story.. to each their own.. MMO Radio strives to have a bit of something for everyone.

Re: Too much talking

Over the past 5-ish months I have been listening to MMO radio, (Nee Paragon Radio) there seems to be at least one person every few weeks/months that just wants to hear more music.

This station has always been very free fourm for each of the DJ's. Everyone is welcome to their opinions. Everyone is also welcome to turn off the station for a few hours and listen to their own playlists or the regular radio. MMO radio has a little bit of everything for a little bit of everyone.

Re: Too much talking

Thanks for all the comments, even the first one. I don't think it was meant as a flame but just an opinion expressed which is more than welcome :)

Yeah Buddha and I do tend to get off on a ramble and so do Hib and Mrs Hib but we're having fun and the intent is to share it with the listeners :)

Now if everyshow on the station was rambling lunacy.. I'm thinking we would all need to be committed inside a month so we do try to keep it to a few of the shows :) But NerdyChick said it best, we try to provide something different for everyone to enjoy.

I hope that if our show isn't exactly to your liking, that you will check out a few of the other shows :) If all our shows sounded the same, that would be pretty boring lol so tune in and see what you like and come here to share your opinions!

Thanks again everyone

Re: Too much talking

I love the chatter. Without it I might as well just be listening to DJ playlist or my own stuff.

Besides, I have never had nearly as much fun from any song as I do when the DJs go off rambling. :)

More inane rambling! :)

Re: Too much talking

actually that main times i listen to MMO Radio lately is during the more talk/hilarity. only because usually when i listen i've had a bad day. So hearing the crazyness helps my day get better.

Re: Too much talking

more often than not i listen to MMO specifically to listen to the talk, being a country fan i tend to not really get as into the music as others, though i do like a lot of the songs out there, its just not what i tune in to listen to, so i say to each their own and see ya in game.

Re: Too much talking

The best thing is, everyone has their own style... and that is why some people prefer listening to certain DJ's.

Myself, I think that there is a variety which will target certain listeners more then others, and thats whats so nice about this station. There is a little bit of everything to attract everyone.

Way to go guys....

Truly a great station, props to everyone!

Re: Too much talking

honestly, being new, I feel there are times that more music would be nice

but...the stream itself is good and the talk is entertaining too (you guys NEED to up the quality though please...like 96kbps or something at least?), so I say if it ain't broke don't fix it.

Plus, if it is too much talk at the time, I can always leave and come back. It's a radio station to listen to by choice and noone is breaking anyone's back to listen anyway.

Re: Too much talking

Woot! I love the replies =)

Darkraptor, the reason we don't raise the frequency higher than 56kb/s is that for most people, anything more would seriously impact the amount of bandwith they have to play games with (i.e. REALLY hard to play and listen at the same time). I'd love to see the sound quality increase, but until there is a way to do so without hurting anyone's gaming (cause thats the reason we're here =D) I don't see it happening.

Re: Too much talking

I see absolutly nothing wrong with the quality of the sounds comming from MMOradio. Maybe it is just me though.

Re: Too much talking

I don't have a problem with the sound quality either NC.

On the thread topic, I find this funny. A friend of ours is a dj locally and is finally back on the FM station (verses being only on the AM station) though in the afternoon than in the morning. (Now when do I have time to listen to him cause I seem to always be listening to MMO? When I'm in the car :>) On his last morning on his morning show, several called up and said just about exactly what started this thread and saying that they were glad he was going away and would be hopefully replaced with a dj that would play more music than run his mouth. The laugh however was on them when they tuned in the next day: He was replaced by a sindicated show that only has music about every 30-40 minutes.....if the local station can get it in with the station id and commericals......and the music also routinely gets cut off mid-song. Now he is back on the afternoon....His first show there was a flood of calls saying how happy they were that he was back even if we wished it was in the morning slot. It wasn't four days before someone called with this complaint again. I told him that it is the same people who don't understand why we love his shows......and that he can't please everyone......I also told him (on air) that those who complain should be careful cause look what they got in the morning show now. lol

However having said that, I tune in mostly for the djs not the music.....but the music is like icing on the cake or whip cream/mariange topping on the pie :)

Re: Too much talking

there is a way to use your network card so tha it uses 0-1% of your CPU instead of 5-20% like most PCs. It's called load balancing, and it involves getting a 30-40$ network card instead of the 20$ ones, the kind that have a processor in them so that you don't use your processor to handle your network.

Apparently I learned you can force it to occur on network cards that don't have their own processors too, but it's not as efficient. (I'll go look up later on how to enable it...guess it's a registry thing)

Re: Too much talking

Well, Radiowave was right, I wasn't trying to flame and I tried not to make it sound like I was, so thanks to everyone for shooting me down in a nice way :) . My opinion still stands, but everyone seems to enjoy the talking and since it's pretty rare to have a lot of it I'll just deal with the amount there is.
