RE: Power lvling

Subsequent releases to the game have effectively killed power leveling as it was.

There are other, lesser variations of it now.

If a player already has a lot of toons they may opt to run with friends that have hight level toons from the under 10's to mid 20's. You can still get pretty insane ammounts of exp because the higher leveled mobs and advanced characters allow you to run on invincible and spawn more Bosses and Leuts than you dare to in the early levels.

Still frowned upon by the serious gamers, but still utilized by altoholics everywhere!

RE: Power lvling

i have power leveled, and i still do it sometimes. i like to rotate with people, like meyself and a tank will farm a mission, while some bridged lowbies sit and wait. when we are done, the lowbies wil go get there 50s, and we will log our lowbie, and they farm. technically i guess i am earning the levels by rotating, but if im not it doesnt bug me. once i hit 20 on a character i stop, just because i cant stand teaming with people that dont know how to use thier charachter, so i skip the learning levels for them

RE: Power lvling

yesterday it was 'tro, brim and I running together forming a big team (Big the Tank, Mr. H, and Electroshock-Therapy with lvls 32,33 and 16 respectively) and a 36 scrapper asked for some help. we ended up forming a 8man team with a few people higher than us. totally rocked it and got great XP, the second mission we did, i tried it without an SK up to 36 and saw all purple nurples running around. we had two healers so i figured i'd be set and healthy. i was able to hold all the aggro and stay alive the entire time and so was mostly everyone else, except when a nemesis tank thingy blew up and killed squishies. well the moral of my story is i gained 7 bubs in abour an hour of PLing, but was contributing so it was tons of fun.

...wow i just realized how lame this story was.

Jeez, what a lame story. Haha! Actually, I don't think that quite fits the definition. PL-ing is experience without risk. You were the main tank so to say you incurred no risk is just plain not true. It may have FELT like PL-ing, but in truth was not.

RE: Power lvling

I run with my SG mostly. It's usually 2-4 of us on a team and we normally run on Unyelding or Invincible. We get good size mobs in missions and we can handle them fairly easy. That is about the right pace for us. We get good XP and we can still see a lot of the game content along the way. Most of our toons are all in the same range so we have Alts we can sub in to fit the teams need.

I don't Power Level and I have no need to. I have turned down several invites to be a bridge or just to stand in a mission and gain XP. I would much rather be involved in the fighting than just waisting my time.

If thats the way you want to play the game and spend your money then go ahead.

I have a goal of playing every Archetype to Level 50 and trying every Power Set in each Archtype. Needless to say I have a long way to go,but it's how I want to spend my money and time.

RE: Power lvling

I think the biggest change to power leveling is that you no longer have one character herding up an entire map and killing them all by themselves while the others watch.

Even when we have a character a bit out of range to be uber effective, we just instruct them to assist through someone that will draw more aggro.

So, in effect, the new version of PL'ing has everyone contributing what they can. And in that case, we really can't call it power leveling any longer, it's just sidekicking up and using proper strategy to get the missions completed with the resources available.

To be honest, I've had some of my lowbies in the mish where I was barely able to get exp. After a team shake up, I'm within 2 levels of the highest toon on the team and ripping it up. I got better exp in the latter position than I did when I was in the old "Sweet spot".(Still don't understand why it seemed to work that way)

There is an issue with a player that doesn't play their toons all the way through certain levels. Really, from level 12 to 22 all you are doing is setting up movement and pool power choices(more common with the long term experienced players). So there is little to learn, you just have to grind through that yucky no cool power gathering set of levels.

But at some point, you really need to start figuring out your attack routine, power limitations and the like. I've been purposefully avoiding any type of PL'ing situation on the Tank and Scrapper that I am running up on Liberty. I'm really weak in the direct melee zone and want every chance to learn how to do my job. Although If I were to log onto anyone's account and step behind a Blaster, I already know the routine.(Lord help me if they have a Blapper rolled up!)

RE: Power lvling

Power leveling can be good or bad...if you have a level 50 already that hasn't been PLed(at least not most of the way) then you can PL all you want because you already know the game. But, if it's your first char I think you shouldn't be PLed so you can learn how the gangs work and how to use powers correctly..otherwise you being a Kheldian will just get people ticked at you when you have no idea how to play correctly.

RE: Power lvling

As long as you know how to play the game, its all gravy baby.

what i cannot stand- level 50s without a clue to what theyre doing.

also bad- n00bs who buy an account on eBay and actually tried to lord it over me (i was on a new toon) that he was 50 and i was not. grrr...

my question would be- why pay to not play? My answer- the yelow letters and sounds when you ding an it says "Level Up!", and everyone treats you special if only for that one little moment... ok, now its gone and my world is dark and cold... fortunately im PLing so it should happen again in thirty minutes or so. Really wish i knew how to play this game, seems like it could be fun... oh well. oo, yellow and sounds again!

love, sunshine

RE: Power lvling

Some do, Some don't. Guess sometimes the price isn't immediately obvious. If you have a level 50 who can't buy an awaken without going to Peregrine. The price starts to show. Plus, unless you are doing the same toon, over and over, the experience will be very different, especially the Hollows and Perez.

Captain Icy-Hot and PLing

See, I think we need to DEFINE what PLing is exactly. Me and Mrs. H run our missions on invincibility, and have been doing succesfully since about lvl 30. Some start sooner, some don't.

We ALWAYS get great xp. We ALWAYS run huge teams. We hardly ever die. This is not PLing, this is kicking butt.

We needed little ectroshock, even though he was a lowly 14... or 16... 18... or whatever it was :-P , because he could HEAL and that made up an intregal part of our team. As a result, he got rewarded nicely with excellent XP.

See, I guess my point it, you only get PLed if you don't work for it and get loads of XP.

PLing is this: Massive XP for no work.

I don't think it really happens anymore. I remember my first blaster, Captain Icy-Hot was screwing around in Bricks at lvl 31, so excited about getting a nuke in about 6 bars, and some fire tank invited him. This fire tank herded the entire city of Brickstown behind some dang fence and burned them too the ground. BAM - I had my nuke.

I felt so.. so.. dirty. So polluted.. Almost like Charlie Sheen feels after telling the cheap call girl to go home... Well, maybe not that bad.

But - it was great to get the nuke, but it wasn't fun earning the xp. In fact, after watchinc that tank kill those guys so fast, I wondered why everyone said that blasters were the damage dealers.

I took a fire tank from about 22 to 50 with the burn fear factor in place. I was glad it was put there, because it was just plain cheap. I'm glad for the nerfs that have elimated PLing. You may not be, but I am.

RE: Power lvling

blasters are damage dealers. but fire tanks are awesome ones. the power fiery embrace, in the fire primary set, is basically a super extended build up. AND you get build up in the secondary. AND 2 AoE's in the secondary, plus burn and balzing aura. fire tanks are huge damage dealers, an can also take that damage. i personally am making one now, lvl 14, its gonna be my next 50
