its been a while but if you hit F7 or F8 while your booting up you will get a prompt that ask how you want to boot-up. YOu should be able to select c-prompt. I may be wrong so either try it out or wait for someone else to post

Yup, if it's XP, F8 right before windows starts will get you a menu. From there you can pick the one that says Command Prompt. It's not actually DOS, but it the closest thing to DOS you can get to in windows XP.
Click here and scroll down to the 2000/XP section at the bottom. That's what it will look like, and you'll want the one that says Safe mode with Command Prompt.

you can use the Windows install disk as a boot disk. If you go through the steps like you were going to install Windows you also get an option to "repair" windows. If you select that you will get a command prompt. You will need your Administrator password and it will ask you to login to windows. If im not mistaken that is as close as you can get to DOS in Windows NT systems because they removed DOS.
You could also go to bootdisk.com and see if they have a disk image that would work for you.
That is all the help i can offer since i dont know what you are trying to do.

safe mode with command prompt is actually not what im looking for, i came as far as pressing f8 myself, but i dont want to start windows before going to command prompt, even not safemode.
I found a solution though. In your link i saw there IS a command prompt only option in windows 98, and i still have windows 98, so if i select windows 98 as my primary OS i will be able to start command prompt only.
Thx for all the help, +cred to you all.

Windows 2000 and up emulate's DOS, so it isn't true DOS. But if you press F8 on bootup before windows itself starts to boot up then it will take you to a list of options, one being command prompt(aka dos). Hope this helps.
